A circa 1980s Howard Miller wall clock required a new mechanism and an 1880s French mantel clock a new spring. We called John about our grandmother clock which our Siberian Husky had banged into, causing it to stop running. I had tried unsuccessfully to start it again several times, but he had knocked into it so hard that I was unable to restart it. While on the phone, John told me how to restart the clock and waited several minutes while I tried a few times using his method that I had previously been unaware of. After my unsuccessful tries to start the clock, he said he could come to our home the next day to fix my clock. He arrived on time, and went right to work, taking off the back of the clock and fixing the clock in less than 15 minutes. The clock has been running perfectly, singing every quarter hour and chiming the hours. After John fixed my grandmother clock, we asked him to look at our antique schoolhouse clock which we took to another clock repair shop about five years ago. The other guy kept the clock for over a month and never did anything to it. He said it needed a part on the pendulum that he was unable to find on the internet because the clock was an antique. John looked at our clock's pendulum and said there was nothing wrong with it. He just adjusted the pendulum on its wire loop, hung it back in the clock, set it to swinging, and now our antique clock is keeping perfect time again! We then decided to have John take a look at my cuckoo clock that I got in the Black Forest of Germany in 1978 when I was there as a young woman. It's a gorgeous clock with dancers and musicians that I've always loved. Unfortunately, after having it serviced ten years ago, I hung it on the wall using a nail instead of something sturdier. Not long after hanging my precious clock, it fell off the wall from a height of 8' and dropped to the wood floor, breaking apart. John agreed to take it to his shop and see if he can repair it. I was told by the same clock repair shop here in Tucson that I had previously gone to (and they had kept my cuckoo clock for about six months, doing nothing) that parts were impossible to get for my cuckoo clock since it was old. John told me it should be no problem because they are always making cuckoo clock parts. We feel that John is very fair with his pricing. He charged us $100 for a house call which included fixing both of our clocks. He also took my new 6 quart KitchenAid mixer out of the box for me when I mentioned that it was too heavy for me to pick up. (He volunteered!) He even asked me where I wanted it to go on the counter. We highly, highly, highly recommend John! He knows what he is doing, is punctual, honest, personable, and clean-cut. We are so happy to have found him and definitely feel a connection with him. My husband and I look forward to doing more business with him. I also look forward to getting my cuckoo clock back after his vacation where he is going back to visit his old fourth grade teacher. I had 2 vintage electric clocks that needed repair, one was running but made noise and the other was non-functional. I appreciate Big Hands Clocks for taking a chance on my electric clocks and servicing them even though they specifically service non-electric clocks. The noisy clock, after being serviced, came back very quiet. The non-functional clock was retrofitted with a new movement due to the replacement parts being prohibitively expensive.
