We got to try out the new location this week and we went disappointed. Little has changed from Theo's except for the food. I started with the escargot and my wife had a salad. The escargot was cooked perfectly and sitting in a piece of handmade bread soaked in butter. The bread was almost as good as the escargot. My wife said her salad was very good. I then had the red fish which was cooked perfectly and it was 2 large filets, I could barely eat both. The mashed potatoes were too runny for me, I prefer them thicker. My wife had the beef bourguignon and it was also cooked perfectly. We finished with a peach pastry that was so good, I might go back just for that. Wow, lot to say! Fairly new French restaurant in downtown Springdale. Friends invited us to a New Year's Eve 4 course meal with a wine pairing. It was quite the experience. Our reservation was at 8:30, we didn't get seated till 9:30, but they did not disappoint! We sat at the bar and enjoy awesome drinks! For our 4 course meal we ordered one of each so we could experience everything! Attended the $35 3course Tuesday and was impressed by the value of my meal. Firstly, service was super accommodating of all our special requests as the restaurant was barely full that evening. With that being said, the candles, art and music selection truly set the mood. Our meat selections were super tender and a fair portion sizes. This is a great new restaurant in Springdale. If you're looking to scratch the French cuisine itch in NWA, there's probably not a better spot. Everything we ordered was delicious with the star of the show being the Beef Bourguignon. Tender and rich with flavor, I highly recommend. The french onion soup is amazing and definitely worth the stop alone. The mashed potato side was decadent and fabulous. Came here for dinner with friends to try the Tuesday night special which is a shortened menu with smaller sized dishes for a reduced price. I started with the French Onion soup as did everyone at the table. The soup was full of delicious flavors and the cheese was a perfect addition to the flavors. I the had the Sole Meunière that was cooked perfectly with a nice lemon sauce and roasted potatoes. One of the guests had the steak and said it was cooked perfectly. Service was excruciatingly slow! There was a party of ~10 that arrived after us and were served before our party of 4! The meal was okay, but nothing special. I ordered the sea bass but was later told that the kitchen had dropped the last one on the floor and I had to order something else. I went with the 3 scallops with 2 baby carrots for $37, Jack. Meh. And to top everything off, the owner and a mysterious employee were enjoying a nice bottle of wine at the exposed bar while we waited over an hour for our food. Not worth the price IMHO. Perfect anniversary dinner. Food, service and ambiance was spot on for a celebratory dinner.

Underwhelming and expensive experience made this a very disappointing night. Moreover, extremely small portions with high price tags, mediocre execution, and a lack of customer focus make Bienvenue an unlikely repeat trip. Just finding the door was difficult as it was out of sight on the far side of a building away from the parking lot with construction in between. A little signage would have helped. First, the food was okay, but unmemorable. It was not really the classic French bistro fare we expected: no Moules Frites, no Croque Madame, no trout almandine, no chocolate mousse, etc, Still, it was not an inspired and contemporized reimagining of the French Bistro either. It also lacked any hint toward upscale New Orleans cuisine like Oysters Rockefeller. Bienvenue is a restaurant that does not know who it is or its mission so how could we? The drink menu was mostly classic drinks. When we asked the bartender which was his favorite he said the gimlet because it's easy and fast to make. Not really the customer-centric benefits we were seeking. We were informed by the waiter that the "Last Word"had a Chartreuse substitution which is really what makes the drink what it is. We had to ask what that substitution was and then he had to ask the bartender because he did not know. Shockingly, they replaced the Chartreuse with Pernod which in no way is a suitable substitute and fundamentally changes the drink. The waiter said it was because they no longer make Green Chartreuse which I knew was not true given I have a bottle in my bar. If you are going to serve the standards that people know and love, don't mess with them. If you must make it work, how about replacing green with Yellow Chartreuse if you cannot source it for a similar flavor profile? If that does not work, take it off the menu. The waiter raved about the bread service from their in-house baker -added charge which is odd for a French bistro as bread is a basic human right in France . The rolls were not French or anything special. The basket included focaccia too that was hard from reheating and not French. There was not much of it either for $8. Furthermore, you expect awesome butter at a French bistro. Again, it was nothing remarkable. Our beet and Brussels sprouts dishes we ordered to share among 4 people were served on a plate the size of a drink coaster with plenty of border showing - maybe we each got a bite. Should have known there was a general lack of attention to detail when the menu said the beets were served with "goats" cheese. The foie gras appetizer was the best thing we ate all night, but it was small even for a foie gras serving. I had the lamb chop special. They were passable, but nothing particularly interesting. The only thing worse than overcooked lamb is undercooked lamb which is tough to eat with a knife and fork. I like my lamb pretty rare, but this was close to raw. Also, they were presented as two double chops which are also harder to maneuver at the table with a very dull steak knife. These should have been split in the kitchen. Lastly, the plate was over sauced so the mashed potatoes mixed together for one homogeneous thing with some asparagus floating in it all. My wife's seafood pasta (again, not French) was very small and lacked much seafood for over $40. My friend's cassoulet with a lamb shank was really lamb shank on top of some white beans. It was not cassoulet in any traditional sense and hard to argue in any contemporary sense either. The table ended the evening sharing a crème brûlée that was described as having a hint of bay leaf (could not taste it nor was I sure I wanted to) and topped with pistachios and strawberry ice cream. Despite the pistachios not being traditional, I could understand this textural addition. However, who would add ice cream to a custard. Both were good, just not together. As far as the bay leaf, if you want to add a herbal twist, why not try something like lavender, cardamom, or even rosemary. Better, just execute the classic well. That is the reason it is a classic. Service overall was obtrusive and uninformed. The waiter interrupted our conversation every time he came to the table instead of pausing to be acknowledged first. He also did not have answers to basic questions like what cut of lamb is in the special and how is the meat prepared. Further, he asked what we wanted for dessert while I was still in mid-bite of my entree. That may be standard at Applebees, but not at this price point. The final straw was how we had barely paid when they rudely barged in to tell us how we were invited to leave our table to move to their bar. It was after 9 PM. We were there to catch up with old friends and this indelicate touch caused a very abrupt end to the night proving a general disrespect for their diner's experience. We went for Valentine's Day. It was a price fix menu since it was a special night. The Gumbo was the best I ever had, lamb chops were a perfect medium rare and perfectly seasoned. Wonderful addition to NW Arkansas! Decor, ambiance, service, and food were spot on. Have dined at other upscale restaurants in Fayetteville and this is on par with a much better price point. We tried Bienvenue Restaurant in Downtown Springdale tonight on their 3rd night. Their menu is very traditional French and the interior design compliments the French experience. Seating was prompt and service by Audrey and Christian was attentive but not over done. The wine list is predominantly French, appears to be well selected, and over priced like every other restaurant in NWA. The menu is very well thought out and good but short of great. The rabbit dish was cooked to perfection which can be easily overcooked and it wasn't. Unfortunately the au jus was salty, easily fixed. The escargot needed something. More garlic and shallots? Or add some cognac. Personal preference. Will we go back? You bet. 4.2 of 5.0 stars on my critique. read more

I ate dinner here for the first time last night. I was in the same group as Jeff M. (who left a review earlier today) and I had a somewhat more positive experience than he did, at least as far as the food was concerned. I think one of the challenges in reviewing a restaurant like this is trying to determine expectations: should it be compared to restaurants in major cities trying to provide a serious French experience or should it be compared to restaurants in NW Arkansas at a similar price point and aspiration (since there is little to no French food in the area to which it can be compared)? I'm not sure I know the answer, but I did end the evening feeling like it was an overall positive experience relative to the available options in the area and I do hope the restaurant improves where possible and thrives since we need all the good food we can get around here. First, the positives. I was generally happy with the food and even though some of the side dishes (we ordered them as appetizers) were small, at $7/each, I wasn't disappointed in the portions. I particularly liked the Brussels sprouts and the Foie Gras with pear. For the main course, my wife ordered the Boeuf Bourguignon and I ordered the lamb shank cassoulet. These are both dishes that I have made myself many times and eaten in restaurants both in France and the U.S., so I know them well. This is quintessential French comfort food. I would describe Bienvenue's version of both of these as "deconstructed". The lamb loin was sitting on top of a small bowl of cassoulet and the Boeuf Bourguignon had many of the traditional ingredients, but like my cassoulet, the meat was served somewhat distinct from the rest of the dish. I will say that I found both dishes to be tasty and to hit the flavor notes that I would expect from these dishes, even if the presentation was not traditional. The proteins were cooked to an appropriate temperature and had clearly spent many hours in a reduction. I would happily order either of these again. Now for the not so positive. The bread service for $9 was a bit odd. I enjoyed the rolls, but the focaccia seemed out of place and didn't seem to be as fresh as the rolls. I think bread service should be included in a fine dining experience and even in situations in which I have seen a charge for it, it has usually been at a lower price point. The creme brulet was solid, but everyone at the table thought that perhaps the waiter had misspoken when he said there was bay leaf in it. We didn't taste it (not that bay leaf has a lot of flavor to impart anyway), but it's just as well since that would have been a more appropriate addition to any of our entrees. The waiter was friendly and well-intentioned, but he could use some additional training, especially for a restaurant that has these aspirations. This is, unfortunately, a common theme in NW AR, even in the better restaurants. I am hopeful that this will improve over time as the region gets more traction in culinary circles. Lastly, as my friend Jeff mentioned, we had an unfortunate incident at the end of the meal. I think we would all be more inclined to give a better review if it hadn't been for that last little coup de grâce (so to speak). Within a moment of us paying the bill, a woman (a manager, I assume) came over to the table and abruptly asked if she could take our drinks to the bar. When we asked to clarify if we were being asked to vacate the table, she said that yes, she had a party with a reservation for our table. Now, to be fair, we had been at the table for close to 2.5 hours, enjoying a leisurely meal as would be done in France itself, so I can understand if they needed to turn the table. I think our frustration was more in how this was handled. Why did someone wait to the last second and then just suddenly ask us to get up immediately? Couldn't she have approached us 15 minutes earlier and given us a gentle nudge to perhaps vacate in the next 20 minutes or so? Also, there was a similarly sized vacant 4-top table that appeared to be available and there was only one group waiting for a table in the bar, so couldn't they have set the other available table for the group at the bar and given us a few more minutes at our table and then asked us to leave if the next reservation showed up (and at 9pm in Springdale, it's highly doubtful any more reservations were booked). Interrupting our conversation and asking us to immediately leave the table was not the right approach and I think this left a sour taste in my mouth after what was otherwise an enjoyable meal. All in all, I had a positive experience relative to my expectations and I will likely go back at some point and give it another try. I hope they can continue to hone their customer service and iron out the opportunities that exist primarily on that end of things. If they can do that, then I expect this will be a very good addition to the restaurant scene in the region. read more

We had a group of 8 on a Tuesday night. Service was great and ambiance was casual. Unfortunately, they were short on the escargot appetizer, only had 2 servings left, and no rabbit, apparently they were very busy over the weekend and their delivery wasn't scheduled until later in the week. Good to know that they were busy, bad for me because I love escargot and while my friends got the last 2 servings and shared, I wanted more (hence 4 stars). All the entrees looked tasty. My steak au poivre was done to my liking, although there was a bit of gristle in parts of it (thought the steak was supposed to be filet mignon?). Still, it was tasty, as was the few bites of escargot. It was a little pricey, you would think there would be some type of dress code, but there wasn't, I assume that the lack of dress code makes it a more casual and fun dining experience on the weekend. I'll go again to try the roasted chicken (it looked fabulous) and the bouillabaisse, and they were both reportedly "very good". read more

We were greeted at our table with two bouquets of flowers as well as two hand written birthday cards from the restaurant. The food and drinks were incredible and so was our waitress, Bailey. This is now one of my favorite restaurants in NWA. It's so beautiful and service is amazing but the food is better! The chef knows what he is doing combining all of the flavors, I had scallops and they were the best I have ever had. My husband had beef bourguignon that he said was awesome. Don't miss the mashed potatoes, best ever. The carrots were good and so were Brussels sprouts but the main dishes and mashed potatoes were out of this world. Went to Bienvenue last night with a group of friends. We shared the Foie Gras and Pate appetizers and tried the French onion soup. All were excellent. Had the short ribs for dinner....also excellent. We ordered all of the desserts to share, and they were all excellent, but the crème Carmel was my favorite! Hung out after dinner on the bar side for a cocktail and it was very comfortable. The restaurant had a very nice ambience overall. Service was good and very friendly (still learning as it was a soft opening this week). Highly recommend it! read more

High attention to detail, from the ambience to the flowers left at my table for my birthday. It is so rare to find a restaurant that thinks of everything. What they didn't know is we had a table of foodies and former restaurant people and one fluent French speaker who knows her stuff. Adorable place and very attentive staff. Onto the food, I do think the short ribs were one of the best entrees (we sampled quite a bit) with a big table. However, if you are really hungry, pass on the cod dish. It was tiny, although tasty. When it says tortellini, keep in mind there is only one on the plate which was more like a ravioli. I was not be mad about the portion size, since I am generally a slow eater and was full before the entree arrived, but a few of my friends were disappointed. Yet, the other entrees were normal European portions (not huge American style which is good for me. In addition, the food is higher quality than many restaurants. The desserts were absolutely to die for, particularly creme caramel, but I can't say one bad thing about any of them. We tried them ALL. I am rooting for them and would absolutely recommend and will go again.
