Goat's cheese with black olives & red pepper salsa

I honestly thought I was missing out having never crossed the threshold of this somewhat legendary Glasgow restaurant. Everyone I'd spoken to told me, with beaming smiles, how good their food was. So Bibi's ¿que pasó? As it was Cinco de Mayo (the Mexican St Patrick's) a few of us sat down for cervezas, food & margaritas. After a pretty tough day, I was really hungry & in need for a cold Dos Equis or Pacifico Clara, so I thought Bibi's was the perfect choice. First off, the restaurant seems to have been done out an old Mexican farmhouse, but it seems to have seen better days (in the same way that Gambrino was classic Italian, before its refit). The restaurant is really quite small with around tables, you get the feeling that you could bang elbows with the people around you quite easily. The group behind me was quite noisy towards the end of our visit, which made it hard to have a conversation (although admittedly I am fairly quiet). Having got caught in the rain & walked in dripping wet, I was quite chuffed to find a complimentary Margarita waiting for me after returning from drying off (thanks!) I chose a starter of goats cheese with black olives red pepper, with sweet pepper jam. It was presented breaded and fried, looking a bit like an escalope, with a small mixed leaf salad. It was really quite nice, the cheese was warm, but not scalding hot, the crumb looked a little overdone, but was actually spot on, the problem was that the dressing on the salad & the pepper jam tasted like they were out've a bottle, the salad dressing especially was overly vinegary & punchy. For my main course I chose a Veggie burrito with a side of Guacamole. When it arrived, the burrito looked pretty small & the Guac was even smaller. The burrito was served on a bed of rice which was described as being done in the Puebla style, but it was tasteless and made with carrots and peas, it was more like boil in the bag rice than anything else. The burrito was decent, but not really worth £10 on its own. The whole plate lacked flavour, apart from another helping of the super vinegary mixed leaves. The Guacamole, oh dear god, it was just wrong! No tomato, no chilli, little citrus but celery? Guacamole is Mexico's gift to the world and this little bowl was an afront to the idea. Although it was only £1.50 as a side, such a small serving should've been included with the main course. I had such high hopes for Bibi's and honestly, I came away a little upset, for around £20 I felt pretty full, but not convinced I'd had a night in a restaurant often held in such high regard. Oh Bibi's why you gotta do me like that?

I can't believe I haven't already reviewed bibis, as it is one of my favourite places to eat in Glasgow. It's a wee hidden gem at the bottom of Dumbarton road. It is small so try and book in plenty of advance as it can be a busy little place. I love bibis as it never let's you down. Their pre theatre menu is amazing and at £11.95 for 2 courses great value. When you arrive you are given a shot of frozen Margarita. The place is small and cosy and the staff are friendly and fun. My fav thing to have is the deep fried jalapeños filled with cream cheese.. Be warned some can be much hotter than others. For mains I have the shredded pork dish which is really tasty..

Like the walking cliché that I am, I wanted to eat Mexican food on Cinco de Mayo. So original, right? Well, whatever, Mexican food is awesome all year round and this gave me the excuse to try Bibi's - something I'd been meaning to do for ages. We booked a table for dinner. Once we were seated we were handed complimentary nachos with a good, fresh, spicy salsa. Oh, and they also gave us a shot of frozen Margarita each. This is important because it lead to a great discovery: You can have a pitcher of frozen Margarita for £14.95. How could we resist? So, we ordered that, a Mexican sharer platter for a starter, the beef burrito and the chicken mole. Bibi's was busy, people who showed up without bookings were disappointed. However, it never felt hectic, we were perfectly relaxed (possibly something to do with the cocktails) and never felt hassled for our table by the staff. The restaurant is small but perfectly formed and perfectly managed. The starter was great, and a brilliant way to try a bunch of different flavours. Even my usually very fussy partner got stuck in. The mains were similarly delicious, my chicken mole came with two large juicy chicken breasts and a rich mole sauce, as well as small tortilla wraps, rice and salad. How did we wait until Cinco de Mayo to visit Bibi's? Now I can't wait to go back.

It has taken me forever to get over to Bibi's and try what I believe is the only Mexican place in town that I haven't visited. Well, that's remedied now! I was impressed to be handed a gluten free menu on request - apparently the owner is gluten free so the restaurant is really accommodating. Awesome news for me! I was really happy to see a gluten free option for jalapeno poppers (called chilli rellenos here, but this New Mexican knows chile rellenos to be a totally different dish.) They were really good and not crazy hot. For my main, I went for the steak fajitas. Now, they did accidentally bring me actual flour tortillas to start, but luckily I realized they were too good to be true (gluten free). I double checked and they took away the gluten and brought back gluten free wraps instead. I was less wowed by the fajitas; the meat could have used a bit more seasoning. The peppers and onions were nicely caramelized and the side of sour cream, salsa and cheese was the perfect size for the amount of meat and tortillas I had. I didn't manage to try a margarita (it was lunchtime) but I'll be sure to check them out next time. What a great find in walking distance from Partick station!

Let me just say that overall I really enjoyed this place. However, being from Texas and growing up with both authentic Mexican food and TexMex, I have some pretty high standards. So when I ordered vegetarian enchiladas and they came out looking like an Italian dish (even coming with a side of bread instead of beans or rice) I was a little surprised. My friend ordered the same and after trying the dish, we both felt that it tasted like spicy lasagna. Now let me just say - I thoroughly enjoyed it and ate the whole thing, including the side of bread....but it tasted nothing like enchiladas. The cheese was not quite what you'd expect and the sauce tasted like spaghetti sauce. But like I said, it tasted pretty darn good to me. My boyfriend seemed to order the right thing - he had a chimichanga and a quesadilla appetizer. Both of those dishes looked relatively authentic and apparently tasted great (I'm a vegetarian so I didn't get to taste them). When I go back, and yes I plan on going back - I am going to check out the vegetarian fajitas or possibly a quesadilla. This place has a very inviting atmosphere and the staff is super nice. I was more than happy to come in here and eat the chips and salsa that they put out when you first arrive. So overall I say its a winner, but if you are looking for authentic Mexican food, maybe don't order the vegetarian enchiladas.

To quote my Dad, "I can't believe I am eating outside at such a nice restaurant on Dumbarton Road." Context, Dad lived in Glasgow as a student many many many moons ago. He had flown in that morning from abroad and wanted a quick but nice dinner as close to my flat as possible. Bibi's ticked all this bizarre criteria. I did warn him, that we might not get a table due to the size of the place. I was right, but it was a pleasant enough evening so we decided to sit outside. This soon resulted in the other 4 tables also being occupied! Great business for Bibi's as extra covers, and people are always attracted to busy places. We both ordered the blonde beer, and I got to have both of the baby margaritas. I think it's such a nice idea to over a sample, as well as enticing people to order a full-size one. One day I definitely will be. The salsa and chips were so fresh, causing us to order an extra plate (#greedy). For mains, I had a beef burrito, extra spicy with guacamole and my Dad had mixed chicken and beef fajitas, with guacamole. We like our avocado okay.. The burrito was good, but not spicy, although I do have a high spice tolerance. Saying that, it was well spiced and the guacamole was again really fresh. Dad's fajitas had so many components we had to pull the table next to us over! The staff were really accommodating of us doing this and for the fact my Dad wanted both beef and chicken in his fajita. Only recently have I discovered the phrase Mexi-can't. It was introduced to me by a Mexican friend who explained that it's used to describe the neverending stream of overseas Mexican restaurants that spectacularly fail to produce dishes comparable to their homeland. This constitutes "nearly all of them", apparently. Well, Mexicans, I've got news for you. While you've been busy mocking the UK's feeble attempts to produce authentic cuisine, Glasgow nipped in and claimed a place of its own. Bibi's on Dumbarton Road is a small but perfectly formed restaurant with fantastic variety on the menu. The speciality is, naturally, the fajitas, with the tequila-marinated beef a particular favourite of mine. Perhaps the only downside of the restaurant is part of the appeal, with the venue so small that often elbow room can be at a minimum. For those who embrace this, it can create a more intimate atmosphere. Furthermore it also helps for a subtle dunt in the ribs of any Mexican guests who tries the food here and still claims it's a "Mexi-can't".

Ok, so this place has been reviewed a wee bit and the concensus is good. I'm not really covering new ground here. But after the jazziest wrap I've ever tasted, my stomach has taken hostage of my brain and I have to add to the commendations! I passed by Bibi's with a gurgling belly and a sun-sleepy head, not expecting to find such a gorgeous restaurant this close to the motorway. There're some lovely shops along here and small coffee houses, but Bibi's jumped out at me with its airy, classy exterior and upmarket look. Before I knew it I was browsing the takeaway menu, deliberating whether or not to burn some cash on even more food (I'm a bit of a hungry hippo ya see)! I made the good choice when I unwittingly missed my bus - oops - and the smell sunctioned me in. Not only is this gorgeously decorated, but it's super chilled out and the staff are so friendly compared to - well, most places I've ever been, actually. I opted for a gorgeous wrap with feta, spinach, fajita chicken, creme fraiche and just about everything good about this world spilling out of it. I devoured it like I'd been stranded on a desert island with no sandwiches for a week, and have to say it was bloody delicious. So I may be adding to an array of praise, but the good words about Bibi's stand as an indication of its quality. I took my bus speeding by me as a divine sign to enter - take note of these reviews and do the same!

First time here and was craving Mexican. The place was cute and small but was quite busy for one o'clock on a Thursday but we got a table straight away. The girl serving looked run off her feet but was very friendly and attentive. My husband and I opted for the meatball and tortilla tomato soup to share as we didn't want to fill ourselves too much but wanted to try this soup before our nachos and it was delicious. The meatballs are delicious and this is coming from someone who makes a mean meatball. The soup itself was tasty if a little Heinz tomato soup esk. Both of is got the loaded nachos to share which hit the spot, delicious tasty and enough toppings. I had the house wine too which was nice, I can only drink dry white and this was easy to drink. I would recommend here for a bite to eat but will try other Mexican restaurants before returning. read more

Me and my boyfriend visited Bibi's the other week. It was a Wednesday evening and i had been advised by a friend to book a table as it gets busy. I hadnt heard of this place before, its situated quite far up Dumbarton road and i think they get most there custom through word of mouth. We arrived around 7.30 and i was really surprised by how busy it was, its a small intimate little restaurant, with candles on the tables and nice warm surroundings. The girl who served us was pleasent and took us to our table straight away and gave us our menus, she then came back a few minutes later with 2 small shots of frozen margarita and a basket of tortilla chips and homemade salsa all complimentary. For starters we had the fish cakes and stuffed jalapeno peppers to share, they were both fantastic and the portions were perfect for a starter. We both chose the beef burrito's for a main which came with a side salad, and we ordered patatas bravas as a side.Again these were delish and packed full of flavour, the bravas was also really nice and it was a large portion. We went for a bottle of the house wine - white, i also enjoyed, it was fruity and went well with our food. Overall the whole dining experince was pleasent and the food fantastic, as its a small family run restaurant i liked the attention to detail and it seemed so much more intimate than that of any other mexican in glasgow.Definetley one to try!!! read more

After eating here my 'inny' belly button is now an 'outie' one. Pushed it to the max and still couldn't finish my main course. Cozy wee place, food that puts a smile on your face, and although the frozen margarita comes out of a slush machine I was more than happy with everything. read more

The food is so delicious here and the service is wonderful also. It's a really small, warm cute restaurant with a lovely homely feel. It's also in a place where there aren't many other good restaurants so for me it's a bit of a gem in Partick. The Mexican style food feels authentic and freshly made, it's also creative as it's not just your standard fajitas! My only criticism is I always leave feeling fit to burst! I can never finish my meal and I hate leaving food on my plate. The portions are really big and as a girl I find there's lots of carbs involved (fajitas, rice, tortilla chips etc etc), my boyfriend loves that aspect of the place though!! All in all yummy wholesome food that I always enjoy. read more

Finally, I ventured down to Bibis. I love that you get a shot of frozen margarita when you sit down! My friend had booked a table and we were seated in the right hand corner - if you carry a big handbag, well, there's not much space to put it anywhere (mind you, the entire restaurant is tiny and you're very close to the people at the next table... but that is part of the charm of Bibi's). It was also a little unfortunate that there was a dust rag just sitting on the bench next to me. We ordered from the early bird dinner menu, where you get 2 courses for £11.50 or 3 courses for £14.00. We both decided to go for a main and a desert, although I loved the look of the starters. My friend ordered the shredded pork, and after much deliberation, I went for the spicy steak and onion tacos. They were very tasty. Not spicy in any sense, but tasty. My massive bother about it, however, is the mess that is made when you're eating them. There were juices running down my hands, sauce over my face, at one point I'm sure there was something on my glasses too - I know this makes me sound like a clumsy and messy eater, but I can promise you, there was no other way. I didn't enjoy it... but it was tasty. In the end there was so much steak and cheese and stuff on my plate that I ended up mixing the rice and the steak and stuff together. That was really tasty, and tidy to eat. After this, I was absolutely stuffed. For desert, I felt like something refreshing and light - so I decided to go for the fruit margarita sorbet. I thought it was going to be similar to the margarita shot I had at the beginning of the meal. It was not. Even now, when I think about it, I am ludicrously disappointed by this "sorbet". It was not a sorbet. If anything, it was more like a snow cone or granita. Maybe I am a snob, who knows. But also, a sorbet to me, has to be smooth in texture and refreshing in taste - a palate cleanser, if you will? Dear Lord, it was the sweetest thing I have ever eaten. I couldn't finish it. Please do not order it. My friend ordered the cinnamon and honey tortilla chips, and they were nice. But again, in no way were we able to finish it. Finally, we ordered a peppermint tea. It was not fresh peppermint tea (disappointing), but it did come with some of the best tablet I have ever had (see, I like sweet things, just not that not-sorbet thing!). To conclude, I have to knock off a star purely because of the dessert. Sorry. read more

Been here loads of times and always love going back. Great service, great value, very friendly staff and a complimentary frozen margarita on arrival. Quite a small restaurant but always busy - I would reccommend booking ahead too, just to avoid disappointment! Fajita's are gorgeous. read more

My first visit to Bibi's was a fantastic experience. The staff couldnt have been nicer or more helpful, even when I spilt the jug of yummy Margarita, it was mopped up with a smile and refilled immediately.. The food itself was fab, starting with the poppers, best I have tasted since NYC and the Fajitas were very good too. I've tried to visit on two occassions so really best to book. I wil certainly be booking again soon. read more

The food is great but the service needs a little more effort. Seem to be very unsure of their opening hours. Went on a Friday at 8 and told they were closing soon, went the following night at 7.15 and told the same. The following Saturday I was passing after 9 and surprised to see them open but was told they didn't have a table till ten! read more

After reading a few reviews on yelp my wife and I thought we'd check this place out. Well weren't we pleasantly surprised. The minute we walk in the door the smell was amazing, the staff were right over asking us how many the table was for sitting us down right away. Once we had sat down the waitress was over offering us a complimentary frozen Marguerite, which wasn't too my taste but my wife liked it so much she ordered one with her meal. My wife started with the chilli rollenos which are jalapeños stuffed with cheese and a salsa on top which where phenomenal and I had the chilli beef nachos which have got to be the best nachos I have tried in Glasgow. After finishing the starter the staff cleared the table and we where left for a couple of minutes before the main was brought out which I like coz there is nothing worse than getting your mains right away its nice to let things settle first. For the mains my wife had the taco shells and what a meal that was you get 3 taco shells filled with a selection of your fillings. My wife had the pork in smokey chipolty sauce which in our minds was the best of the three but the others were just as tasty as she had the chicken fajita and the beef chilli in the other two. The chicken was lovely and the beef chilli was sweet and very tasty. This is not a meal for the faint hearted, you'll have to be hungry for this one as the portion is huge but very satisfying. I had the burrito with salsa rice which was stunning. I'm not much of a fan of rice with chilli but if I have to have rice again with my chilli then the salsa rice in bibi's is the best I've tasted as for the chilli I'd say if you want the tastiest chilli in Glasgow then go to bibi's. Possibly my favourite Restaurant in G-Town! Go at least twice a month as it's the mutts nuts! Always go for the early bird menu as at around £13.50 for three courses you can't go wrong.The fajitas are da bomb,fish of the day in a spicy rub with rice and bread,love love love! The staff are always so friendly and welcoming and the frozen margaritas are to die for! Got a jug for myself the last time! Sometimes I'm not feeling up for a sweet so the last time I went I was aloud to have two starters instead! Can't sing Bibis praises enough! Go then go again and again! I'm going this Saturday with a group of friends for my Birthday!x read more

I visited Bibi's with my family last week and I was very impressed! As soon as we entered we were greeted with a dish filled with tortilla chips and salsa as well as a margarita shot. I opted for the deep fried chilli starter which was spicy and delicious with some cool yoghurt to cool it down! The fish of the day was a lovely main course with yummy Mexican rice leaving plenty of space for cinnamon tortilla chips for pudding! I will definitely be back! read more

I used to live in Partick so had been to this place when it first opened a couple of times and always loved it, so decided to go back on Sunday for lunch. Now that I have a baby I wasn't sure if they were child friendly but I needn't have been worried, they had plenty of highchairs, even though it is just a tiny wee restaurant. They do a great deal of 2 courses for £8.95 on their lunchtime menu (the menu is all Mexican food), I think it was £10.95 for 3 courses but we were too full to attempt a sweet! The set menu had plenty of choice on it and if we were worried that for such a good price the portions were going to be smaller then we needn't have been, my partner is a big rugby player and he couldn't even finish his main course. The food was all delicious and came out quickly but not so quickly that you would be dubious about how it had been prepared, and also had the benefit of a good childrens menu that had more then just the normal chicken nuggets and chips.The service was great, it was just one lady serving and although they were not full, there was enough tables to keep her running about but she did so very efficiently and cheerfully. The atmosphere is always very chilled out and relaxed in here and you feel very welcome. I remember coming one time when there was a wee man singing Mexican songs playing his guitar, which was quite funny, don't know if he still makes an appearance or not! read more

Traveling through Scotland we've been amazed at all the Mexican food restaurants. After a terrible plate of natchos, we've avoided them until last night. The lure of a margarita brought us in to this place that serves water out of Jose Cuervo bottles. The ambiance was lively and had the bright ceramics of our home town neighbor. Ben, our waiter, was wonderful-calmly dealing with our concerns and bringing us dishes one at a time. We started with fish tacos which were delicious and had slices of Serrano peppers. The spiciness was welcome. We had prawn tostadas that I would order again without hesitation. Quality of the prawns was excellent. The spirit of Mexican cuisine was in these dishes although they were different than the Mexican food we've had in Mexico and in San Diego. The calamari was a stretch for being Mexican but tasted great. We were disappointed to not have the margarita rims salted and the avocado was barely adequate for us but otherwise this place is great for Mexican food in Scotland.

This is a great place for drinks…read more I know other reviews show food being served...however...as of July 2025 there is no kitchen open here which serves food. However, if you wish, you may bring in takeaway food from nearby establishments. My mates and I loved this place for its simple offerings of good beer on draught, and their local whiskey selection. Anyway, I don't know much about Tortilla apart from that it's a chain and just opened at Silverburn, and seeing as I needed to go to Paperchase anyway, decided to go here for lunch. Tortilla is where Aunty Anne's used to be (Aunty Anne's has just moved to a central spot in Silverburn so don't fret if you're a pretzel love), near Tesco/Cineworld and isn't the biggest place - there's a seating area but it's definitely smaller than the rest of the places in the food court/cinema area. The set up is a bit like Pinto/Barburrito/Chipotle - order at the counter and they make your burrito fresh to order, then you take your food and get a seat. I went for my standard order - a naked burrito with pork, sour cream, cheese and mild salsa. They have an choice of rice - coriander or tomato, as well as a few more salsa options than I'm used to but overall the experience is pretty standard. Meat options include chicken, beef, pork or veggies. I also liked that you have the choice between a medium and large burrito. I'm sure the people in front of me were charged extra for sour cream and cheese, but I don't think I was so I'm not quite sure about that - maybe it was just my lucky day (the menu does say that sour cream/cheese are extras). I also got a can of Fanta and it came to about £6 all up which isn't bad for a lunch in Silverburn. I took a seat and dived into my naked burrito. And you know what, it was damn good. A nice amount of pork and other toppings and the rice was really nice (I had coriander rice). A good sized meal, nicely filling without being too crazy and tasty. I added some of the hot sauce which is on the tables too for a bit of an extra kick. All up, I was impressed. They also do quesadillas (chicken only) and nachos but only after 3pm. WHY?! What if I want that for lunch?! So weird. Other things to note: they do veggie options (not sure about vegan) and cater for gluten free/coeliac, and the chicken is halal. They have a whole lot of literature about the "provenance" of the food which is a bit OTT to me, and while they are a chain they apparently aren't part of a bigger group so try to pitch themselves as a little guy. The seating is a little awkward as you're right near the walkway and I found there was quite a lot of people standing right over my shoulder to read the menu - so don't sit on the outer seating bit if that might bother you (it sure as hell bothered me). Would I go again? Yes - I don't love the food options in Silverburn I have to say, and I do love a burrito so this is probably going to be quite high on my eating options list when I'm at Silverburn.

I had guacamole, some sort of ridiculously spicy salsa, veggie chilli, jalapenos and rice in my burrito. For a small burrito it was very filling, especially with the lovely tortilla chips. The guac was delicious and balanced out the spices a little. The water took the edge off the spice, but not much. Like a proper kick though, so was delighted with this. You can choose between mild, medium, hot and extra hot. The place itself is quite small. The table I sat at still had the last customer's leftovers there, but it was busy when I arrived so can forgive them for that. You can buy bottles of hot sauce here and they do Swipii points. Yay! Can't wait to go back! Will check out the city centre shop next time.

The cod tacos were my favorite! The fish was well seasoned, super crispy and very light! The sauce it was served with was rich abs tasty as well. I wasn't a fan of the pomegranate but that was my fault--should have ordered without it. They did not have any dessert. The service was also so great! The staff is very friendly and efficient. They have good specials and we ordered their two taco special. The beef in the tacos was on the tough side and definitely could have been more tender. The service was slow despite us being the only people in the shop at the time and the waitress we had was not very friendly. The margarita was weak and watery. Overall this was a disappointing stop and I likely wouldn't come again.

I've done the pre theatre a few times here and have always been satisfied as has my company. The pre theatre is always a good bet with a reasonably extensive menu at a good price and friendly service. The tapas portions are par for the course and the food has always been of more than acceptable quality. Their biggest sell for me is the chili chocolate mousse which is for me the especialidad de casa (thanks again to Spanish speakers Tuesday) I am (ahem) 'reliably informed' that the promo cocktails are worth indulging in and there is a pretty good wine list. All in all certainly worth a visit.

Food wise it perhaps isn't as good as Pinto, but in a Paisley copntext it is worthy of a visit and even a return. I think it would make a decent post work drinks venue too.

I found out about Bibis through a friend who had recently visited. She quickly informed me of this hidden gem as she knows I'm a massive fan of mexican food. Have just returned from having dinner there with my hubby and have to say we were very impressed. Bibis is a lovely wee place, very small, quaint and authentic. The food was amazing - very tasty and VERY fresh. I'm gutted to have only found this place when we are due to move away from Glasgow, but we will be back on a regular basis, as it is too good to miss out on. Delicious food, fantastic prices, friendly staff, lovely ambience, what more could you ask for! I'd give it 6 stars if I could. Simply couldnt fault it in any way. read more

The food was very tasty but the portions were quite small for what they cost. Bibi's is a cute little restaurant with lovely decor although it is a bit tatty, dirty (splatters up the walls) and it was cold sitting by the window. The staff were lovely. read more
