Oh boy what a treat! My husband and I were attending a festival today downtown and decided to seek out something interesting for lunch. My hubby had a friend who had highlighted this place so we decided to give it a try. Saturday afternoon was pretty quiet but it assume there is a lot of business weekdays as it is located next to the entrance to Brown-Forman and other businesses for lunchtime. The soup special was smoked turkey and cabbage. We split a large bowl. It was more wonderful than expected. In addition to large turkey chunks and cabbage, it had small potato cubes, green peas, carrots in a delightful broth. I ordered fried catfish off the menu with sweet potato casserole and Mac and cheese as sides. The catfish was perfectly crispy with homemade, yes, homemade tarter sauce on the side. That and a little Franks red hot and I was happy. Sweet potatoes hit the spot and provided the sweet to the savory. And the Mac and cheese was made with real cheese! Delish. My husband ordered off the Saturday specials menu and got rib tips, green beans and potato salad. Rib tips were delicious and plentiful. Green beans were southern style and potato salad was the mustard variety. We just basically shared all our food and had a delicious and filling meal. Now on to the couch for football and food coma! The staff was wonderful. Big Hopps himself stopped by several times to check on us. Our waitress was friendly and extremely attentive to our needs. Y'all need to get over here! Give Big Hopps some love and he will return the favor with some of the best southern food around!!

In the heart of Louisville (Louville) is a local favorite and the food is amazing, off the w chain, slap yo mama good. Out here for a sad occasion and discovers this little jewel. Soul food at its best. $10 specials with free small drinks, on Sundays. Lots of food cooked to order like fried chicken. Sides like Black Grandmama's use to make. I ordered the "Smothered Pork Chops", my wife 2 pc fried chicken. Sides were greens, Mac n cheese and rice with gravy. Tears actually came to my eyes as I enjoyed this amazing food. Dine in, or To-Go, it's all good. So y'all come on down to "Big Hops", ya won't be disappointed. Michael C. Georgetown, Texas

I could barely take this picture before I inhaled this food. The ride home was torture. But the wait was soooo worth it. This was so good! Had the catfish with spaghetti, a side of Mac and cheese. Partner had the 4 wing dinner with fries and green beans. All amazing! Ladies at the front counter were delightful! Will be back!

There are also picnic tables out front. You get a faint whiff of the grill/smoker upon entering. Kylie was our bartender and she was fabulous - knowledgeable, friendly, and answered all of our questions with patience. Wife ordered a mango margarita and doesn't like a lot of tequila, so Kylie went half and gave her a shot on the side in case she wanted to add more. It was wonderful. I had a couple of beers. We started with the fried mushrooms, which aren't what you would expect. It's two large portobellos cut into chunks, battered, fried, and served with sun-dried tomato mayo. They were great. I then ordered a duck taco, brisket taco, and a side of Grippo Fries with smoked mayo. I'd never tried duck but that taco was smack-a-lackin'. The brisket taco was also good, and the fries were fantastic - sweet and spicy, fresh cut, and crispy. Wife ordered a pork belly slider and truffle fries. She enjoyed the slider but didn't care for the fries - just not her thing. The portions here are large. A side of fries will feed three people. We took a hefty portion of them home, as well as some of the mushrooms. We could've sat there at the bar and spent 3 hours socializing and enjoying a smattering of cocktails - love the setting. Look forward to going back and trying one of the burgers at some point.

"Doctor, doctor, give me the news I've got a bad case of…read morelovin' you" (Robert Palmer) Doc Crow's two locations (Indianapolis and Louisville) specialize in Southern cuisine, so you'll see pimento cheese, fried green tomatoes, gumbo, pulled pork, brisket, ribs, okra, and jambalaya on the menu. Four of us had an excellent experience for our dinner in Louisville, and besides the food, a lot of that experience was due to our server, Julie. She was great, super friendly and professional, and expertly answered a ton of Bourbon-related questions from my Bourbon loving friend. My wife and I dove into the Southern theme and had a Pulled Pork Sandwich ($16), Southern Colada ($16), Fried Green Tomatoes ($10), and a Southern Gumbo ($10) for dinner. I ordered the Fried Gren Tomatoes to share with the table, and they were wonderful - "Five full moon green tomatoes fried in cornmeal and panko, topped with fresh chives and served with Doc's Remoulade". They were light as a feather, most definitely non-greasy and had a great crunch from the panko and cornmeal. My Southern Gumbo (A hearty stew filled with andouille sausage, chicken and vegetables in savory Cajun broth served over rice. Served with cornbread) was excellent. Great flavor, great spice, plenty of sausage and chicken, and excellent accompaniments in the rice and cornbread. And how could I not mention my Southern Colada, with Michter's US*1 Sour Mash, Pineapple Juice & Coconut. It was quite a bit stronger than any Colada I ever had, but I guess that can be expected when you use an 86-proof small batch Kentucky whiskey in your Colada. Of course, I loved it. This was our second visit to Doc Crow. We were there a few days ago as the first stop on our Louisville food tour and enjoyed a delicious bowl of shrimp and grits. The Doc sure treated us well. PRO TIP Be sure to check out the Doc's jaw dropping collection of bourbon bottles that seem to dominate the various rooms wherever you look.

The restaurant includes a long row of bar seating that extends to the other end of the restaurant, so there was no problem for me to find a seat on a busy day. I ordered the Mac n cheese and braised greens, and the Mac n cheese was really good and creamy. The braised greens were just okay, it wasn't the best greens I've had and it could use extra flavor. I don't know if this is a thing they do at Doc Crow's, but in my opinion the bartender excessively kept asking me what I wanted even while I was still looking at the menu. This definitely frustrated me since it was clear that I wasn't ready yet. I think she should have done a better job reading my cues to figure out when I am ready to order.

I ordered the shrimp and grits, and without exaggeration, they were the best I've ever had. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, and the balance of textures throughout the dish was incredible. Every bite had the perfect amount of crunch, flavor, and toppings. Nothing felt overwhelming or out of place. It was one of those meals where you find yourself slowing down just to enjoy every bite. Even the water deserves a mention. It was clean, crisp, and refreshing. If it came straight from the tap, I would have never known. It's a small detail, but it speaks to the overall dining experience when even something as simple as water stands out. The service was great, and the atmosphere was lively and welcoming. It's easy to see why this restaurant has built such a strong reputation. The reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 comes down to accessibility. As a person with a disability, parking can make or break a dining experience. Unfortunately, there was no handicap parking available, and there were no nearby parking spots open when I arrived. I ultimately had to park in a hotel lot about a block away, which cost $25 for just two hours. Not only was the cost frustrating, but the additional distance was challenging given my mobility needs. The food was phenomenal and absolutely worth trying, but I do hope accessibility becomes part of the conversation for future guests. For those without mobility concerns, this may not be an issue, but for disabled patrons, it's something important to consider before visiting.

It has a cozy, charming atmosphere that's perfect for catching up with friends. Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. It took a long time for us to be greeted, even though the restaurant wasn't busy. It was just my friend and me along with a larger group of about 10 people. One thing that made it confusing was that the employees didn't seem to have consistent uniforms, so it was difficult to tell who actually worked there. Our server was friendly, but he kept forgetting items we requested and took a long time to return to our table. I used to be a server myself, so I understand that things happen and I try to give people grace. However, the pace of service felt excessive considering how few tables were occupied. The food was okay overall, but I actually thought my meal tasted better after reheating the leftovers at home. My friend also noticed that part of her chicken looked undercooked, which was concerning. We didn't feel confident about that portion of the meal. The biggest downside for me was the pricing. For the portion sizes, food quality, and overall experience, it felt overpriced. I can definitely see why people like the atmosphere because it's a cute spot, but between the slow service, the concerns with the food, and the prices, my visit didn't live up to my expectations. I'm hoping this was just an off day because the restaurant has a lot of potential.
