I visited Bicol Express in Fairfield and really enjoyed the experience. The food was good, comforting, and had that home-cooked feel -- exactly what you'd expect from authentic Filipino cuisine. If you're in the area and craving a meal that tastes like it came straight from a Filipino kitchen, this is definitely a spot worth trying. The service was great and the staff was very friendly, which made the visit even better. It's a restaurant and mini market. They have selection of Filipino items you can bring home! Overall, I'd rate Bicol Express a 5 out of 5 stars.

Pointed object found in the food

So I ordered something like Ground Beef (as pictured), monggo, beef steak.. We finished the 2 and just about to finish and reheat the one with the ground beef.. As reheated, I found something pointed object.. Just imagine since it is ground beef what if I didnt see it? Whose throat will get hurt? They should be really careful, it might be from their stocks / supplies when they open it goes to their pans or pots .. One star for them for this negligence

As a Bicolana, I was surprised and excited to see a local Filipino restaurant focusing on Bicolano cuisine. My mom and the rest of my family members are originally from Cam Sur in Bicol, Philippines, so I grew up eating a lot of the food they serve here. The food is quite good. Tapsilog is one of my favorite breakfast meals to eat, so of course I had to order it. It comes with garlic fried rice, egg, and delicious & tender marinated beef. They give a good serving of it, so you'll definitely be satisfied after eating it. I also ordered Ginataang Langka, which is jackfruit in coconut milk and fermented shrimp paste (bagoong), another personal favorite of mine. Although the ginataang langka was good, I still prefer my aunt and uncle's homemade ginataang langka. Lastly, I ordered Shanghai Lumpia for my daughter to try. Their Shanghai lumpia is very good! Overall, my mom, daughter, and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals from Bicol Express. I look forward to eating here again!

Catering Menu Good for catering especially since not a lot of options around the area

Food is good. Service at tine of order and payment for catering was good. However I think they might not have good systems in place. I pre-paid for over $300+ of catering order so my husband will have no issues picking up. They said I wouldn't need the receipt so I opted not to get a receipt but when my husband went for pick up they tried charging him again -- had to send him my bank charge with $300+ for the catering order. They need to make sure to mark it as PAID IN FULL or tell me to bring receipt (like I said they told me I wouldn't need it). My husband was stuck there for like half an hour sorting out my order eventually we did get it but not a good experience!

Apparently, this place has changed its name to Bicol Express. I think they should update it across all search engines. So, the lady confirmed it used to be Nayong Pilipino. I decided to get bangus (milkfish) sisig which already came with rice. I also tried their kakanin combo of suman (a type of sweet glutinous rice), ube halaya (ube jam) and flan. Both were delicious! I regret not getting condiments for the sisig but it was seasoned well. The kakanin wasn't too sweet so that was appreciated. Prices were reasonable. They also have a mini grocery store which was fun to browse. There's not really a place to eat so I got my food to go. I'll be back!

Bicol Express is a small turo-turo "point-point"restaurant where you can point out which food items you want to order to dine in or for to go. Some of my recommendations are the pork sisig, menudo, and giniling. The menu changes daily but the rotation is pretty consistent. There are a few aisles of Filipino snacks and grocery items which is super convenient for when you are on the go. Portion sizes are pretty big in my opinion. This is not your fancy sit-down type of restaurant but a no-frills spot for Filipino dishes.

What I've liked the best about this place - which has changed names a few times over the years, is the lumpia. You can call 5 min before you want to leave to pick it up and it will be ready. Great for potlucks and hosting. The food counter has not been as appetizing as I'm not a big fan of cafeteria style - you don't know how long it has been sitting or not. Fair that I should try it at least once - maybe that will be my update. The restaurant isn't the most tidy / esthetically pleasing so that's not the most inviting. The market is newer with the most recent name change, and it's nice to have, but it's a smaller variety of processed/packaged/frozen food, no produce. Last time I went I browsed the market and left with a few things, including a juice. Still solid for lumpia and in my neighborhood, but I probably would go elsewhere for Filipino hot dishes. Five stars for the lumpia, 3 for the rest, so four stars.

The skin had that perfect crisp and crackle, and the meat was juicy, tender, and packed with flavor. Easily one of the best pork experiences you'll find anywhere. Hubby found this restaurant and so we drove to the place. First thing you'll notice once you enter the restaurant is the warm temp inside - no AC but they have electric fans going on. To the right is a long shelf with a variety grocery items while the table seating is laid out in the center. TV was tuned in to a channel playing a Filipino movie. This is a "turo-turo" style food ordering, meaning no table service instead you go to where the dishes are cooked in large portions (which is towards the back of the restaurant) and you choose which ones you want. We ordered: Pork Sinigang - a little too sour for me but this is a classic Filipino soup with pork ribs, vegetables, and tamarind broth. Bistek (beef steak) - thin slices of marinated beef before smothered in a deeply savory sauce and topped with golden-seared onions Pork Adobo - classic Filipino dish of pork simmered in vinegar, soy sauce, and garlic Kaldereta - goat meat stew I didn't try the kaldereta but all the other dishes were good and delicious. You will definitely feel the Filipino hospitality here. Street parking. Maraming salamat! Review #3929

Just note, though it's called an oriental market, which is technically accurate, to be more specific this place is a Filipino spot, takeout food and the mini market wares included. Parking is pretty easy to find here even though it may not look it from the front, but there is parking to the side of the building and also in the back if needed, so keep that in mind, but most likely won't need to really use the back. While the place is actually decently sized, just note that the shelves are pretty bare and there's just not much actually on those shelves. Maybe just 1-3 bags of each item, and there's not many items there. Looking at past pictures, this may just be how it is now, but just be aware, it's less market now and probably more of just a takeout food place as that seems to be more of a focus here. They have a small selection of dishes which they told me they rotate every so often as far as specific dishes in the spots. There's not a huge selection, and if I were to compare it, I'd say their selection of food is about the same as if you went to Mama Lumpia's counter and that's basically where they're at. Not too much to choose from, so just know this going in if you're planning to takeout something. Pricing wise for the food, it's not too bad, but will be more expensive than some of the other options around, especially with it being takeout. But they do a good job stuff the container to the top, so that's a bit more helpful at least. Not expensive for Filipino food. Some of the stuff looked good, as I will go back and try some of them in the future, but today I decided to just go with the adobo pork. I feel the adobo pork was just okay. The flavors actually weren't too bad, and the meat was pretty tender and not dry, but the fat part I feel could have been cooked a bit more as it was too chewy for my liking, and not the best pork belly I've ever had for sure, and certainly not from a Filipino place. But again, portions were good. Will I be back? I can say I'm interested. As far as a market goes, it's really not much there, or at least not much there nowadays compared to pictures of the old, so probably wouldn't be my first option for market stuff when there's 99 Ranch and Seafood City around. Would I come back for the food takeout? That is probably more likely as I am interested in how their lumpia is, and perhaps try some of their pancit, or even the spaghetti which they didn't have on that particular day. See you around Oriental Market.
