Big daddy's burger,oh such high expectations! I love the interior decorations.so much to see and read and laugh at I love the booths too Too bad about the food My pulled pork sub came in a hot dog roll and there was only a little bit of slaw in it. I was expecting more taste from the BBQ sauce but at least they aren't stingy with the meat The missus had a Jnr daddy and didn't think much of it Curly fries and onion rings were standard My vanilla bean milkshake with malt, loved it! Simply added malt makes the milkshake that much better! This is the real reason I've given the above score, this pushes this place past average Food did come out very fast also Might be back to try another burger in future and if I'm back, definitely be back for more milkshakes

Big Daddy's Burger Bar has an American diner set up, with booth seating and icons of Americana decorating the walls. On the menu are a bunch of American classics including Burgers, hot dogs, fried chicken wings, loaded fries, chicken and waffles and many more. You can order one of their house burgers or you can custom design a burger to your liking. We went with the 'say my name' and the big daddy with some add ons. The say my name was very tasty and that is why it holds a spot on the menu. We loaded the big daddy, which was already double beef and double cheese with onion rings, fried crumbed cheese sticks and pickles a beast of a burger. We also ordered the crazy loaded chilli con carne cheese fries and fried chicken wings with a side of chipotle mayo. Choose from the menu, or have some fun and create a monster. A great place to grab a burger and some American favourites.

I think Luke C. must have bit his own tongue if he tasted metallic beef or has the taste buds someone sippin' on too much haterade of cause this beef was surprisingly better than a lot of other places I've had around Sydney. Big Daddy's Burger bar is Americana to the max with all the trinkets and signs hanging around as the decor. The concept is pretty simple yet the menu is quite extensive. It's kind of a mix of Five Guy's Burger & Fries, Rally's/Checkers, and Hardees/Carl's Jr. I'm not sure how good every part of the menu is, but this place is definitely inspired by these chains in America because they offer everything from burgers, hot dogs, chicken and waffles, to Philly cheesesteaks, shakes, and more. I grabbed a Big Daddy Burger (double) which comes with cheese and special sauce. The other toppings are extra and DIY, kind of like Five Guy's except they charge you 60cents per extra here which is kind of tight on their part. You can combo up for $5 for curly fries and a canned drink. I added lettuce, tomato, pickles, grilled onions, and onion rings ($2.) Bacon would be $2 too. Tastewise it's pretty good and really reminded me of Rally's, my beef was smashed and surprisingly juicy for being done medium and the sauce and toppings all went together well. It's kind of a thousand island sauce which is fine. I think I'll be back at some point to try the rest of the menu. Great addition to Newtown.

The Mac Daddy (triple) with curly fries. The milkshake glass in the background is from the previous diners.

You expect so much, and hope to taste some real American food. In reality it's just okay. Came here for lunch with the cousins. One thing which I noticed, CLEAN YOUR TABLES. I wanna eat, not get salmonella. There was four of us so we needed a booth, which we cleared the dirty dishes and cups away ourselves. (Still hoping to get a pay check, how much do waiters get an hour?). Anyway, we each ordered a meal, took our seat and waited. It was cool that they had Dr. Pepper on stock. Couldn't see root beer though *sad face*. It was funny to read a sign stating all burgers patties would be cooked well done unless requested otherwise. Tried to request a medium-rare and was told that every burger is cooked well done... regardless. Okay then. The wait time isn't too long. Which is good when theres 4 hungry dudes. Two of us got burgers, and the other two got dawgs (hot dogs). All meals came with a mountain of curly fries. The fries was enjoyable, but if you're like me and have to finish the fries first before you start the burger then you're in trouble. There is just to much of it and you won't have space for the burger/dawg/whatever afterwards. The burgers themselves are okay. But the well done patties were borderline burnt. Cheese and sauce merge into one entity and, while enjoyable, would work better if there was some shredded lettuce to help define the flavours. Looking at around $15-20 pp. While this place does have a fun funky theme, that's all it has going for it. Might see how they do a Philly Cheese Steak. If they can do that like they do in the States, then all will be forgiven.

I came here drunk because it was open after 10:30pm. I ordered the double daddy which was pretty good in my drunken haze, though I got a bit white girl wasted shitty that it didn't come with fries. The staff seemed a bit bored, I guess working that late on King Street you're only going to get drubk dickheads like me coming in trying to be food critics so there's that. I guess. For a new joint Id have thought the amenities would have also been new. They were remeniscent of something you'd get in a back alley hawker center, out the back along a poorly lit passageway. Take your mace spray. Tbh the kitsch 90's does the 60's look reminded me of Hungry Jack's when I worked there in 1996. Maybe it gave me bad juju. Maybe it's outdated. Maybe I'm born with it. (Dislike for overkill) Food 7. Atmosphere 3.

Picture American style diner, fully loaded thick shakes and mouthwatering burgers and you have all that is Big Daddy's in Newtown. Located on King street this is a burger bar with old school red and white booths, memorabilia on the wall and music to match the theme. Grab a booth and order at the counter when you are ready. There is a good selection of beers including pale ales that pair nicely with the American style food. A word of warning though there is nothing remotely healthy on this menu. I went for the New York choc loaded shake and it was thick and loaded with delicious chocolate pieces - you may as well go all out while you are here. As far as burgers go we ordered The Who's your Daddy which is one of the best burgers around loaded with beef patty, pulled pork, coleslaw, American & Swiss cheese, Canadian bacon and American mustard. The burger had everything you could want without being overloaded with too many flavors. We also went for the chicken and waffles - delicious option and the waffles had bacon bits in the middle! The selection of sauces we went for included chipotle mayo, smokey BBQ and red hot which added a nice amount of spice. Order a side of curly fries and you are good to. If you are in the mood for burgers with all the add ons then do not go past Big Daddy's Burger Bar

Came here for the first time to check out what all the fuss was about. Being an American from a southern place, it's always amusing how the food culture I grew up with gets interpreted in other places. The decor here (red plastic booths and tongue in cheek signage), while totally cheesy, also totally nails the over-the-top Americana thing. The food, however, is nothing to write home about. My partner ordered the pulled pork sub and immediately devoured half of it, which I took as a good sign. When I asked his thoughts on what he'd eaten though, he just shrugged. Both of us had combos, which meant we also had a can of soda and a basket each of generously portioned, if bland, curly fries. Roughly $30 total for the two of us. I had the chicken and waffles, which I was really excited about, because that's a staple back home. The chicken was delicious, nice and moist with a crispy skin. The waffle, unfortunately, was inedible for me--on first bite I thought they had forgotten to clean the griddle, until I realized that it was actually stuffed with bacon. In today's bacon crazed world, I understand the impulse. But if you're trying to recreate real chicken and waffles, that's just weird. Not to mention kind of off putting for those of us who don't eat pork. The table we sat at wasn't too clean either, which I was inclined to forgive until I leaned back on the booth and found meat stuck to the back of my neck. Seriously? I'm not quite sure how that even happens, but that's honestly just gross. So, if you're an avid meat eater who isn't too picky about cleanliness or memorable meals, then this place works if you're super hungry and not looking to splurge. For my money though, I'll be sticking to Moo Burgers across the street.

The burger here is the main game, so here are my pros and cons for the Big Daddy Burger ($11 double patty): Pros Chunky ground Angus beef is a difference style than most places and it really works.... keeps beef juicy even though cooked well done. Lovely taste of good quality Angus beef. Hot right through the beef. Must finish off with steam or in oven to get temp that stays til end. Bun is deliciously buttery and fresh. Keeps its shape. Cons More cheese please. Less sauce please. More diameter please. Now for the wings. Cooked slightly oily probably because oil too low. But the taste and timing is just right for me. Would be crispier if oil was hotter, so that would improve things in texture department. Final word is for the chipotle bbq sauce - pretty good blend of chipotles (smoked jalapeño chillies in adobo sauce) with barbecue sauce, giving a smoky, tangy finish. Great with the wings. I avoided the fries cause they're the curly variety which always bums. A 4.3/5 burger. Worth a visit for sure.

Pattie was overcooked. That wasn't the worst of the issues. The beef tasted metallic with limited flavour or texture. This indicates cheaper meat sources or old beef. I could not finish it and I noticed that the table next to me ate one quarter of a double burger (Big Daddy) and left. One was overcooked and the other was under, in the same burger. I'll take a maccas Grand Angus over this any day. @thesydneynoob

I was really excited to try this place because if the bright, cheery American diner style decor. Sadly, it was a bit of a disappointment. It wasn't exactly "bad", it just wasn't that good. The guy behind the counter where we ordered told my husband they had "grape soft drink" which turned out to be Cherry coke, I ordered a vanilla shake with malt, which they forgot to put in! The shake itself could have been more vanilla-ery. I had a turkey burger which was very over-priced at $14. Ur tasted ok but was tiny and soaked in way to much mayo...which according to the menu was supposed to be ranch - not Mayo at all. My husband had the Philly cheese roll which turned out to be a roll with a tiny amount of cheese goop squeezed over the top. I feel it should also be noted that the bathrooms were kind of grotty and the door didn't even close, which was a bit off putting. At the end of the day, it wasn't an entirely bad experience, but it wasn't very a great one either.

Milk Bar by Cafe Ish is in a once-forgotten, swiftly gentrifying strip of Regent Street, Redfern. At the Milk Bar, there are a few things to note. They bake "absolutely bloody everything" (their terminology, not mine), and it's all absolutely bloody tasty. Seriously good stuff. Tarts! Nut Tart! Jam Tart! Lemon Tart! Best to come here very hungry, and on a sugar low. One of the main benefits of the Milk Bar is it's sooooo cheap! Cheese burgers are $5!!! they're small but tasty fare indeed. The patties are meaty and don't taste processed, and usually served with some well cooked onions and tasty sauce. You can have everything doubled up for $9, and then add other extras - so it's kind of a build-you-own burger situation. Another big deal: they have generously made milkshakes -- weird and wonderful flavours like the choc-coconutty "bounty" or the caramel miso shake, or salted peanut butter and jelly, or Super choc, or Orient express (with green tea ice cream in it). Like I said, come here on a sugar low, and Milk Bar will sort you out. One note: the space itself is pretty awful. They don't seem to have sorted out the exhaust fan situation so it's smoky, smells like hot chip oil, and right now kinda cold. They've only been open 2 weeks so that might be something they get sorted with time. The other option is to sit outside on Regent street, which is sunny but very busy with road traffic. Look, I'm not complaining much, it is so delightful to have such a cheap, amazing quality cafe nearby. The owners are sometimes a bit stressed, but they're very sweet and they mean well. And they can cook. NB: Cash only right now. Oh right - AND THEY HAVE A JUKE BOX!!
