During the ammo-pocalypse and with wal-mart pulling ammunition out of California I've spent several $1000 over the last year at both the Atascadero & Paso Robles big 5's. Even though I disagree with their posted corporate ammo limits, I understand that it is the company who sets that policy and not the employees. However, What I can't abide is a tyrant who will sit there in front of the posted policy and tell somebody who waited 2 hours I won't let you have 3 boxes, I'll only let you have one Box of 38 (1/15/21). Today I watched him tell the customer in front of me "I am only going to let you have 1 box .308." Even though there was more available, And when I asked to buy the 3 boxes of Mini shot shells he (Not big 5) is restricting me to 2 boxes. I gave this location 2 stars instead of 1 because other employees have followed the protocol and treated me with respect. read more

Do not shop at this store it is horrible and the people are rude who work here. I am a Hispanic male, juat getting off work I stopped in looking to pick up a a baseball glove for my kid, I'm dressed business casual, I was spied upon by two employees who were peeking around corners and was approached by in total 3 employees asking if I needed help. I finally chose the glove and continued to walk around and look for other items, I was told I needed to leave the club at the front counter. It was a beginner's glove $21. I overheard the large portly manager (female), say keep an eye on those people they tend to steal. I do not feel safe shopping at Paso Big 5. I often popped into my local Big 5. Now, since they don't ask customers to wear a mask for COVID19, I can't. Since we have locally the highest rate of infection in the County, I'm very concerned that this happened at 2 of 2 businesses I visited today. The manager was at the front counter and did not ask people to put on their masks. When I asked the person he was helping, they complied and apologized. When I asked another customer lurking by the displays, boy we all got a loud, aggressive un-masked response that no he wouldn't didn't have to and it was none of my business. Well, I think all 3 wrong, but a scary encounter. Since I was exchanging, I had to stay and when I left I told the manager I thought it was his job to ask people to mask up or leave and he agreed and apologized, but he didn't ask the guy to leave of mask up . . . so, I do not feel safe shopping at Paso Big 5. read more

Yesterday I went into Big Five and after stepping through the doors the person behind the counter said I was not allowed to shop without a mask (covid-19). She said I would have to leave because SHE doesn't allow it (don't know if she is the manager). There is conflicting evidence as to whether wearing a mask is helping or hurting. I firmly believe that wearing a mask is unhealthy due to limited oxygen and breathing back in carbon dioxide. SHE should not be mandating that for me! Paso Robles is a small town with limited choice of shopping. But I will not be going there ever. read more

It appears as if every time I walk into this Big 5, I see a ton of angry faces and cold shoulders. If you want to look for something, you better be a good navigator or know exactly what you want. One of the places a local gunstore gets thier ammo from. I'd rather buy here than pay double.

I know stores are trying to figure out what to do with Covid requirements, but beware that you have to wear a mask. This is fine, except they have a plexi glass partition plus a table between you and the register and you are required to reach across the 6 ft table to use your card/put in pin etc. I don't know of any other store that is putting a table between the customer and the keypad for using a card. Wanna know where to go where employees will actually NOT ignore you and continue talking to each other, or stop stacking boxes to answer a question, or even ask if you're looking for something in particular? Not at this store!!! Another customer even pointed out that I needed assistance and that employee (the one that had been gossiping the entire time I was standing, waiting for her to stop talking so I could ask her a question) bypassed me and asked him if he's like some help. I left the store having never received the attention of even one employee. I was even dressed in sports gear, not a homeless person. I've been here several times and have never been impressed by the service. Ever. Went in yesterday to find shin guards and running shoes for my 6 yr old. The one person working around the shoes seemed more interested in talking to another couple about softball than helping me find some shoes. The one pair I did find they didn't have her size. Then off to find shin guards and thought being in a "sports" store, there would be employees knowledgeable about the products they are attempting to sell. Not so much. I'm on the floor with an open package of guards trying them on my child and I ask the guy if there was some trick or something to get a good fit. "Ummm, I don't really know much about that stuff. You could just take them out and put them on." Really?! Thanks Sherlock, I was already doing that when you walked up. This is really the only sports store around Paso so unfortunately I'm stuck with this service. Wish they would hire friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable staff. The WORST customer service, literally! Not only that, but I've NEVER felt so uncomfortable in my life until walking into this store and feeling the judgement and disgust from every single person working there. Asked question to the Girl at the front, rude. Asked man at weapons counter a question, rude and pretty much threw the product at me on the counter. Walked back to look at the deals on shoes, followed by one guy who actually just stood at the back door and watched every move. Not only am I tattooed on face and body but I am also a behavioral therapist out of Santa Maria who def. Makes more money then any big 5 employee and my other half who doesn't even have tattoos has his own business and to be judged followed and looked at the way we were was beyond disrespectful and I will never be returning to this store again. staff doesnt seem interested in making a sale. Asked about a product but the salesperson did not want to make any effort to look. Had to tell her that we knew someone had recently bought the product. Then she looked. Have had similar experiences in the past. Store usually is unorginized. Atascadero seems better. sales people are more helpful,But both stores should send their sales people to the Sports Authority in San luis obispo. Great customer service. Every department had a salesperson there asking if we needed help. We will be giving Sports Authority all our business. read more

Good location, good selection, normally very friendly. Today was the day I may not go back to big five. Chad, the manager on duty, lazy and a little arrogant. In his own words said he tells people to go shop somewhere else because he knows big five is not competitive. The items that I was looking for were a significant amount cheaper at other locations but, I was willing to pay a little more for the service. I explained it to Chad and he basically said oh well as leaned on the counter... other managers would have offered at least a 10% discount, which still would've been higher than the price of other locations, but I would've paid it because I like big five. But because of his attitude I decided it was not worth the service today and I would take his advice and will be buying the couple of items I was shopping for somewhere else. Lost a $475.00+ sale!!! My first time writing a review about any store but I felt compelled after the rude treatment I received at the Paso Robles Big 5. We've all been there, you walk into a store like I did in Big 5 Paso Robles, two staff members at the registers not helping anyone but preoccupied with shuffling papers of some sort, and awkwardly I'm just standing there waiting to be acknowledged.....nothing! Finally, without even looking at me he says "Do you need something?" I was shocked but I answered " Yeah, I'd like to know If you have any 22 ammo?" His concerned answer "Nope". That was the end of it! No " Thanks for visiting our store and we'll be getting some in at such and such time" who hires these people and what do they know about customer service! I'm willing to go back but not anytime soon. Think I'll start visiting the locally owned and friendly sporting goods stores where they know how to treat a fellow and who are also wise enough to know where their bread and butter come from! read more
