Slightly crunchy outside but soft on the inside. The plain scones were equally amazing, but the clotted cream and jam really took them over the top for me. Just when I thought I couldn't eat anything else, we had a brownie that the group was sharing and those who had tried it insisted I have a bite. It was a collective statement that none of us had ever had a brownie so delicious. For drinks we had a variety of teas (chocolate tea, hot chocolate, etc.) and they were all wonderful. Service was a delight the entire time as well. The decor is one of a kind and every single detail had been thought out, from the framed pictures to the trinkets on display, to the seating and tablecloths. This place is a gem and I can not recommend it enough.

As for the food, we ordered a typical Full English Breakfast (or fry-up) and Eggs Benedict. I was especially delighted that American-style streaky bacon was served on the benedict. The plate was nicely presented and delicious. This was my only visit and from what I understand, the establishment has gone through numerous business changes, so I (sadly) wouldn't be surprised if it has transitioned again, but hopefully the food and service survive despite any differing names or management.

We first went into the gardens and it was very peaceful with a number of small ponds surrounded by well manicured lawns, trees, and a lot of borders with interesting grasses. At the end of the gardens is a woodland, more ponds and a lot of ducks and fish. I think the silence is a treasure in these sort of places. There is a small shop that leads to the nursery and next door is a cafe. You can see it all except the gardens for free. Overall, I think its a nice place to visit for peace and quiet.

The scones were lovely and the cakes and tarts... well, where on earth do you start?? The tea was good - we all had good old English breakfast. We did ask for more hot water, which did not materialize, but I think we were all done by then anyway. They will pack up the left-overs for you to take home without any fuss. They also have a nice little gift shop. Parking might be a challenge if school is in session and about to let out as there is only street parking and a school across the road.

John and his son Noel prepared a wonderful afternoon tea for 12 excited ladies to help celebrate my grandmother's 97th birthday. The food was scrumptious as well as beautifully presented.
