Such a cute little cafe!! Just stopped in to have a coffee and try their toasts and it didn't disappoint. Very flavorful and fun food options that you don't see everywhere. Everyone is very nice and it feels very homey and cozy here!
Nice little coffee shop with some tasty bites and quality espresso. They have a good amount of outdoor seating, but beware the blue metal tables get hot and it's easy to accidentally spill your coffee. My buddy did it twice lol. I got the cortado and it was pretty good. The espresso was a little mild for my taste. I also got the whipped PB&J toast. It was good. I was expecting a more whipped texture to the peanut butter but it was still good. I mean it's peanut butter lol the jam was not too sweet and complimented the bread and peanut butter.
Came in on a Friday morning this time, it was a little busy around 10am but the line wasn't too bad. Ordered a breakfast bagel and a chai latte, both good options.
Super cute coffee shop in normal heights with outdoor seating! I had an acquaintance rave about this place so I had to try it! The service was very friendly and the food came out quick! They have regular coffee and then seasonal lattes. I got the seasonal lemon lychee latte which was delicious, not too sweet ! As for the food, they have different toasts and then a few sandwiches. I got the tuna and it was delicious, just the right amount of lemon and the bread was crispy. My friend got the whipped PB which was really fun! Overall a great place to sit outside and enjoy a coffee and snack :)
A solid coffee shop! This place serves Paru matcha and coffee beans from Dune Coffee, which is a huge plus. The espresso‑based drinks and matcha are great. They have a small counter where you order, and there's usually a line -- sometimes it takes a bit to get your drink, but it's worth the wait. They also have an outdoor patio, which is a nice spot to sit. Their menu includes fresh, local, ingredient‑forward dishes and a nice wine selection that I haven't tried yet. Overall, a great spot for matcha, coffee, and a relaxed vibe.
I hate coming here. When Bica first opened in our neighborhood we loved trying different drinks and items on the menu, enjoying their unique twists on everything and their delicious pastries and sandwiches. Sometimes it can be a hit or miss, as with most places that have more of an experimental approach, but lately I've been leaving Bica just regretting coming and wishing i had gone somewhere else for my morning routine. The staff will 100% prioritize their friends that walk into the coffee shop, over customers. This has happened many times where I'll walk in, place an order, then notice 5 people behind me in line getting their drinks before me simply because they're high-fiving and hugging the owners or baristas. I've waited 30-45 min for an iced tea while 10 people get their coffees who ordered after me because I'm not sure if it's easier to make 10 coffees in a row then stop your flow to make an iced tea, but they definitely don't make the drinks in order here which is so frustrating on top of the long lines. Bica is such a scene now it's more trouble than it's worth.
Solid first visit. The service is super friendly from each employee I encountered. Ordered the Honey Sea Salt Latte. Overall good and woke me up. Took about 10 min. Nice outdoor space. Can see myself coming back while in the area
Outdoor space! This is a nice chill hipster spot very much needed on Adams Ave with lunch tables on a patio. I had a cappuccino and it had very strong espresso taste which was great, good coffee here. The strawberry ricotta bread was good but a bit expensive at $13 for it being a snack size. I appreciated the grandma plate and the baristas bringing it out of me so I didn't have to get up. Great for catching up with friends or a short WFH session, will def be back!
I've heard great things about their tuna sandwhich so I had to come try it myself. Hands down one of the best tuna sandwhiches I've ever had! I think they bake their own bread and it was so delicious. I love that the tuna and tapenade complement each other really well.
Service was good but the food was overpriced and was not very good. I got a chopped salmon toast with cream cheese I think. My bf got the toast with the fish eggs. The salmon was fishy and the fish eggs were salty. Overhyped for sure.
This "little cafe" with adjoining -- often overly praised -- outdoor patio is always bustling, even many a chef are buzzing about it. Which I just do not understand. They have specialty toasts which are made from "fresh" ingredients and are presented very prettily, but with expensive price tags, high quality ingredients aside. Inside, they sell specialty tuna, trout, and sardines in tins. Their only menu item with any trace of sustenance, the Tuna Sandwich, is likely made from this tinned tuna. For $17, it should have been extraordinary, but it was quite simple and unexciting. They have intriguing coffee products, namely a lemon lychee vanilla latte, but with barely a trace of said ingredients. I gave them another try as a potential place to get work done but many a digital nomad inundate the place and just... linger. They select the multi-person benches as the only seating in the shade too. A bad look upon first observation, but the smaller tables are always in the sun, so I get it, I guess. Patio, again, is way overly praised because it's not practical whatsoever with all the terrible seating options. Adding the equally terrible parking, makes this cafe simply not worth a visit.

We chose got a tea and coffee, but I don't remember the names LOL. The salmon lox was really good and I got to try my friends sandwich as well. There was plenty of meat and the baguette was the perfect texture. Since it was a warm day, there were lots of flies buzzing around, so it made it a bit difficult to enjoy our food. I would love to come back and try their other menu items!
Hole in the wall coffee and breakfast spot. Super fresh tasting house cured lox. The tartine has everything you'd expect out of a lox bagel but instead of a bagel it's their delicious, thick cut bread. You can buy the bread by the loaf. Salted honey latte was tasty. There was a line at 9am on Sunday morning but it didn't take long to receive my order. I'll be back to try their sandwiches and wines. Worth the stop! read more

If you're in Normal Heights and want some good coffee + a little snack, check out this place This cute little spot has great coffee, teas, and seriously good food. I've already been twice in two weeks The squash salad is light, fresh, and perfect for a hot day -- especially with their iced oolong tea with a little sugar. They're known for their sandwiches/tartines, and my bf loved the tuna tartine. Very messy, but very good I was sad they were out of the smoked salmon sandwich bites, so I got the avocado toast instead. Still SO good with a little tanginess and seasoning that made it anything but boring. Definitely coming back to try more! read more
Cute & trendy coffee shop/ restaurant in Normal Heights. They have a beautiful side patio - no indoor seating. The staff were friendly and helpful, and service was quick. I ordered the sea salt & honey matcha - this was excellent, and the yogurt bowl with seasonal fruit. The yogurt bowl was incredibly fresh with peaches, strawberry rhubarb, and herbs. They have water and dog trats up front, so bring your pup :-) read more

Think I'm kind of just over this place now. They only sell giant pastries and small coffees. I'd rather it be the other way around. I don't want to pay $6 for a huge carrot cake that three people can share or $4 for a small coffee. Can you please make smaller loaves for $4 instead and sell a large coffee for like $4.50? I don't know. But I go to a coffee shop for coffee. Not overwhelming amounts of pastry. Please reconsider your food and drink portion/sizes. read more

Cute little coffee shop right on Adams! The guy who took my order and my waitress was super nice. I ordered the honey sea salt latte, vanilla matcha with Meyer lemon cold foam, and the tuna sandwich. The coffee was yummy, decent for the price. The matcha was not for me, i didn't enjoy the type of matcha that was used and I was sitting outside in the shade and it started to curdle. The Meyer lemon cold foam was yummy on its own, i wish i ordered it with my coffee instead. The tuna sandwich is delicious but it only comes à la carte. Would have been great with a pickle or some pickled red onions. I saved half and ate it later at home retoasted, with pickles and chips 8.7/10 for the tuna sandwich! read more
Came across this spot while walking around the neighborhood and was immediately drawn to the huge outdoor seating area. There aren't any indoor tables, but the outdoor setup is spacious and inviting. I ordered a latte, which was good. There was also a DJ playing music outside, I'm not sure if it was a special event or just part of the regular vibe. In the backyard, there was a small cart selling chicken noodle soup that looked very popular as well. read more
I popped into Bica on an early Saturday afternoon for a solo brunch and I was NOT disappointed! Both my hot latte (honey sea salt) and my iced latte (orange cardamom) were absolutely phenomenal. And don't pass up their food options! I had the Tuna Conserva sandwich - best tuna sandwich I've had in my life! Featuring local albacore, roasted peppers, mayo, green olive tapenade, and lemony arugula. 13/10 recommend! Service was excellent despite a bit of a line, and super chill vibes, even sitting at a table on the sidewalk. I'm looking forward to returning. :) read more

Cool coffee shop! There is a DJ in the back and the place was popping on a Sunday morning. Tried their lemon lychee latte, didn't taste the lychee at all but the drink itself was smooth and super tasty. I liked the light lemon hint. The honey sea salt was also fantastic! read more

The coffee here is really delicious! I got a honey sea salt latte and was surprised at how smooth the coffee was, and they got the mild sweetness just right with that hint of honey. Service was fast and friendly, ambiance was casual but inviting. Street parking only. The patio area was shaded and it was really nice to enjoy the warm weather outside. My friend got the orange cardamom latte and really enjoyed her drink as well. I tried the salmon and black radish kimchi tartine- it was beautifully presented and had an interesting combination of flavors. I can't say it was really delicious, but it wasn't bad either. I'd try some of their other sandwiches next time if I'm hungrier! The ingredients themselves were good quality. read more
I am a big fan of Bica. I ordered a hot Lemon lychee vanilla latte. It sounded so unique, I had to get it. It was tasty and not too sweet. The flavor combo is perfect. I didn't taste the lychee, but the vanilla and lemon really stood out. I'd order it cold next time. Matcha seems popular here too. For food, I went with the ricotta tartine. Oh my gosh. It was heavenly. I love how thick the bread is, the ricotta was creamy, not too cheesy. All of the ingredients used were fresh and balanced well together. It did take a while to get my coffee, but there was only one barista at the time. Ambiance is cute and quaint. There's only outside seating available. Free street parking as well. read more

Mondays are industry night at Bica and wow, it was amazing! Bica also has dinner service in the summer and they host other events on their patio. The barista was so friendly and kind. We got teas and coffees to pair with our food from Ming Ouns kitchen (the Monday vendor feature) and we enjoyed our food on the outside patio. Vibes were immaculate and we can't wait to be back for their morning and evening hours for Bica. They also have a little pantry with wine and other items. Street parking wasn't terrible on a Monday night. read more
We try to support local businesses, but sad to say Bica was pretty disappointing. For a neighborhood spot, the pricing is not local friendly. Looking for simple items, we ordered the bread & butter ($11) and ricotta tartine ($13). I'm guessing the toaster is calibrated for the thicker slices of bread because the thin ones came out completely burnt but they still served it to us. The tartine was fine, from pictures I thought it would be two pieces but was one thick slice. Bread is from a bakery, not house made. Perhaps it'd be better to stick to their more elaborate items like lox or sandwiches. Coffee was the saving grace of our breakfast. However we saw a drink that was given to the wrong table for a couple minutes, which was then taken by an employee and just handed to the person who ordered it?! I don't feel that was very sanitary. Tipping starts at 20%, but kind of regretted tipping over that when its self serve and bus your own table. read more

I definitely love this little coffee shop they have a nice little patio area to enjoy as well, which is perfect for beautiful weather. The staff is always friendly too. I will say today I was disappointed they didn't have the tartine with lox that I was craving but the latte was delicious and would definitely recommend it. read more

I always love finding a new coffee shop when meeting up with friends for a weekday coffee date! I tend to avoid this area because of parking, but it was no problem at 9am mid week. Bica is a cute coffee shop. They have a curated menu with all the regular options. I got a matcha latte. They offer a limited number of pastries in the morning. They also have a little grocery section with refrigerated and dry goods. Seating is all outside, so plan to go when the weather is good (which is almost all the time in SD). read more

I dropped by Bica with a couple friends on a Saturday morning. As expected of a cute little coffee shop in San Diego, it was pretty busy. You'll have to street park, but it's actually not too bad (and this is coming from someone who dreads street parking). DRINKS/FOOD: I have to preface that I'm not a coffee drinker. I was just tagging along with people who are. (lol) Paru Loose Leaf Tea (3/5) - There are many flavors to choose from. I got lemon lychee flavor and selected the iced option. It was just okay. You'll taste some hints of lychee but I don't think it would blow anyone away. There was so much ice that it kinda felt like I ordered ice with a side of tea. Size was also smaller than expected for $6. Chocolate Miso Loaf (4/5) - I got this because I was enticed by how delicious it looked behind the glass. It was moist and came with chocolate chunks. Not sure if I tasted miso or what miso is even supposed to taste like when paired with chocolate, but I enjoyed it. It was definitely pricey ($6) for a pretty small loaf sliver...so despite me liking it, I probably wouldn't get it again unless I got a raise or something. Worth mentioning that my friends enjoyed the honey sea salt latte. SERVICE: (5/5) Super kind staff! Had a pleasant time ordering. The vibes were super nice. They'll call out your name when your items are ready. If you're seated in their cute patio area, they bring your order to your table. TLDR// Cute place but really pricey. Can't speak on the coffee and would skip the tea next time. I'd come back just for the great service and the pleasant atmosphere in their patio area to chitchat with friends. read more

My favorite neighborhood coffee shop. This place is cute, has great food and drinks, and outdoor seating fitting for catching up with a friend or working on things. I am a big fan of their toasts. The ricotta toast and avocado toasts are a light and healthy way to start the morning. Would highly recommend checking out this place if you're in the area. I try to make a visit every time I'm in normal heights. read more

Loved it! There was a line out the door when we came on a Mon for lunch but it moved pretty quickly. You order inside and they bring your food and drinks out to you. No indoor seating, all outdoor on their partially covered patio or in some small two person tables in the front of the shop. They were out of a couple tartines by the time we got there but I was still able to try a couple. My friend and I split the ricotta and the whipped tahini tartine. They're a little pricey for not a huge size but they were high quality. That day the jam was a citrus jam and it was a nice contrast to the rich ricotta. It didn't eat overly sweet. The whipped tahini tartine was such a good combination of textures and flavors. The pistachios and pomegranate seeds were my favorite part. read more
