I was told to purchase soccer cleats and knee guards during soccer practice that they utilize these equipment. I was referred to go to Big 5 sporting goods as one of the other soccer players that's where they went to buy their gear. They had a big selection than the Big five sporting goods near me that barely had anything at all. Unfortunately they did not have what I required for my kid for soccer games they did not have larger sizes and men's available. I even went to Dick's sporting goods they had nothing either higher than nothing higher than a 13 men size shoe. The OG sporting goods store so small and crowded but has everything you need for sports. I mainly shop here when my kids need something when joining school sports. I hardly come in otherwise but I recently took back up hiking so I looked for a water pack and it was a reasonable price. Water shoes, shinguards, soccer shoes were all things I could find for my kids. Theres usually like one person at the front register and one person in the back to help looking for things. It's not a busy store so staff is limited. read more

My favorite Big 5 store in town. I love their sales! Great prices. It seems there's always something there I can't live without. Lol. Staff is always friendly and helpful. Store was nice, clean and organized when walking through. Everything was decently priced and they had some great sales running when we went. The service was a bit lacking though. Nobody seemed to be around the entire store. When we finally went to check out, we were slightly confused as to where the registers were because they were so incredibly disorganized and cluttered with merchandise that they were unrecognizable at first. The cashier was nice and took care of the transaction fast. The cool thing about Big 5 is that the deals don't end in store. They offer plenty of coupons through their ads and on their website that you can scan straight from you phone. A nice little plus. Great store to buy sporting goods with a wide variety. read more

Big 5 usually has some good deals on tennis shoes and sometimes you can find deals on workout clothes or other sports equipment too. My favorite part about Big 5 is that it is small and if I need something, (as long as I don't have to try on shoes), it is an in and out situation. I was a little disappointed on this last trip that they did not have what I was looking for (hand held running water bottle), but it wasn't the end of the world. I was also a little disappointed that there were 2 teenagers that they were chasing around/out of the store. (I guess there was a history of these teenagers stealing and one of the managers was walking around after the teens saying they need to leave and they were warned the last time not to call back.) This made me feel uncomfortable, but I understand this is something that was out of the store's control. Just hope all the staff stay safe. in that kind of situation. Overall, I enjoy Big 5, but I do tend to opt towards Online shopping, Dick's or the local running specialty store. read more

COVID-19 phase Masks are worn by workers and required. A worker approached me after he noticed I was on the hunt for exercise machines. I asked him where they were and he said they do not carry them and showed me some of the exercise equipment they had. He said they were out of a lot of stuff since the gyms are closed. I was out of luck. The store is clean and a lot of it is organized. The worker was very nice and helpful. They have a lot of other sporting goods stuff and fitness clothes! Recommended! read more

One of the most dirtiest places to shop at the ceiling is leaking water from the top every summer. The plywood from the back is falling apart. The restrooms are disgusting and in terrible condition. The District supervisor thinks he's superior than everyone else. The store hasn't been in good condition for nearly 4 months due to covid 19. The people who won't wear face masks are very rude to the cashiers along with the other managers. There's always people stealing at this location and big 5 as a whole doesn't seem to want to do anything about it like having an actual security guard like how dicks sporting goods has one. This place doesn't ever feel safe there's people threatening people's lives over stealing. This place as a whole is toxic!!! read more

If I could give this place a -10 I would. First of the store manager I believe her name is Tammy she is a short blonde with colored eyes an attitude. When in to do a simple exchange and ask some simple questions and she had the worst attitude ever and she is the manager. Then I asked to see a gun / rifle and she will not take the trigger guard off so I can check to pull on it. So I ask for information about the rifle and she said she has no idea and did not offer to call anyone that had that knowledge. So they just lost a thousand dollar purchase a long with $700 of ammunition. Go somewhere else not here. read more

Three stars because the prices are lower than anywhere else. The workers do not know their products and they ignore you when you go in. I went there to buy a new ski jacket recently and the girl at the counter was rude and flippant. I complimented her dress and she gave me a weird look and didn't say thank you at all. I can't believe these guys have lasted for so long. I remember going to Big 5 as a little kid. They stock a decent amount of camping gear and if you're in the need, they carry pretty good Coleman sleeping bags which are of pretty solid quality. 3.5 stars read more

I really like this location and come here often. I've bought two pairs of hiking shoes here that I wear all the time, and got great prices on them. I always end up coming here after work or on the weekends and it's busy, but usually I've found the employees are willing to help you. There was only one time that there was an exceptionally long line. The last time I went here, I stocked up on some summer essentials, including a floating ice chest raft (to take floating for 4th of July, whoo-hoo!). And they also carry movies, for some strange reason, so I picked up a cheap DVD. I'll keep coming back to this location since I've always been pretty happy with it. read more

Nasty manager. He is under the impression that corporate pays him to stand in the middle of the store to hit on other female employees while customers wait for him. Then when "he decides" to do his job and help customers, he throws a tantrum like little girls because you dare to comment about his attitude and his failure to tend to customers while blabbing with other employees instead. My wife and I spend $3K-$4K a year at Big 5, mostly at the store on Shaw, we'll be ok, not a big loss for us. Just walked out of turners sports with $300 worth of Ammo, and there are hundreds of other places in Fresno to get the stuff we used to get from Big 5, good riddance. read more

I think the store is great, possibly some good employees working there. HOWEVER, there was this one employee, it was a woman who I believe her name was Blanca or something along those lines. Yesterday (12/27/2013), she was on the phone with me because I was searching for a particular firearm that was unique. She was incredibly rude due to her tone of voice and impatience when I ask her about the computers saying they do have some in-stock (because I checked with 2 other Big-Fives at their store & managers saying the Big-5 in Blackstone does have one). She immediately snapped at me and ignored my question and proceeded to repeat herself, each time louder, to whether or not she wanted me to just ask her to search other stores. And then when I finally said yes because I didn't wanted argue, she said to put me on hold, and guess what? Yup! She hung up on me. A simple way to get me out of her hair and faking her policy to follow protocols or company manners. If ANYONE reads this and sees or speaks with this woman, be cautious!! There is a very high chance that she will be either intolerant or ill- mannered. It's due to employees like her that I will not come back to that Big-Five store ever again, least not with her around! read more

The smallest weirdest laid out big-5. It's a weird oblong triangle inside. Things are kind of stored in a mis-mash. But the staff is wiling to cruise around the store with you and find what you are looking for. There is a ton of items, hunting, tennis, as seen on tv crap, shoes etc Giant parking lot. read more

Looking at the other reviews, I see poor customer service is what this Big 5 is all about. My family and I went in and the girl at the register, looks up, and then looks back down to her phone. No Welcome no nothing. All of us separated to look for what we wanted. At the Sporting Arms section a young guy assisted me and was polite. Later my GF asked the girl at register , who was ringing up someone at register , if there was a key to the bathroom. She said yes, and went back to ringing up customer. My GF stood there waiting for "Here is the Key" response which never came. I overheard the convo and stepped out of area and said Well Are You Going to give her a key? The same guy who helped me earlier stepped in and said Yes I'll open it for u. We were ready to purchase, but after my GF came back from bathroom I was done. Would not give my money to this store. Absolutely the worst customer service ever. Walked in, the 2girls at the front counter are gossiping abouylt another co worker and dont greet me. I tried to get ones attention to ask where the womens workout gloves were. She pauses, points across the store and says over there, then resumes her conversation. So I walk over find them myself, return to pay and they r still gossiping. I ask if I should go to the other register and 1 girl goes yeah he'll help u. I got to the other register and he cant remember his login password. When he finally gets it right, she stops him n goes oh wait let me get the big bills out first. This is a semi-dilapidated Big 5 location, like a lot of others. Feels like most of the stock is just piled in here. You're kind of on your own. However, amongst the mish mash you can find a few items that you may need, usually at what I'd call fair retail prices. Nothing special, but a good compliment to the more expensive Herb Bauer and REI down the street. read more

Went there last week. Guy who was behind the counter where the fire arms are, was very rude. Talk to me like i was stupid, he hesitated to answer my questions. I was there for some baseball gear and was curious about the weapons. I admit i know nothing about them, but thats why i asked a couple questions. The Shaw Ave. Big 5 has reinforced my perception that there are better places to shop for one's athletic needs. The sales staff needs some serious instruction on customer service. With Christmas gift card in hand and needing some cross training shoes, I was pleasantly greeted by a young lady behind the cash register who directed me toward the shoe department. Having made my choice of a Nike brand shoe, I wandered the store for a few minutes to find a salesperson who could find my choice in the correct size. As luck would have it, I found two "salespeople" in the athletic wear department deeply engaged in conversation with the word "relationship(s)" filtering into their conversation. Visions of Dr. Phil or Oprah came to mind. Do I interrupt or listen for a moment? After some 30 seconds, a discreet "ahem" got their attention. Reluctantly, the male posing as a salesman came over to me and went to find a box with the correct shoes. "Did you find everything you needed?" I was asked as I redeemed my gift card at the checkout counter. "Yes...and then some," was my reply. The shoes were fine, but the overall sales experience left much to be desired. read more

Not so good customer service. I went there yesterday (12/20/2016) and there were no greetings. A guy who worked there asked my boyfriend if he can help him with anything, and my boyfriend was looking for ankle socks. And the worker said you MIGHT be able to find it over there, and he just left without even looking at the section to make sure the ankle socks was there. Also, there was another man who worked there, and I believe he thought me and my boyfriend was stealing. The way he approached us was like a quick check from long distance and went back to work. Furthermore, when I was checking out at the front, and I did not like the service that I got. I was going to pay for $12 socks instead of $9, because the socks cost $9 (Its not a big difference to some of y'all but every penny counts).
