Aloha Veterinary Center - Sick kitten on his way to a better life

Aloha Veterinary Center

I've only had two visits to Aloha Veterinary Center, but I must say that I've been very impressed…read morewith Dr Matsumoto and Dr. Beth. Both doctors patiently listened to any questions/concerns I had. Everyone, from front desk staff to vet techs are friendly and welcoming. I also appreciate the fact that they are open 6 days a week (8 am to 6 pm) with emergency services on Saturday from 12-4, which shows that Aloha Veterinary Center is making an effort to fulfill veterinary care in the community.

I called because my dog was expelling blood and vomiting. They told me to come in at 1PM that day…read more Because it was an emergency I would have to pay $225 up front which I did. Then I waited a half hour before a vet tech. came and said she was taking the dog to have a "fecal Smear'". I told her I would like to speak with the veterinarian. She brought my dog back.. Ask if they could get a blood test to maybe rule out pancreatic problem. By now it was nearing 2 PM. I told her I did not think it was pancreatic. My dog showed no symptoms of pain. and , of course, by this time I am beginning to think they just want to run up my bill. I never got to see the vet. and I ended up paying $78 for a fecal smear WOW! Her temp was 101.3 per the tech This experience is so different from the experience I had with Dr Matsumoto. Last October my other dog had an intestinal package. He took an X-ray discussed it with me and with in the hour he operated. He was wonderful! We discussed options and my dog is alive because of him.

I first started seeing Dr. Bill, who I really liked a lot, and more recently I've been working with Dr. Amelia, who has been absolutely fantastic. I have two senior kitties with hyperthyroidism, and she has been incredibly attentive and compassionate with their care. If lab results don't come back the same day, she will personally call me in the evening after work to make sure I get the results. That level of dedication means a lot. Any time I've had questions and reached out by email, even after hours, she has responded herself. She is always kind, patient, and genuinely caring, not just toward me, but toward my pets as well. The staff is just as wonderful. Shelly and Pua, who I've interacted with the most, have been exceptional every time. That said, every single person I've encountered, from the vet techs to the front office staff, has been warm, friendly, and caring. I truly cannot recommend this veterinary practice enough. I've referred so many people here over the years that I've lost count, and I will continue to do so.

They are very good veterinary service, well equipped and great customer service and support techs…read more However, their Vets are very busy so you may have issues with your pet that they may try to quickly diagnose but lack the time to research symptoms and breed problems. I took my dog there for two years telling them her eyes were changing and getting cloudy. They took a look with their generalized equipment and say to me that things look OK. If they had taken anytime with research they could have recommended me two years earlier that she had GRUP which is an inherited eye disease. Those two years of the disease developing without treatment was devastating to my dog.

I am heartbroken & deeply disappointed by the care my dog received here. I had been going to this…read moreclinic for years because my girl dog was familiar with them, what I thought was trust has now turned into deep regret. She was in clear respiratory distress, yet they failed to take her condition seriously. I was charged over $700 for testing, only to be sent home with her struggling to breathe. She suffered through the night & tragically passed away the very next day. They prioritized having me pay for medications that offered no real help for her condition, medications they likely knew wouldn't make a difference. I notified them she passed, they coldly suggested I just donate the unused meds since there are no refunds, even though the meds were not appropriate for her actual needs. There was no compassion. No accountability. Just a cold dismissive comment that "dogs like her don't live very long anyway." My girl was a member of my family. She deserved to be treated with care, not indifference! I trusted this clinic in a moment of crisis & that trust was betrayed. Pets deserve care rooted in compassion, not upselling & apathy in their final moments. Please take your pet somewhere their life will be treated with the seriousness & compassion it deserves. THIS IS NOT THE PLACE.

It is with great sadness, I write this review. My previous opinion was a five star. I really…read morebelieved that Dr. Jackie Pickerell was awesome and capable of making decisions for the welfare of our beloved dog, Mochi. Unfortunately, after our dogs illness that happened last week and the lack of care or support, I need to write this review. I am offering this as a cautionary tale; Dr. Jackie use to be on top of her game. However, since her unfortunate accident, and a loss of someone close to her, and a recent emergency call to her on a Sunday afternoon, I write this. After the last visit to Jackie, and a dose of two powerful drugs into our five pound Chihuahua; Mochi began to have diarrhea two days later. We ignored the symptoms until we noticed, she stopped eating, and by Saturday, began to vomit. On Sunday, we called Alii Vet Hospital. Mochi has been a client for over a year now. Dr. Pickerell returned our call from an exciting boat trip whale watching. Rather than refer us to another clinic, she suggested we give our dog pepto-Bismal. This made our dog throw up and by Monday, she was lethargic. Concerned, we called back, left a voicemail and waited for a return call from Aina Ahou; no one called. Dr. Jackie called in sick on Monday, and no one returned our call about our near death, beloved Mochi. Fortunately, we made contact with a hospital in Kona and rushed Mochi there to Alii Vet Hospital. We are sad by the lack of care or concern from Dr. Jackie and her staff; we hold everyone there responsible. Mochi is still; a week in the hospital recovering from her diagnosis of a serious life threatening illness. We wish Jackie well, and that she gets the emotional support needed. All things happen for a reason. Our Mochi is in good hands now, in Kona at Alii Vet Hospital, available 24/7 as an emmergency hospital. Me ke aloha.
