I like Big Bowl. If you search my prior reviews you will find a stellar review for the Rosedale location. I've also had great experiences at the Minnetonka location. I love the sangria, shrimp pad Thai, panang, and most other curries they have on their vast menu. Last night was my first visit to the Edina location, along with a good friend. There was about a fifteen minute wait, which was fine, we stopped at Tiffany's during the short wait. The staff texted us promptly, we returned, and were seated. This is a smaller location than the others but a nice restaurant with a cute little patio. We both ordered a glass of wine and the shrimp pad Thai. It was delicious and the service was friendly and prompt. My friend also ordered calamari. I had ordered calamari at the other locations and it looked a lot different. I'm not sure if they changed the batter because I remember it being much lighter and do not recall that it had been served with iceberg lettuce. Perhaps they were out of arugula or other choices? That would certainly help with the presentation, as a tip and not to nitpick. The pad Thai was cooked perfectly, but a little cheap on the chopped peanuts. Still delicious as always. The only negativity I have is the fact that we had to keep swatting fruit flies out of our faces. This is really unacceptable, you are next to Louis V and Tiffany's in the Galleria. I've worked in restaurants before and there are three reasons to attract fruit flies: bad cleaning/dish washing practices, neglecting to take out all of the garbage at night, and neglecting to cover the booze bottles at night. This was a pretty bad case because I actually killed one by slapping it in my hands, meaning it was a large fruit fly which had been living in the restaurant long enough to mature. I still love the pad Thai although I'm unsure how many insects I had to consume to enjoy it. This can happen in any restaurant and is easily fixed so please work on it. My friend and I wanted to grab a quick bite and a drink and couldn't think of anything too wild or crazy, so here we went. We got there right toward the end of a dinner rush and I was surprised by how empty the bar area was, but the restaurant was packed. We ended up grabbing a seat at the bar rather than waiting. Not too shabby, and it was relatively comfortable. I did think it was a little strange that you looked out from the bar into the mall though. We waited quite a while before the bartender stopped by, which was a little frustrating. We had other plans to get to, so I didn't necessarily want to sit and wait. Nevertheless, she popped over and got our drink and appetizer order in quickly. HUGE plus - I specifically noted that I did not want a sweet cocktail, and the bartender went out of her way to point out drinks that were less sweet. We eventually settled on her making a Pomegranate Mojito with a lot less syrup - it was WONDERFUL. We ordered one of their newer appetizers, an ahi tuna spring roll. It was just 'meh'. I felt that the outside roll was a little bit chewy, kind of hard to get through. The filling was great, though a little lite on the tuna. Their dip was also ok - kind of overall lacking in flavor. I actually really like Big Bowl, so why the one-star review? Well, it's because I can't eat it... I mean literally. I get off work at 7PM and every time I try to place an order online, it won't let me, tells me they are closed. But the hours say they are open until 830PM! How are you going to stop taking orders with an hour and half left in service time, during peak dinner hours?! I've even tried to Door dash it, but no go. We LOVE Big Bowl. We are from Dallas, and only get to eat it anymore when we travel, as they closed all their locations near us. We always order the Kung Pao Chicken and though they have changed the ingredients over the years it's still got the same delicious flavor. The manager at this location was so friendly, and treated us to the new Kung Pao potstickers, which were delicious. I also highly recommend the lemongrass and orange creme brûlée. Wish I could split this review into food and service. Food: Five stars! We had Pad Thai (her), I had Beef and Broccoli in a wonderful dark garlic sauce, and we split an order of egg rolls. I tasted her Pad Thai, and found it OK, but light on flavor. Maybe I'm spoiled by Taste of Thailand's Pad Thai, which is the best in the Cities, IMHO. The egg rolls were solid, and there was a choice of a traditional sweet dipping sauce and a wonderful peanut curry mustard. One taste of the mustard, and I never strayed to the sweet sauce. My Beef and Broccoli was really good. The meat could have been more tender (less chewy, maybe?), but the broccoli was a perfect al dente and the garlic sauce was as good a dark sauce as I've had anywhere. That's the good news. The bad news was the service. The bartender was great as we waited, and he went to check on us when he sensed we had waited too long (yes, we waited 15 minutes when there were a dozen empty tables...our ringer was off, having come from a concert). Sadly, our server was not cut out for restaurant work. He needed prompting a couple of times, and the entrees arrived with the appetizer, "because the kitchen was closing." I get it, but a heads-up would have been nice. Worst of all, he gave us the wrong check, a larger check meant for a family nearby. We asked him to fix it, which he did. But....we discover the next day that we were charged for BOTH checks. Clearly, he failed to refund the one while charging us for the right one. My friend spent a lot (wasted a lot) of time getting things sorted out. Had we somehow been able to have food without any human interaction (except the bartender--a real pro), we would have been very happy. read more

Oh I love Big Bowl!! I absolutely love their pad thai. I don't know what ingredient they use but I just love it! I like to put their hot sauce with my pad thai. I also love their season sangria. Last time I was here I had Cinnamon Honey Crisp Sangria and it was amazing! I usually come here for happy hour because they are cheap! They usually have $3 to $5 ranges of appetizers for happy hour. The staffs here are nice and friendly. Parking is free but it is always packed so come early. read more

One of the least satisfying meals I've had in a restaurant in quite a while. We arrived for our 645 reservation on a Friday and only had to wait a couple of minutes for our table. Almost as soon as we were seated our very eager waiter was standing over us wanting our drink order. Feeling pressured we ordered a glass of wine and a Mai tai which were delivered to the table in just a couple minutes along with glasses of water. Before we had time to take our first sip he was waiting on us to place our orders. We chose a chicken curry and sesame chicken. The food arrive in less than 10 minutes and was so hot it burnt the roof of my mouth. The sesame chicken was just ok. The chicken seemed very low quality and without much flavor. All together we were in and out in less than 35 minutes which is great if you are rushing out for a movie or if you are a waiter trying to turn tables. The dining room itself is also very noisy and frenetic with servers rushing back and forth constantly. The whole experience was stressful. Next time it's back to PF Chang's- reliably good and more in line with the kind of experience I'm looking for when dining out. read more

My absolute favorite restaurant in Minnesota, hands down. There are only positive things that I can say (praise) about my love for Big Bowl. The restaurant is located in the Galleria next to Pottery Barn. Plenty of parking spaces outside the restaurant and in the garage below. The restaurant also takes reservations which is always an added bonus!! For drinks, I usually don't stray too far from either an iced tea or a glass of white wine. On happy hour, they have some great drink specials but they are only available in the bar area. For apps, we always order an order of the delicious egg rolls. They come with an amazing Thai peanut sauce and a sweet chili sauce that are just so incredibly good. We've also had the summer rolls which are tasty too! For mains, the only page you need to look at in the menu is the last page - the stir fry bar page. Create your own stir fry, yes pleasssseeee! You pick your protein (or vegetarian in my case), sauce, rice/noodle, and then you get to walk up to the veggie bar and put all your own vegetables in a bowl for the chefs to mix up for you. It is pure genius and you cannot go wrong since you are essentially hand creating your own meal. My go to bowl is vegetarian, Chinese ginger garlic sauce, brown rice, and big bowl of veggies from the veggie bar including matchstick carrots, water chestnut, baby corn, jalapeño, spinach, broccoli, pinneapple, edamame, bamboo shoots, cabbage, peppers, onion, and anything else that looks fresh. The vegetables are my favorite part! Another thing to note, the bowl is SO filling. I dare you to eat half without feeling like you want to explode. I always box mine up for leftovers but it is much better that night than reheated for lunch the next day. This is a busy place. Big portions and decent prices but amazing flavor and quality. Give this restaurant a shot, and while you're at it, sign up for Lettuce Entertain You rewards because they give you birthday bucks every year and tons of dollar of coupons throughout the different seasons! read more

They have some pretty good food here. It's not something so special as to drive a half hour for but I was pretty impressed. Located in the Galleria Mall, it is pretty packed during lunch time. They have home-made Ginger Ale, which was pretty good. My wife said it was a lot better than the home-made Ginger Ale she had at a different place. I had the Mongolian Beef, which tasted a bit like Pot Roast with noodles. My wife had the Pad Thai, which was also pretty good. The dishes were very pretty. I couldn't find any faults in the food, but there's no wow factor either. When we got the check it wasn't so pretty anymore. It was something like $40-$50 for lunch for two. **2.5 stars** Big Bowl reminds me of P.F. Chang's, a very Americanized Chinese restaurant. It was crowded for a Friday afternoon. Our server was friendly and attentive. However, the food was below average in my opinion. The place was a hipster's joint then sold out to a big chain. The food is fantastic. Funny how it claims to be Thai Asian fusion inspired. With plenty of competition in the block or across the street they manage to stand out. Our food: Cashew Shrimp, Cashew Chicken both Szechwan style, Chicken Lettuce Wraps, Chicken Pad Thai, and Spicy Peanut Noodles. all the items came together fairly quick and with adequate temperatures. The Thai flavors don't stick out but are evident in the peanut sauce used in the noodles and the pad. The service was spot on and the prices were very surprisingly good. Four hungry guests had a good dinner and had soft drinks and plenty to take home for next day lunch for less than $80. I haven't had their famous stir fry DIY ensemble lately but I can testify for the freshness of the veggies you get to choose from. I just can't get myself to fully endorse their dessert. This place hasn't changed much since my last visit, which was over a year ago. Ordered their chicken pot stickers which remain my favorite till date. Also had the Thai Green Curry with chicken, which was delicious but wasn't something out of the world. Wife had the Pad thai noodles with tofu which was lemony which made it tangy but she liked it nonetheless. For me the peanut flavor was missing so didn't like it as much. The ambience hasn't changed, and continues to be nice. Service is good as well and our request of getting a booth on a crowded day, was easily accommodated. Good place for a date, but lunch menu really didn't seem to be as cheap as many other restaurants in the vicinity. Hopefully my next time wouldn't be too long considering this place is right around the corner from where I live. read more

Been here countless times - never disappoints. Very good food for both vegetarians and meat eaters . Last time went with my colleagues at work for team lunch . My first review in yelp and I wanted it really to be a positive one. Decided to hit big bowl since it has been more than a month, BB is one place where if you know how to customize your stir fry you get what you order. Unfortunately things didn't go my way as I did get what I ordered but a smoked/burnt version. Had it been just mine i would have let it go as a one off mistake but even my friends dish was smoked. Maybe the chef was having a bad day. Would have appreciated if they had realized it was burnt and asked us to pick veggies again. I spend most of my year in Los Angeles these days, and there's loads of good asian food over there. Since I was home for the holidays, and I sort of craved some SE Asian noms, my best friend and I made a return visit to Big Bowl. I came here once when I was in elementary school or something and most markedly unimpressed. Granted, I hated Asian food at the time. Now that I have two summers in China and half a year in Australia (tons of SE Asian cuisine to be found there) under my belt, I find Asian food way more tempting. I got a claypot panang thai chicken curry. I love the richness of coconut based curries, and this one did not disappoint. In fact, it was a little spicy, too! Super bonus. Sometimes coconut curries come on too strong, and you get sick of the taste before you're halfway done with your food. I'm happy to report that this was not the case during my visit. My friend got a yellow thai chicken curry, and it was kind of sour. I don't know if proper thai curry is ever that sour; I've never experienced it in any case. Anyway, I liked my food, and you may as well. :) The portion size was great, and I ended up with a box of leftovers. Also, as an extra bonus, you can check in on foursquare and get free potstickers :) I don't know if the special will stick around, but it's there at present! read more

I've been a Big Bowl customer since they opened. The staff is awesome, but since the pandemic however, the food quality and value has gone down hill. Two specific examples (from the last few times I've eaten there) are the chicken and the egg rolls. On 10/26/22 I had one of my favorites; Sesame Chicken. Unlike pre-pandemic, the last 2 times I've eaten there recently, the chicken was very stringy, and even chewy. It used to be very fresh whole pieces, and now it's stringy, chewy, and heavily battered (unlike the lighter battering in the past). I guess it's more profitable to use lesser quality meat and go heavy on the batter? My other favorite menu item that I just had was the peanut egg rolls. Since the pandemic, they've SHRUNK in size and the price has gone up. The egg rolls used to be nice and large that were practically a meal in themselves. But now they're skinny tubes with what tastes like lesser quality filings (including the that stringy chicken) with tiny peanut crumbs (?). I get that the restaurant industry took some hits during Covid. But unfortunately for some (like Big Bowl) the solution has been to use cheaper quality ingredients with smaller portions, and jacked up prices. It's called corporate greed. I hope that the owners of Big Bowl see this review and make some positive changes because right now, your food just isn't worth it. read more

I normally love big bowls food! But lately when we order one of our favorites-shrimp pad tai- it always seems to be missing some ingredients. Missing the peanuts, missing or either such small amounts of Bean sprouts, etc. it makes me feel like they are trying to save money at the expense of the customer. Decided to order the same thing at the Edina location and it was so bland. Not sure how it could taste so different belonging to the same chain. Just tried to have lunch at Big Bowl in Edina. I wanted to sit outside and I noticed when I walked in there were several tables open. When I checked in the hostess said that I would have to wait 10 to 15 minutes. After 10 minutes I asked why I could not be seated if there are empty tables. The hostess (who was chatting with another person at the time) said to me that there was one waitress inside and outside and they didn't want to overload her. Maybe one of the people standing at the hostess desk could've helped serve or something but I am not going to stand and wait because they don't have enough servers and the employees that are there are standing around talking. Love this place. Amazing chinese and thai cusines. We generally go fir dinner there. The decor if the restaurant is nice. Sometimes it tends to get a bit noisy. But its not that bad. Excellent service. Right from reception staff who serves you, everyone if friendly. They even help you decide and explain it to you if you are new or have gone there for the first time. Have nice collection of cocktails and wines as well.But the best part is the food. Amazing and yummy food. Garlic tofu and thai hot pepper are my favorites. Its one of the best of all thai food i have tried in USA. The chicken and veggie rolls are delicious as well. In chinese, i generally go for Cashew chicken as I like their spice level and taste. The chicken is perfectly cooked in sauce and with fried rice it tastes great. You can create your own stir fry bowl as well. They have list of sauces and proteins and veggies to choose from. Admittedly i have never gone for that option .But seems nice for those who want to customize their bowl. Their quantity is pretty large. All in all it deserves 5 star rating. read more

BIG BOWL RESTAURANT AT ROSEDALE MALL IN ROSEVILLE Important issues and concerns, sent by AAA Labor, May 26th, 2018 | 2:30 PM - 10:30 PM: 1. When I first walked in, I was greeted by a manager. I was not told to sign in on their data sheet. 2. I walked across their floor and slipped, twice. Once, I twisted my back but didn't fall. 3. Walls were dirty. Washing machine is dirty. 4. There was never a full explanation for what to do, nor, where everything went. I had to learn and ask along the way, which is fine in most situations. However, this one, it was sometimes an issue finding someone. Also, some of the workers did not speak good English. No one told me that there were labels to place the dishes, nor explained to me the proper order of them to match the right dish, which wasn't an issue for me, however, could clearly become a concern for someone else if they couldn't see it and had to be told by someone who can't speak well or had an evil attitude. 5. The workers tried to communicate certain job tasks. They couldn't speak proper English. So, I couldn't understand. A woman asked me to empty the garbage but couldn't explain how or where as her English was bad. These people, mostly Mexican in descent, start to point and speak Spanish as if that enables comprehension. Someone had to help. He couldn't lift the garbage out of the can. I immediately assisted, but, it was like the atmosphere caused this guy lack of comprehension and focus so he couldn't speak to ask for my help, nor, in other situations, lead me properly. 6. Workers that did speak proper English, one, Ricky kept coming back and stacking plates backwards in the rack. This could cause a plate to stack incorrectly, when pulled, and break. At the end of the night, someone brought tea canisters back to be washed with no instructions. I put them through the washer. You could see Tea film on them. Ricky comes back late at night and brings them back, irritatingly, with no instructions. I start using a metal brillo pad. She walks over to a counter and starts eating ice cream. Another lady comes out and says we don't have to do that. This caused a concern for me. I told the woman Ricky brought them back. She explained, she didn't need to do that. 7. They normally place glasses in a case then send them over to be washed. One lady comes back and, without sending them over, yells back "glasses please," and walks out of the door. Then, the same person comes back and says the same thing. I didn't understand, and the glasses were not full, so, I asked, "are you talking to me." There was an extremely bad vibe and she's literally walking back and forth with her nose in the air. (explanation, head up facing the ceiling, as if there is a reason for an attitude) 8. At the of the night their food pans should be soaked. Every place I've been they've been soaked. Yet at the end of the night these people bring back literally 200 food pans and set half of them on the floor. These pans have food stuck in them. One person comes back to help. He wants to do the dishes like he's faster. But doesn't speak English. I say okay. He starts sending them through. They're dirty. So, I start bringing them back. We were told to send them through, twice. He sends them through again, they're still dirty. I began to take photos of the dishes being sent rewashed when my concern was that they were being sent twice. Some photos are of those that had been sent twice. 9. I could see they have an organization issue. It seemed they tried to cover it up by stacking the dishes in the crate for the washer. However, they don't stack them correctly. Although, they couldn't do it to me, they may try to blame someone for not keeping up when the hired help/co-workers purposely place food pans in the crate and take up room in the rack so they can't stack the plates in the rack and slow the dish washer. 10. There was an entire tray with misc. items. Condiment bottles, cups, spatulas... That were dirty. I asked, are those dirty. The guy says no. They're clean. I pull them out there is food in condiment bottles and chocolate all over. 11. One could comprehend co-workers going back and trying to find a concern with the dishes... looking for left over food particles. It's simple to see how easy this could have happened. A person that never worked there wouldn't necessarily know to rinse both sides of the dishes. That automatic though is to clean just the front. I could see that would be incorrect, so I did both sides, immediately. I saw that most of these individuals would be unwilling to take responsibility for their behavior and make changes. I saw that some of these workers were willing to allow dirty dishes to be placed back for use. I saw that it would be difficult to report these issues to the manager to have him fix the problems without taking drastic measures. read more

Orange chicken was bland and lacking sauce. It also had big chunks of scallions the size of large broccoli stalks.
