Came in here in a pickle on the way to a soccer game in Corona. My kid forgot his cleats and we took a detour to check out this store. Received a friendly greeting upon entering, went straight to the back and the girl stocking there was not as friendly, but she was still helpful. We were able to snag a nice pair of men's cleats for under $40 which was a great deal considering they are a smaller store with not a big selection. The mini bags of beef jerky at the register that were $10 was a complete shocker, but cashier Esme was super sweet and made our whole visit. The manager is super rude. I came in Saturday and she checked us out and had no enthusiasm, not even willing to put on a fake smile in a customer service setting. I came in today (2 days later) and had to deal with her again and she is very unhelpful with a bad attitude. How can anyone hire a lady so miserable to run a store. Went to buy ammunition. The service person was not knowledgeable. Asked for multiple forms of ID. Being a woman who has been divorced and remarried, I supplied every possible trace in my name from birth certificate to my marriage and current last name. The woman was just confused, even though I made it as simple as possible. I had my birth certificate, first marriage license, divorce decree with name change, second marriage license, and my state issued picture ID. She refused to sell to me. I even had all my documents from my gun purchase, including my federal and state approval and background check. I had everything possible. This is just sheer incompetence and full on discrimination against women. Men are not forced to carry around the entire history of their lives from birth just to exercise their basic constitutional right. Of course I was irritated and she told me I shouldn't be irritated at her because it is Big 5 Policy and she just doesn't understand what I gave her. Of course I'm irritated at her. I much more than adequately proved I'm allowed to purchase a firearm, which is the standard of the law. Is it REALLY Big 5 policy to deny women to purchase ammunition simply because they have the audacity to be divorced? I never realized that being divorced and remarried was some kind of crime that makes me ineligible to purchase ammunition. I will never go into that store again. And I will be filing a complaint with the state about the refusal and the reason I was refused. read more

I've been there several times and I have always had great customer service. This last visit I was helped by Nathan. He was very attentive to us even though he was the only salesman with a crowd of customers. He helped us get all my son's soccer gear and even climbed a ladder to get a bag down so we could look at it!! He didn't stay by our sides 100% of the time but he kept checking with us to make sure we didn't have any questions. When we did, he answered everything. I had a great experience at this Big 5. It was one hour before my sons practice I called in advance to ask if they had what I needed. They did. I got there was greeted once I opened the door. Found a helpful employee and he sizes my son for his shin guards got him a ball and socks that fit!! All I did was stand there. Prices were very reasonable. Came in to purchase a mattress for camping. I asked an associate to help me choose one based on our needs. When I got home I opened it up to realize there was no air pump. We were leaving that day so the hubby didn't want to waste time making a trip back down and returning it. I tried to return it after our trip and they would not take it back because the box was opened. How was I supposed to know there was no pump if I didn't open it? Word of caution. Check your receipt after purchase. And don't assume if there is a price tag on the product that you want actually means that is the price! I just bought a pair of sandals. Msrp is 49.99. There was a pink sale tag on them marked $16.99. There were others with similar tags for $19.99 as well. Went to the register and they rang up for $24.99. I returned a pair of adidas I bought 2 months ago because the mesh on one was unraveling. I did not have a receipt, but was still able to exchange them for a new pair. Guy working in the shoe department on Friday 2/25/22 shouldn't be employed. No customer service what so ever, telling customer that they can go upfront to ask for help and points out that there is a customer service sign up front over the registers that it couldn't be any bigger for us to see. Wouldn't even help a lady find her shoe size, telling her she could find it on the shelve. The cashier Hector wasn't any better telling us that there priority was to stock the shelves not help customers since they had received a load earlier. When asked for the store manager he was on lunch and although in the store he didn't come up. Ask for manager on duty and after waiting same no one. Ask Hector for the Team Memebers name in the shoe department and refused to give it to me although they all have name badges. This employee shouldn't be employed throwing his hand up in the air and asking me what has for him trying to provoke me to go back and confront him. I received terrible customer service at this location! My fiancé and I bought a few items and when we got home we open the packages and realized the product had been switched out and something else was there. We went back into the store to exchange the item and when we walked out the store supervisor Ryan was mocking us and making fun of us! All because they don't check packages on returns! The management and staff of the Lake Elsinore Big 5 need to visit the Sports Authority in nearby Murrieta. At the Sports Authority the cashier gives you a cheery greeting when you enter the store and a salesperson approaches you to see if you need any assistance. These Big 5 people need to take some refresher courses in customer service. I have been here several times to buy shoes and service has been a mixed bag. Last time was terrible, could not get anyone to wait on me in two departments and when I finally found someone (supposedly a manager) and told him their service sucked, he got attitude and told me I should speak up (to get anybody's attention, apparently.) Like maybe I was supposed to call out: HELP ME! PLEASE? COULD SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME?? I would give them 1 star for his p-poor attitude, but I'll give them 2 because I have had a couple OK experiences. And like the 2 star rating says, I have experienced better - at Sports Authority! For all the money Big 5 must pay for their colored newspaper inserts, you'd think they could spare a little jack for customer service training for this store. PS: I did end up going to the Murrieta Big 5 and the guy in their shoe section was definitely 5 star quality. read more

Big 5 is, was, and always will be one of my stores to get ammo, it costs a little more but in this day and time if ammo is available you buy it! However Big 5 also has a decent selection of camping gear, fishing and other outdoor items. If you need to get something for the outdoor world I would try Big 5. Staff is friendly but I think they should hire more staff as only a manager and a customer service associate were working there. read more

My family and I came to our local Big5 so my wife could take her FSC certification in a location where she felt comfortable. After years of purchasing products for our children's sports as well as long guns over the years, today was by far the worst service we have ever received. The store manager Josh was extreamly rude. Cut us off several times and came to the counter with the attitude of not wanting to do any work. There is some policy that they do not do FSC for people that don't intend to buy a firearm that day. Never tried to show us inventory he was very rude about it as well to my wife and I. As I said cut us off several times when we asked questions. The policy isn't listed on the site anywhere I've seen. When we wanted more detail he didn't speak intelligently to the details just that it's a policy he wouldn't give her the test. Totally fine there are other options, we are actually headed to bass and brass in Murrieta to take the test now. We visit Big5 in lake Elsinore every month at minimum the have a very small inventory and we usually end up settling for something that will work for our kids just so we can support local business. Going forward we will be going to Dicks in Murrieta as their management has always been helpful and they have a much larger inventory. Not sure if it's because we are minorities but I did notice Josh's attitude different with the white couple that had questions after us. No matter, we will be also letting Senior VP of Store Operations, Michael Marrone of store manager Josh's customer service, this post, and our intention to never ever shop here again. Good luck to anyone else that shops here but there are several opportunities around you literally 1 exit up the 15 you don't need to put up with rude behavior and low inventory. read more

I was 1 of 2 customers in this store today. I had several items that I was going to purchase plus I needed 4 body boards for Christmas presents. A very nice employee named Angel tried to help me. He only had 2 boards on the floor so he went in the back to check stock. He came back and said that he didn't have anymore but that Murrieta might have some. He was going to call the store to check their stock and the tall young manager told him he could not call. He said not to call on seasonal items as no one cares. I could tell that the employee was embarrassed. So I thanked Angel for his help, I put all my items down and walked out of the store. It seems to me that a two hundred dollar + sale would be worth them having customer service and spend 2 minutes calling another store to check stock.
