***UNETHICAL, DO NOT TRUST*** Called to secure official MLB baseballs and talked to Robert. He said they had them and would put them on hold for us. Was driving to the store and my wife called again to confirm the balls were still there. Yes they confirmed them. Went into the store and they tried to sell us non official balls. Wow. We just called and confirmed they still had them. Manager finally admitted they sold them to someone else. Wow. How unethical. Well the other poor reviews were absolutely right. Please do not waste your time buying anything from Big 5 Ramona. They will just lie to you. read more

I can trust to find what I'm looking for. If I can't find it, someone is always there to help. The prices always fit my budget.

manager would not sale ammo because he was short on staff. Even though him and the employee at the ammo counter were just standing around. Dude got a bad attitude when I asked why and after giving me his vague short staff reply he just walks off read more

Wow, I just went into this store and had the WORST customer service I've ever experienced. The girl Amanda was terrible. Some people just shouldn't work in customer service. Yikes! read more

A month ago I went in to buy ammo. I had to do an ammo background check, which was fine. The lady behind the counter told me that it would take a month before the background check would have results. I called in a month later to check my status. I was told by a guy on the phone that the background check takes a week, is only good for a month, and expires in a day. The next day I went in to get my ammo during the only time of the day I have before work starts. The firearms manager was out for 45 minutes at 2 pm on a thursday. My permit expires 6 am on the friday. I do not get my ammo and I paid for the background check for nothing because the girl who ran it is an incompetent know nothing This location is unprofessional. They know nothing about the service the offer and they do not have any sort of professional standards in helping the customers. They wasted my time and my money. I will not be shopping here any longer. I would advise you to do the same. read more

Just went in today to get a pair of hiking shoes, I've been shopping the Ramona Big 5 since it opened and I can't recall the last time "Ever" when I was ignored so much. I was about the only customer in the store and I saw a group of employees running in and out of the back room not once asking if I needed help for at least 15 Min. The manager was with them and it was like he needed his posse to follow him around, let's not worry about the customer needing shoes. When I finally got help he was there and gone in a flash then I'd have to chase him down again. Whoever put this totally incompetent manager and employees in this store should be fired along with them. The worst service by far. Got to frustrated and left with no shoes. read more

Every time I come into this store I am unhappy. Everything is priced way higher than it should be, most importantly - sales people are either incredibly rude (or just not knowledgeable about the store and products), they have incorrect hours of operation posted on the door - which are super limited in the first place. I like to support local businesses, but only when they want to actually be here. This time I'm going to use Amazon. read more

What the hell happened to this place? Used to be a great place to shop. Last week I bought something as a gift and noticed the package had been opened and taped back up. It wasnt a big deal but looked kind of chinzy to give as a gift. I decided to just go change it out for a new one. When I get there I was stopped by some guy out front sitting on a stool with a clipboard asking what I was there for before I even entered. I told him the situation and he said no returns or exchanges until May. Well that would be great to know when I made the purchase. I said that was fine and I brought it in and exchanged it anyway. The girl working at the counter apparently didn't get that memo so I lucked out. Today, I walk in and there are 6 employees at the register all standing around but a sign saying only 10 people allowed to be in the store. They all greeted me at once which was really awkward and I asked for Pokemon cards which were locked in a case (4.99 pokemon cards locked in a case). They were all like "oh yeah right here" and they all walked away or went on with their conversations. Finally one of them reluctantly walks over to open it for me. I start looking at stuffed animals by the register, I grab 2 of them. The girl is super annoyed that I don't hurry and just pay so she can keep farting around. I start to pay and as the receipt comes out I notice one of the stuffed animals has a stain on it and I asked if I can just grab another one exactly the same and she said "no, you already paid for it and we cant do that." She then sticks some stupid card in my bag like I'm care to ever shop there again. No thank you. Amazon from now on for sports stuff and I have 5 school aged kids so their loss. I typically shop local businesses. This is the only business in Ramona that's ever pissed me off and twice within 2 weeks. read more

Basically a small sporting goods store with limited selection. Everything crammed together and hard to get around the place. Staff was unhelpful and unknowledgable. Poor (or nonexistent) customer service. What selection they do have generally tends to be the low-end cheaper versions of the products - particularly true for the running shoes. I would suggest driving a little bit and go to the bigger stores only a few miles away in San Diego or Escondido. read more

I was looking for a certain size slipper at Christmas time and the Ramona store did not have them they then called and searched for other Big 5 stores that might have them. A few phone calls later the slipper was found and saved for me. The staff was more than friendly and helpful. Only 5 stars available for review. read more

Seriously someone needs to talk to the big 5 company and tell them to find bigger retail spaces, because being in these store is absolutely suffocating. I am always tripping over things here, knocking stuff over because everything is crammed in. Very annoying but they have things that Kmart doesn't have so I brave through it. No one really looks happy to be there, and if you need something behind the counter, be prepared to wait. Also information is something you wont get here so do your research first. read more

I went in for last minute Easter stuff. I waited at the register with my items while 2 employees were busy talking about tattoos. The entire time Edgar was scanning my items (all of 3 that took about 3 mins to scan) he and another gentleman kept rambling about tattoos and what would look good on certain skin colors. I'm in the customer service industry - this is so annoying and frustrating to me. Save it for when customers AREN'T in the store, kids. read more

I walked into big five in Ramona today and I had my mask on. There were five kids that work there standing around the front doing nothing. I proceeded to shop and they tried to tell me my mask wasn't on right. I was offended. as an older lady, I don't need that kind of harassment while I am shopping. Rude! read more

Big 5 employees always ask if they can help you with anything right as you walk in. I don't know where everything is and I generally come in on different looking for unrelated items (boogie board one time, softball stuff another, chsirs/sunshade another). If they don't have it, they offer to check another Big 5 store. read more

From a selection/availability perspective, this Big5 is just like every other one I've been to. It's a good stop gap for Ramona residents. My visit started great, with three people greeting me asking if I needed help. But when I actually needed a shoe from the back, the dude I asked for help was a complete slugball. He begrudgingly got me the shoe, handed it to me, then disappeared. When I found him to ask for a different size, he basically hid from me. I chased him down - behind the pillar he ducked around - and asked for a new one. He said "sure," then proceeded to grab a shoe off the rack and fix its laces before sauntering over to help me. When I wanted to check out, I had to walk around and find someone who was logged in. I probably counted six or seven employees working this morning...but I'll be damned if any of them really wanted to help me sell stuff. That's bogus. And disappointing. read more

I walked in and the guy sitting up front said "what are you here for today man?" And was very rude. granted it is during the covid 19 outbreak. Really wanted this place to be great, sadly I have to say I was completely disappointed. Justin, the Asst Manager, working in the evening doesn't know the first thing about customer service. After bringing a small issue to him regarding the incorrect/confusing price sign of products in the store he proceeded to completely disregard the issue basically saying that it was our problem if we were confused by their signs. He then would not even finishing help us with our transaction which we started with him and made another employee take over in the middle. This was a perfect example of how to ensure that he never has to deal with this customer again, Big 5 should feel great that they have this individual ensuring that the store doesn't get to crowded. Don't bother going in you'll be happier going any else even after you have to drive a lot further to get there. read more

I can't believe this company has been in business for long as it has... this store in Ramona just opened a few weeks ago and the company obviously didn't hire people with any retail experience, or take the time to train them. Went to the store to purchase a shotgun that was on sale but there was no one in the store that was licensed to sell the gun. We were told to come back another time and that the guns go on sale all the time. I guess scheduling people that can actually provide the services offered isn't a concern to the management. Thanks for the support. read more

The manager on Thursday night was so nice and helpful! She made me want to return to this store.

I've been in this store several times since it opened. I find things almost every time for myself or for gifts. The staff members have always been friendly and helpful, especially when I have to exchange for a different size. Some folks complain because it's crowded. I like it - very efficient for searching. And their selection generally offers something of what I need. So glad Ramona has a store like this! A little bit of down-the-hill life right here in our country town! read more

I got 2 clothing items for Christmas that came from their store. While I love the fact that they weren't made in China they were very poorly designed with the little plastic tag, that you usually just rip apart, sewn inside the collar stitching. I have never seen this before. Of course they were out of those garments and only offered a trade/"store credit" for something of equal, or lesser, value. Having a pretty good chunk of retail management experience I know their managerial decision (coming straight from the manager) was very poor as what they should have done was offer me what they did have for a couple dollars more. Instead, since they didn't have anything worth my trade that I could use, they charged me $5.00 for wasting my time going there, with a gift I got for Christmas, and not having the exact same items made along with not offering me something similar or even a gift card. These guys suck which is why I have used them less than 5 times since '00. I will try not going back again. That's actually what I've been doing the last 17 years. Good job, guys. read more

Bad experience purchasing a rifle. The purchase took over an hour just to get the paperwork printed. Once that was completed they still seemed very unsure they had completed the dros correctly. I went back today to pick up the rifle after my 10 day dros and had the same experience. It took an hour to get the paperwork printed?? All we should have been doing is signing the approved dros and verifying the serial numbers. So while they were trying to figure out how to work the printer I spent an hour keeping my 5 year old from tearing everything off the shelves. In the end I walked out with the rifle and they never once asked to check my ID for the pickup?? Needless to say I will not be purchasing another rifle from this big 5. This should have taken 15-20 minutes for the purchase and 10 minutes for the pick up. read more

I went in searching for a decent inversion table (pinched nerve killing me). I asked for the manager - Justin, as he has helped me in the past. He knows his merchandise and if he doesn't, he admits it - he doesn't try to bullshit his way through a conversation. He was in the back and Candace was nice enough to get him. He was polite, professional (not annoyed I interrupted him) and helped me determine which one would be best for my needs as well as for the money. I'm happy to take the time to log on to Yelp and write a review - a good review - if someone deserves it. If you need help, ask for Justin. read more

received horrible service..i even called ahead so i wouldn't waste my time and drive a hour each way. i spoke with ruby briseno on the phone when i called and asked her tocheck on the status of my firearm pick-up to see if there were any delay's on my pick-up day. ruby responded with if no one called you then it's ready. i told her i wanted to be sure because i was coming from a long distance away. she again said if no one called you it's ready. so idrove down to pick up my firearm. once i got there ruby waited till the final minute to begin looking on the computer to check on the status of my picking up my firearm. so after a hour drive 20 minutes waiting for the final minute she returned and told me my pick up was delayed. i said that's why i called almost an hour and a half ago so i didn't waste my time, fuel and morning driving all the way up here. i expect some kind of compinsation for my time and money spend going all that way for nothing. ruby didn't seem to care or appreciate my situation at all... terrible service and will contact the main office's about the horrible service provided by ruby briseno at the ramona big 5. furious client.... read more
