The evenings see boy racers congregate here unfortunately. Tesco's have some great offers, the bakery is very good and the selection very good. The Cafe since becoming a Costa's is too expensive which is a shame as I used to like a tea in there before or after shopping. There are seats past the checkouts which is a welcoming idea if you have to wait for someone. They are also pretty good with queue's, opening up cashouts when needed.

I have a very strong love for Rosy Lee's Tea Shop. We got caught in the snow during a cycle trip…read moreand just made a dash for the closest location, which to our great surprise and luck was Rosy Lee. Rosy Lee is such a kind lady and brought us hot water bottles to warm us up. The cake here is amazing. I initially wasn't going to have any cake, but my mother-in-law ordered the Victorian sponge cake. Her cake looked so amazing that I had to go ahead and get the Carrot cake. This was perhaps the best carrot cake that I have ever had as it was the perfect combination of sweet and savory! Rosy Lee's also does a whole range of food items from bigger meals to cakes all at a great price. While we were there, some men who were working on the road came in to get coffee and Rosy Lee put together a big food basket for them and let them have their coffees in mugs. Her customer service is incredible and I wish that London had places like this!

Caroline who runs this traditional cafe knows everything that is going on in the village and if she can do anything to help newcomers, including new businesses, she will do so, with a firm belief that independence is something to be retained wherever possible. Traditional cakes, tea and coffee await you at a very good price, together with proper meals if you want something more substantial. Situated right opposite the staithe, it has a lovely location if you have a couple of hours spare on a fine afternoon to go and feed the ducks and wander round a lovely village.

The cakes are home-made and very generously proportioned for a very reasonable £8-9. There is also a selection of elegantly boxed chocolate fudge cake, Turkish Delight etc., perfect to give as a gift. There is also some bold and bright nautically themed ceramics for sale too. The tea rooms themselves are fairly spacious, with an additional walled garden of outdoor seating, that I'm sure proves a honeypot during the summer season. The menu is fairly expansive with items such as sandwiches, slices of cake etc. We only had a coffee, but the huge slices of chocolate cake looked very tempting!. All the drinks at the Owl are Fair Trade, and served in substantial half glazed/unglazed cups and saucers.

I devoured my smoked salmon sandwiches, no dainty sarnies here though, they were full sized and chock with filling and 3 of em! Scones are big and light, the plain was very good, but the spiced fruit scone knocked our socks off, it was really delicious :) Now to the piece de resistance....CAKE. There are plenty to choose from, and they don't stint on the servings. While my friend plumped for the ginger and pear loaf which was still a healthy size, I went all in and ended up with a slice of Vicky sponge bigger than my outstretched hand, with cream and raspberry sauce elegantly dribbled all over. Be still my heart....it was a veritable feast, more challenging than a family Christmas dinner, and while I gave it my best and fell on it like a ravenous beast I was beaten by Vicky's sponge. I had a food baby the size of full term twins afterwards ;) Hee, hee...every bite was a delight.....and the calories don't count as I was on vacation. Even better there is a boutique tea store at the back of the restaurant that sells an eclectic range of hand blended teas. I bought an Earl Gray Fume which they blended right in front of me to the original recipe, and a Rose Chocolate Earl Gray which was delicious too. Perfect as a gift for someone special or just for yourself as a pick me up. Biddy's is located in the old town center with lots of shopping next door, and an old market a few steps away. This is a must on your Norwich visit. I'm just glad I don't live there or I would be Biddying every day and balloon to the the size of a hot air balloon...hahahaha.
