I did extensive review on sub sandwiches in the Marco Island area before our trip. When you are spending time at the beach or on the boat or even just a nice tropical vacation or getaway, a good sub sandwich is a must for at least one to two meals!!!! Big Al's was exactly what I wanted. There is a sub shop where I grew up in the subs are perfection. And this place, is right there with it! The service was great. We called in our orders over the phone, subs were ready in under 20 minutes. Boar's Head deli meats, fresh products and the bread was very fresh. We orders Turkey subs and a tuna sub. We went back second day to get them again after pontoon ride. MUST TRY THIS PLACE!!! read more

Delicious deli sandwiches made to order! We went on a Friday afternoon for lunch and the storefront was empty, because most of the orders were call ins. But that worked out great for us since we got some very good customer service in person. The sandwiches are filled with lots of goodies, including plenty of meat slices. My son and I were parked in front of Subway Sandwiches but wondered if there was something local nearby where we could get an edible tuna sandwich for me & something for him. Al's is a gem. It's right near Paradise Seafood. I got a tuna with red onions and banana peppers as recommended by the woman behind the counter. My son got a BLT. The sole reason for less stars is that our bread was over-toasted and it affected our sandwich stability. There is not a lot of ambiance here. It's all about the food. There was a man there to pick up a tuna sandwich who clearly comes everyday. He shyly told me that the soups are homemade and the chili is excellent. There was a woman who left and came back breathlessly because she'd forgotten her potato salad and claimed it was "the best." It was refreshing to see so many people in workout gear ordering pastrami melts. I recommend this deli highly especially if you are a tourist seeking a slice of life on Marco Island. read more

Visited Big Al's two weeks ago while vacationing on Marco Island. The counter employee was not friendly at all. I got a large turkey grinder to go. The bread was fresh but the grinder fell flat. Ordered it with salt and pepper with a drizzle of oil, turned out dry and tasteless for $16. read more

What a find. This strip center deli is a gem hidden out of the way. Sandwiches are HUGE and well assembled with Boars head deli meats. Really 2 stars for service. We went 2 days in a row at 9ish to get a sammy for the beach. I specifically came here because they have Boar's Head. I was originally going to get a sandwich from the other deli, but they don't use Boar's head. The sandwich was tasty, it was really filled with turkey. It was also made to my exact specifications and was a bargain at less than 7 bucks. I had to come back and edit my 4 star review down to 3. I should make it 2, but I won't. Came at 9am on Monday, to get a sandwich. I walk in, the woman working looks at the clock and then looks at me. Seriously? You're open at 9, be ready. She wasn't. I wanted to order a tuna sandwich. She snaps at me that the Tuna wasn't ready, because its Monday and they need to start over. I say " ok," and order a turkey again. Woman says " She's cutting up the veggies right now". It took 20 min for a sandwich. The lettuce was not the same as before. No pickle either. The woman must have had a bad weekend, she had a bad attitude. She helped me both days before, so she knew I would take a pickle. Don't work in food service if you can't be nice. Maybe her dad is Al? If you open at 9am, come in at 8:30 to be ready for 9. Its not my fault i wanted a sandwich at 9am for the beach. We had a kayaking trip planned for 9:30. For these reasons, I won't go back. read more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE. We are locals to the Marco Island area, but had never come here before. The experience was the worst I've ever had on the island. As a young woman, I felt so disrespected because of my gender and because of the fact, I followed government suggestions of wearing a mask. The girl working behind the counter was making rude comments about people wearing masks etc.. and talking politics with a customer who was sitting half way behind the counter as they continuously gave us dirty looks for wearing masks. NO ONE behind the counter was wearing a mask, they only paid attention to the men coming in and out, continually making flirtatious comments to every man that walked in the door. I was cut in line not once, but twice when I was the person at the register and the girl behind the register allowed it both times! Then, our orders were no different than the other orders being called, but for the male regulars their orders were coming up in 5 minutes or so while my order took over 20 minutes!! Completely rude and disrespectful. If you are not a blue collar, male, regular don't bother coming here. read more

We stopped into Big Al's on a Wednesday at around 1230. We tried to go earlier in the week on Sunday but they were closed on the weekend from what their sign said; which was a bummer. Needless to say, I needed my Big Al's fix. I have been coming to Big Al's for at least the last 5 years whenever I visit the Island. I was told by a lot of the locals to give it a try back when and I'm glad I did. Big Al's is your standard sandwich shop. Big sandwiches, neutral décor, family friendly and a good staff that is happy you are there. The girl at the counter was very upbeat and seemed like she enjoyed her job, definitely a plus going into any establishment. I have always gone for the large meatball sub and this time it was no different. The sub is HUGE, has homemade meatballs, red sauce and parmesan cheese. I'll admit it seemed smaller then I remember the last time I went but man it is delicious and enough to put you to sleep. They serve Boar's head meat and cheese selection which is wonderful, as my girlfriend's sister enjoyed a roast beef sandwich, which she enjoyed. My girlfriend ordered the BLT which had some seriously good bacon. Overall, Big Al's may not blow the socks off everyone but I feel like it is MUCH better idea to head here instead of any sub chain or fast food joint on the island. Went to Big Al's after a boating trip. We were hungry and saw Big Al's. There was a line out the door with locals. We came with a large group with special orders. The woman behind the counter was very nice. Even though the place had a line, she patiently explained the menu and was accommodating. The food was better than expected, but the bread rolls for the sandwiches were rather generic -- would recommend fresh baked crusty Italian rolls to boot things up, but quality (Boar's Head meat) and freshness were all great. HORRIBLE experience. To be honest with you, this establishment, or atleast the people that work here, came off as racist, not only to me, but to my coworker who ate here.
