I'm a fan of Big 5 Sporting Goods stores. I don't frequent this one in Placerville, CA, that often. But it always has provided me with excellent customer service and a welcoming vibe. Good selection of inventory. I recently stopped by to possibly buy a basketball. They had a good selection of brand name basketballs in various sizes and material types. Price points were competitive. The shop was filled with merchandise. Plus right now, this location has lots of winter seasonal gear. Snow clothes, boots, and sleds. Well Placerville is in snow country. At checkout, the cashier voluntarily scanned a current in store coupon providing me a $6 discount. Saving $ moola. Luv that! I usually check for online coupons myself, but I didn't. So I appreciate the cashier automatically doing so. Not all Big 5 follow that practice. So 5 stars to Placerville, CA, Big 5! read more

My family has been shopping here for years loyally. We went shopping here and my grandmother (83 years old) needed to use the bathroom. They refused to allow her to use the bathroom because it is only for employees. They were informed of the CA Restroom Access Act that says she can use the bathroom and they still refused. My grandmother whom has Alzheimer's went on to soil herself before even getting out of the building. I'm beyond repulsed by this behavior and will never spend another penny at Big 5. read more

Chuck is awesome and knows we cannot wear masks because of health conditions and served us and accommodated our ADA issue, instead of choosing to be a jerk and a droid like the large corporations, which will be sued at some point for contributing to a hypoxic injury from the masks and oxygen deprivation. What a fun pleasure it was to come into your store and shop tonight! Everybody was so friendly and you found exactly what I needed and it was on sale for more than half of the price of nearby stores including Walmart. Your staff was very helpful and went out of their way to go the extra mile for my daughter and me. Everybody has such a great sense of humor and I must say especially Nathan he was so funny and friendly that we definitely will be shopping here whenever we have any Sporting Good needs or shoes or camping equipment or whatever else you stock. So it's small town and never really gets a lot of foot traffic to me. Every time I go in it's not been incredibly busy. Sometimes it's slow going, especially in the shoes department. But I usually find what I need here for basic soccer stuff. Employees are usually friendly and accommodating. But I wanted to give a big shout out to Chuck. He made my day when I needed to buy a Yoli brand canopy. He worked with me in finding the right price for my budget and ended up making a sale from me and another lady who was listening in on our conversation. Honestly if it wasnt for Nick, who was very helpful, polite, and understanding about my boyfriend's situation and illness ( diabetes ) I would have given this store one star. It took over 15 minutes for someone to come walking out from the back of the store to just walk by us only for me to have to call him over amd ask for his help. I even straight up asked if I could go in the back of the store myself to get the right shoe size. Once Nick helped us and we found a pair of shoes and it was time to pay the lady taking cash was rude and didn't even say thank you, have a good day Or screw off. So I stopped in to pick up a few things for camping.I needed some ammo and was sent to the ammo/gun counter for assistance. The assistant manager offered to ring up all my supplies and asked if I was apart of the rewards program. I think I am?? I mean my kids play sports sooo i have to be right??? He told me to check my email! Sure enough 15 bucks off plus a offer for a Kershaw knife for 16 bucks!! WIN WIN!! He was really helpful also suggested to always check those emails since they will offer great deals on ammo! Great service!! If I lived closer I would have recruited him to work at my company!! HORRIBLE customer service. I'm shocked. I bought a quest bar along with some merchandise. Open the bar to eat it on the way out & it was hard as a rock. I went straight back in to tell them I couldn't even eat the bar because it was so hard & the lady at the front just says "Oh we can't really return it. You'll have to talk to management." That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Give me a refund or a bar I can actually eat. Won't be shopping here again. Keep track of the freshness of your food products & everything else. Nice experience at the Placerville CA Big 5 today! We explained that we wished to return our daughter's cleats as she asked for soccer shoes & was shown baseball shoes. We had also purchased shin guards & socks. We brought the whole lot back as when she showed up for soccer she was turned away & subsequently dropped from the team (time limit to get gear, came in late already) so now we have no use for any of the items. One shin guard was chewed by our puppy, the socks had grass stains & the shoes were dirty, obviously worn. The manager readily accepted the store as at fault & refunded her for everything! No questions asked! I'm so impressed with that professionalism! She was able to buy 2 pairs of shoes for everyday school & then some. Very happy with Big 5 :) read more
