We had Big Boyz Tacos cook at our baby shower and it was great!! I found them via Yelp when looking for a local taco catering team. They were super easy to work with via email to book the event, with prompt responses and simple payment processing. They were on-time (even a little early!) on the day of the event and got all set up easily. It was a super hot day and we felt so bad they were cooking in the heat but they were super friendly and had great attitudes! The food was fantastic and even with everyone eating and many having multiple plates, we had a ton of leftovers (not complaining!!) The pork carnitas and the elote were the biggest hits for us! I would definitely recommend Big Boyz for taco catering and would look to hire them again for any other parties or events we might have in the future and also hope to stop by when they're popped up around town! read more

My wife's 45th birthday party was a success and it was in large part, because of the great food and service that we received. Came here Fri 12.27.24 to their foodtruck at Santee Lakes. Walked by and saw the sign it said 4 Tacos for $10 and 1 Quesadilla for $5. And they rung me up $5 tacos for $15 and 1 Quesadilla for $8. WTH!!! NEVER wil I order Mexican food from them again..Its NOT even worth the first price. Grateful I found Big Boyz on yelp! I was planning my baby shower of approx ~50 ppl, and the park location I booked my event at requires any outside caterers/vendors to have insurance. I contacted a few other taquizas before finding Big Boyz, without luck. Big Boyz responded almost immediately, included a PDF via email that has all info about their services and options, and confirmed they have insurance. I didn't need to ask a million questions, as they were all on the PDF form, but even w/my additional questions, they responded right away. The park required me to obtain a different certificate of proof of insurance than I provided, and Big Boyz obtained it right away from their insurance company, no questions asked! It was a bit last minute planning on my end and Big Boyz were so smooth to coordinate with, and eased my stress. Out of all the taco catering vendors I've tried, big boys tacos with their meat grilled over charcoal taste the best!

Don't believe the hype -- they were awful. We had a party with about 60 people and chose Big Boyz based on: 1) Positive reviews here. 2) They have fresh flour tortillas as an option. 3) They were available when our first choice was not. The guest of honor cannot eat red meat, so chicken was our first choice and the first thing ordered. We also ordered carne asada and carnitas for variety. Of course, we were excited about fresh flour tortillas to be made on site, at a cost of $1.85 extra per person. We sent in our order in clear detail and paid the deposit in advance. I then updated them with the number of people, which had grown with more RSVPs. When it came time for the party, a bunch of people could not make it so we paid for about 12 more people than were there. Three people arrived to set up at the same time as the churro vendor we hired, who was starting an hour later (5 stars for those guys, BTW). Supposedly their prep table broke so they borrowed a couple little ones we had. They were on time, but I was busy and didn't try the food for an hour or so. All they had was carne asada, carnitas and corn tortillas. I asked about it, and THEY FORGOT the chicken and fresh flour tortillas. That's not cool. They didn't even have regular flour tortillas. Why would they have three people working if one isn't making tortillas? The guest of honor had carnitas, assuming it was chicken. It was not. As guests were giving up on the tacos (which were almost completely out), someone brought over a little chicken. Too little, too late. It was 15-20 minutes before they were finished serving for the night. So, there were three people working a normal taco stand. One cooked, one plated the meat on a corn tortilla (yuck), and one put toppings on the tacos. The carne asada was very dry. We live in the South Bay and know better. This was the worst carne asada I can ever remember having. The carnitas was OK but fatty. Some people got chicken tacos in the last few minutes because the other food had almost run out, and not everyone eats beef or pork. Even with paying for at least 12 more people than showed up, they ran out of food, except for the scraps. I fully would have expected lots of leftovers, but maybe because they had only 2 of the 3 meats until the end, we got shorted. We were severely disappointed, but I didn't want to make a fuss about it during the party. However, when packing up the crew handed me the phone to talk to management. I stood there for about 20 minutes going back and forth with them about the bill while guests were leaving. They wanted to credit me for $30 for their mistakes. Seriously? On a $700 bill where they forgot over 1/3 of the order? They would not leave until full payment was made. They said the owner would contact me on Monday to settle the bill. He did not. I was left with a greasy mess when they left (just in back; not where the guests were). It had just been power washed, but after the party it was greasy and had chunks of food. When I mentioned that to the owner, he denied it. He had never even seen it, so that gives you an idea of what you may have to deal with. To summarize our experience: 1. They forgot to bring chicken. 2. They forgot to make fresh flour tortillas for which we paid extra. 3. We supplied them with tables once the party had started. 4. The meat was overcooked and dry. 5. They left a mess, then the owner denied it. 6. I spent time haggling over the bill during the party, and I still had to pay the whole thing before they would leave. They said the owner would contact me the following Monday, but he did not. If you want Big Problems, then go with Big Boyz. read more

This vendor specializes in street tacos, hence the name. The are available for private events for catering, public markets, and for local breweries. I ran into them at East County Market in Santee and ordered four tacos, two carne asada and two barbacoa tacos with all the fixings. The tacos were tasty and came with a lot of beef on all four. The carne asada was a little over done but it had good flavor, especially from the smoke of the mesquite wood. The barbacoa offered a good depth of flavors and was tender. I do like the way they griddle the corn tortillas to give that nice color and flavor. But, I do recommend that they double up on the corn tortillas for ease of eating of the tacos and to help keep them together better. read more

I ordered one taco of each Protien they offer. Which is Carne asada, Chicken, and adobada. The meat was super dry, the carne asada was only fat/nerve/tendon barely any regular meat. Chicken was dry with not much flavor. Adobada was dry and chewy. All the Protiens were dry like they were over cooked, under seasoned and the guacamole tasted like nasty old avocados. Hands down worst tacos I've ever had in San Diego. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. Over priced, Over Cooked, Under seasoned, and Poor meat quality. Has these mulitas from a stand at a brewery. Super disappointing. I actually have to applaud them for being able to make our food so tasteless. I felt I was eating the food for sustenance instead of enjoying it. If you want something for the sake of eating, go here but the guacamole was flavorless, the meat was not seasoned, and the only thing I tasted was onion. And now they have way more options to add on and even have a non meat option for those who don't eat meat. The tacos were delicious! But Watermelon Agua Fresca was AMAZING!! That stole the show! I was first introduced to Big Boyz Tacos (catering) when they participated as a vendor at a community event at the Promenade Park in Lemon Grove back in December 2018. We again experienced their food and catering service at another community event a few months later. After two positive experiences with them, I hired them to cater a business event for me in mid July 2019. That was a big success and so I have decided to hire them for my birthday party in a couple of months. Working with them is a breeze. They are very professional and very accommodating.
