The service is usually very friendly - they have no problem joking around with you...no dry personalities reciting from corporate requirements, here. One particular occasion, we called a to-go order in and they had sold out of peaches and cream fried corn on the cobb (which is to die for). The sweetheart on the phone literally went to the Winn Dixie across the street and purchased some, so I could have it along with their fantastic, hand pattied burger. How do you ask for better service than that? You can't. Their chicken and dressing is excellent, the hoe cakes are straight out of my childhood and the catfish....the huge, plate covering pieces of delicious white meat (no slimy stuff in theirs...looking at you, chain restaurants) are my absolute favorite. We've always had overwhelmingly positive experiences at Christine's and can't wait to go back. We've been there when they're short staffed and I've had to resist the urge to ask if I can help them when I see them running around like crazy. Instead of griping when something isn't perfect, maybe figure out how you could help? It's not like they are expensive. We have no trouble grabbing our own extra napkins or going to them to ask for butter or a drink refill, ourselves. This has only happened 1-2x but cut them some slack. You're getting good food at a really good price - maybe don't be so high maintenance. Or, go to a Michelin rated restaurant, instead, if you want your every whim indulged, the moment you have it. As for us, we'll happily keep Christine's as one of our favorite local spots and return as often as possible.

Y'all, I'm calling it right now: this is the best barbecue in the entire United States. That smoked pork shoulder plate--tender, juicy meat, kissed with smoke for hours, edged with perfect bark, and paired with their peppery vinegar dip--had me closing my eyes with every bite like I was cheating on every other BBQ joint I've ever loved. The mayo slaw was creamy crack abd the baked beans tasted like they'd been simmering since last Thanksgiving. If you ever find yourself within 100 miles of Tompkinsville, you owe your soul a detour. Backyard BBQ isn't just a meal, it's a religious experience with a side of fries. 11/10, no notes, already planning the next pilgrimage.

The portions are large and prices are very reasonable. It is a very welcoming and chill spot with an amazing smell from the smoking meats. Definitely worth a detour to try this spot! We will stop here again if even close, and might just plan a trip down to get some of their BBQ!

There's always a story to hear--and a few to tell. On our long way home, we stumbled upon this gem of a diner, and wow--what a blessing. Think home-cooked goodness, warm Southern hospitality, smiles all around, and a pace slow enough to actually taste your food and your life. Shoutout to Linda--absolute rockstar. She was flying solo, handling both dine-in and takeout during what can only be described as the sacred Southern time slot between church and lunch. She was calm, kind, and steady, with that gentle smile that says, "Yep, I've got this." The food? Hit the spot perfectly and kept us happy all the way to the hotel. One more story added to the road trip book--and it came with gravy.
