Saw this place and read the menu and decided I wanted to give it a try. Service was really good. We both decided to get the Cashew Chicken after the waiter said it was his favorite. Ordered some egg rolls as an appetizer. They were a bit different than the cheap ones i usually get with my Chinese food at other places. These were good. Expensive but good. The cashew chicken comes out and I dig into mine only to find Cilantro in it. Who puts cilantro in Chinese food? Who puts cilantro in cashew chicken? Wow. It was a game changer for me. It was amazing. My wife didn't care for it but she now knows that when i cook Chinese food at home, it's gonna have some cilantro in it. I loved the complimenting flavors. I can't wait to go back. 5/28/22: Overall 3.5 stars. Located in the Galleria indoor mall, the ambiance inside is pretty nice for a mall restaurant. The service was quick and drink refills were on point! We got potstickers for an appetizer, which was WAY overpriced at $9.95 for 6 tiny pieces drowning in soy sauce (2 stars). It was the equivalent of frozen food. Beverages were $4.50 for pomegranate ginger ale (meh, I wouldn't order again, as it was a bit too syrupy sweet) and homemade lemonade. Both came with free refills. For entrees, we got stir fry chicken kung pao pad thai and tofu with the ginger sauce & brown rice. Both were highly overpriced at $18.95 and drowning in sauce. I will say, the chicken was tender. And I appreciated that there were alot of veggies. The serving size was at least a decent portion, but I feel like these are West Coast prices, especially for being a mall restaurant. Our friends got sesame chicken and panang chicken for $16.95 each. He liked his sesame chicken, and his wife wasn't crazy about her dish. She said it's usually better. It was a bummer that they didn't even acknowledge the fact that it was a double birthday celebration for us, as well as we told them we were also celebrating other milestones with our friends. Every other restaurant we go to, they give a little birthday dessert...or at least say happy birthday lol ;) Also, they charge a surcharge (I hate when restaurants do this). I have never been a big fan of Big Bowl but thought I'd give it a shot. Service was 5*. Very pleasant with the right amount of checking to see if we needed anything. Ambiance was 4* Food was 3* The Crispy potstickers were very flavorful. Did not care for the Sriracha mayo, dipping sauce as it took away from the dish. If you order this dish, try a pot sticker before dipping it into that sauce for the yellow chicken curry. The dish looked fantastic when it was served however, that's where it ended. Hmmm. How can I put this in not so harsh words? I can't. Big Bowl has changed for the worse. They are no longer as creative as they once were. It has become lackluster with mediocre food at a high price. I paid $20 for green curry with tofu. The spice level was the same. Had me sniffling and asking for more drink. I just cannot justify that price for that dish. What has happened here?! It seems like they have changed to cater to different clientele. Perhaps it has always been this way and I didn't notice. You won't find anything remotely authentic here. It tastes like it was prepared with ingredients found in the "Asian" section of your local Cub or HyVee grocery store. It's a joke of an aisle if you aren't in Seattle or LA. Fish sauce free, shoyu free and completely umami-less. The only good thing was the server. He was so patient as I overheard the table next to us asking what the difference between mongolian beef and beef and broccoli were. He had to repeat himself three times and wasn't annoyed. Really sad to report on the terrible cashew chicken on pad Thai noodles. This was a delivery order. If I had ordered this for dine-in, it would have been sent back. Your best bet for lunch in Galleria IMO. Not authentic cuisine but everything is fresh and well made. We ordered the dumplings, the sesame peanut noodles and the Vietnamese noodle soup. The dumplings come in a soy based sauce and are quite good. They used to come with three different sauces including hot mustard but sadly no more. The sesame noodles are spicy according to the menu. They are not. Fortunately you can fix this by asking your server for some of their hot chili condiment. This chili is made fresh made at the Big Bowl and is so good. Add it to the Vietnamese soup as well. There are loads of other options here including curry, pad thai, etc. Compared to the other restaurants in the mall this is the best value and food. read more

This is a perfect Thai and Chinese place if you are in the Twin cities and looking for somewhere where you can pick what you want on your plate and how much of that. I'm going to write this review common to the one in Ridgedale mall and the one in Edina Galleria as they offer the same menu and almost the same dining experience. I'm a vegetarian and will provide my review with my limited insights on the veg menu. They have some exceptional potstickers and dumplings that you can start with. The peanut noodles are a good option too and we have always asked the waiter to warm up it a bit. Now comes the best part -Stir Fry Bar. The waiter at the start takes notes of your choice of rice, curry and protein and gives you this piece of note. You need to carry this to the preparing area, pick a bowl with a plastic tong and start picking your veggies from a plethora of choices. Once done, you leave the bowl there over the note. The trick is to keep the veggies minimum so that you get more of the rice and when it's served hot, Ta-da! If you have more, never fret. They pack it up pretty well to carry out. They have a novel way of showcasing their dessert menu with a plastic display of different items to give you a visual idea of the choices to pick from. A few items vary between the two locations. Nevertheless, this is an excellent place to be at if you are looking for a sumptuous lunch or dinner. read more

Boy, I haven't been to Big Bowl since my college days. As college students, this was a treat when our parents would come to visit us. We decided to give the brand another go since there are not many around where I live unless it is a Big Bowl Express located in a Lunds which isn't the same as the restaurant. This location is located in the Galleria next to the Southdale mall in Cakeea...er Edina. Seating was quick and we got in with no problem. This location fills up fast but you can do reservations online with opentable.com. There are a lot of things to try on the menu that are awesome. Mongolian Beef, BBQ Pork Fried Rice, but my favorite is the Orange Chicken. Now I know what you might be thinking, Orange Chicken is pretty substandard at Chinese restaurants and you would be right but this Orange Chicken stands out for many reasons. First off, it comes off as more of a stir fry than just fried chicken bits in sauce. You get a mixture of red sweet pepper, green onion, and real orange peel. The flavors are bright, bold, and full of umami. The chicken is lightly breaded and fried and then mixed in the wonderful sauce full of ginger and orange notes as well as a sharp teriyaki bite. It is excellent. It comes with either jasmine or brown rice which soaks up all of the delicious sauce. Spot on. Service wasn't much to write about. Took our order, filled our drinks once, I kept having to thieve water from my children's cups. =) Great place to stop and get a quick bite to eat or for a fun date night that won't break the bank. read more

This is difficult for me to write but the quality of big bowl food at Edina has deteriorated and became extremely sub-par. Since Covid we have been ordering for a take out and we have given them 4 years of benefit of doubt and Covid's concession for bad quality and irresponsible services. . The food ordered is most of the time incorrect. If you don't open the containers and check, then either something is missing or is an incorrect order. Most of the times they will forgot to put dessert. I always have to open the packed boxes when I pick up my order to verify my order and alas something or other is wrong or incorrect. The quality of the food is deteriorating the curry is either too light or it taste very different or stale. The whole purpose of this review is to help management make some positive changes. I wish I didn't like Big Bowl so much, because I prefer to patronize little family-owned Asian restaurants instead of the Lettuce Entertain You empire. However, whenever I eat at Big Bowl, I'm impressed with the high-quality, reasonably priced, and delicious food. This last time we went, the portions were huge, and our server told us that the restaurant had just expanded their portion sizes across the board. Other than the ownership by corporate overlords, my only real complaint about Big Bowl is that the food is off-the-charts salty. On our last visit, I tried the make-your-own stir fry option, which was a lot of fun, and kind of like a simplified version of Mongolian BBQ. I chose salmon for my protein, teriyaki sauce, and Shanghai noodles. I was stunned at how good those noodles were; apparently they're made in house every day. The salmon was cooked perfectly, and the portion was enormous; I'm guessing at least 10 ounces. The stir fry bar choices were plentiful -- all the standard veggie choices, plus surprising ones like baby bok choy and fancy schmancy mushrooms and several kinds of spicy peppers. The resulting pile of food they served me could have easily been shared by two or three people, and it only cost $22. My husband got the Panang curry with chicken, which was also delicious and enormous, but that dish was the saltiest one at the table. My daughter was quite pleased with the Ahi tuna poke bowl, which was an explosion of flavors. The potstickers were ok (the chicken ones were better than the veggie ones), but again, very salty. We also tried their homemade ginger ales -- we tried the one with orange and the one with pomegranate --and we were very impressed. They weren't too sweet and were a great accompaniment to the food. I was surprised to find pho on the menu at this establishment in Minnesota. So of course I had to eat some as it was close the Westin where I stayed for a work event. What I liked about this place was they had a dedicated gluten free menu and it was pretty extensive. Asian places here in NJ I've been to haven't had as much variety, so I was impressed. They even had a chocolate cake for dessert on there. The pho was a little on the smaller side, but it was good and warmed me up. Ranging from 12-15 dollars you easily get enough stir fry to share with 2 people. Make sure to reserve for dinner and definitely on a Saturday night as they get very busy. Big Bowl is more of a Asian American restaurant, so if you come in expecting that you will leave very happy. The Menu at Big Bowl has many options, but what they are known for and the most popular thing to get is the stir fry bar. The stir fry bar is completely customizable with many different proteins, sauces, and noodles/rice to choice from. Personally my favorite thing about Big Bowl is the sauces, the two best sauces would be the peanut sauce and the spicy mustard. These two sauces go with everything so I recommend you give them both a try. If you are ever craving Asian American food go give Big Bowl a try. Well, what did they do with the portion size of this meal? I know Americans over eat, but in comparison to other dishes in the restaurant, mine looked like an appetizer. At least it didn't fall apart like the Summer Rolls, probably because the meat was way over cooked. My dinner companion ordered the Orange Chicken and complained that it was too sweet. They have a sweet tooth, for them to say that it must have been.. I tasted a bit and it was like dumping a pack of Splenda down your throat. Overall, I couldn't wait to pay and get out. I would have been more satisfied with going to Panda Express. With the plethora of restaurants in Edina, and with PF Chang's across the street, it may be a while until I come back. Another very nice experience tonight. Actually sat in the bar area, because we came at 5:00 and it was happy hour until 6. But stayed in that area because it is quieter and our service from the bartender was fantastic even though we were at a table and not actually at the bar. Also very impressed with a friendly manager who was very good at circulating the entire restaurant and checking in with the clientele-I was pleased to see this happening. I have been enjoying big bowl for awhile now, whether it's the one in Roseville or the one in Edina. Even so this place is Americanized Asian food but it's pretty good. I am unhappy that the egg drop soup is only available for lunch. So sad. I love the egg drop soup. It's very flavorful. My favorite dish from big bowl is the yellow curry. It's not spicy but a bit mild and gives a nice creamy texture and taste to the white rice I eat it with. I will continue coming back here but I should try some other dishes. read more
