El Cartel - The fish tacos are incredible

We started with a couple of their local draft beers, the chilaquiles(special) and the elote. The chilaquiles were delicious! Very flavorful but all the chips were quite soggy and a little thick. We also got a hot sauce on the side which was divine! It was spicy and had a great taste as well! The elote was sweet, juicy and the spices it was covered in were delicious! For our meals we got the steak and chorizo tacos, cauliflower tacos, Baja cod tacos and the pork carnitas tacos. All of the tacos were delicious! Again, the tortilla was a little thick, which was nice but it was falling apart a little. The cauliflower tacos already had a nice amount of spice to them. These were a great veg option for our vegetarian. The steak and chorizo tacos were interesting as it seems they were blended into a crispy pan fried patty and the sauce it came with was incredible. The cod tacos were my favorite! The fish was well seasoned, super crispy and very light! The sauce it was served with was rich abs tasty as well. I wasn't a fan of the pomegranate but that was my fault--should have ordered without it. They did not have any dessert. The service was also so great! The staff is very friendly and efficient. Would definitely recommend!

They have good specials and we ordered their two taco special. The beef in the tacos was on the tough side and definitely could have been more tender. The service was slow despite us being the only people in the shop at the time and the waitress we had was not very friendly. The margarita was weak and watery. Overall this was a disappointing stop and I likely wouldn't come again.

So I'm a bit of a burrito fan and there's a lot of new burrito happenings in Glasgow - are burritos…read morethe new burgers? Maybe pizza has already taken that crown. Anyway, I don't know much about Tortilla apart from that it's a chain and just opened at Silverburn, and seeing as I needed to go to Paperchase anyway, decided to go here for lunch. Tortilla is where Aunty Anne's used to be (Aunty Anne's has just moved to a central spot in Silverburn so don't fret if you're a pretzel love), near Tesco/Cineworld and isn't the biggest place - there's a seating area but it's definitely smaller than the rest of the places in the food court/cinema area. The set up is a bit like Pinto/Barburrito/Chipotle - order at the counter and they make your burrito fresh to order, then you take your food and get a seat. I went for my standard order - a naked burrito with pork, sour cream, cheese and mild salsa. They have an choice of rice - coriander or tomato, as well as a few more salsa options than I'm used to but overall the experience is pretty standard. Meat options include chicken, beef, pork or veggies. I also liked that you have the choice between a medium and large burrito. I'm sure the people in front of me were charged extra for sour cream and cheese, but I don't think I was so I'm not quite sure about that - maybe it was just my lucky day (the menu does say that sour cream/cheese are extras). I also got a can of Fanta and it came to about £6 all up which isn't bad for a lunch in Silverburn. I took a seat and dived into my naked burrito. And you know what, it was damn good. A nice amount of pork and other toppings and the rice was really nice (I had coriander rice). A good sized meal, nicely filling without being too crazy and tasty. I added some of the hot sauce which is on the tables too for a bit of an extra kick. All up, I was impressed. They also do quesadillas (chicken only) and nachos but only after 3pm. WHY?! What if I want that for lunch?! So weird. Other things to note: they do veggie options (not sure about vegan) and cater for gluten free/coeliac, and the chicken is halal. They have a whole lot of literature about the "provenance" of the food which is a bit OTT to me, and while they are a chain they apparently aren't part of a bigger group so try to pitch themselves as a little guy. The seating is a little awkward as you're right near the walkway and I found there was quite a lot of people standing right over my shoulder to read the menu - so don't sit on the outer seating bit if that might bother you (it sure as hell bothered me). Would I go again? Yes - I don't love the food options in Silverburn I have to say, and I do love a burrito so this is probably going to be quite high on my eating options list when I'm at Silverburn.

Traveling through Scotland we've been amazed at all the Mexican food restaurants. After a terrible plate of natchos, we've avoided them until last night. The lure of a margarita brought us in to this place that serves water out of Jose Cuervo bottles. The ambiance was lively and had the bright ceramics of our home town neighbor. Ben, our waiter, was wonderful-calmly dealing with our concerns and bringing us dishes one at a time. We started with fish tacos which were delicious and had slices of Serrano peppers. The spiciness was welcome. We had prawn tostadas that I would order again without hesitation. Quality of the prawns was excellent. The spirit of Mexican cuisine was in these dishes although they were different than the Mexican food we've had in Mexico and in San Diego. The calamari was a stretch for being Mexican but tasted great. We were disappointed to not have the margarita rims salted and the avocado was barely adequate for us but otherwise this place is great for Mexican food in Scotland.

Oh delicious Bibi's! How did it take me so long to visit you? Now I know what I've been missing out…read moreon all this time. As other reviews have said, this place is small and you will need a booking most nights of the week. I phoned a few days in advance and could only get a table for 8pm on a Wednesday - they try to do their dinner service in two seatings, so it's either pre theatre if you're in early, or a la carte at the 8pm seating. When we arrived our table wasn't ready and so we were told to sit at another one, but then those guests arrived and so we moved to stand up again. The space is really small and so it's a little pokey/awkward - especially as the group who were at our table were asked to finish up and one of the guests seemed really miffed about this. Anyway, we were seated and given some menus, tortillas and margaritas while looking over the menu. I ordered the empanadilla with beef, chorizo & cheese to start, followed by the taco station. I had definitely scoffed too many tortillas but the empanadilla was delicious - served with a lovely sour cream sauce and actually quite big for a starter. The tacos were a mix of crispy corn and soft shell tacos and you can choose whatever fillings you want from about 8 options. I had refried bean, salmon and chicken which were all lovely. The chicken had some apple mixed through it which was odd but a nice twist. Our bill was about £24 each including tip and soft drinks and service was super friendly and helpful, even though they were clearly rushed off their feet. I can't wait to go back!

Having been spoiled most of my…read morelife with some of the best authentic Mexican food around, I have extremely high standards. After another strenuous workout session with our trainer in Kelvingrove Park, we were ravenous. We quickly popped home to change, and headed out. Lumberjack suggested Bibi's, which is down the road from our flat... I was hesitant, but I figured I would give it another go. Random aside... funnily enough, over dinner the other night with a fellow American, we were just discussing how British interpretation of Mexican food is sooooo beyond off. These attempts are noted, but never satisfy the bill. She was telling me about her adventures of seeking Mexican in London... while I explained I've given up, and have been fulfilling my Mexican food needs at home with my very own tortilla press. *sigh* Anyway, so I approached Bibi's with the mentality "this is not Mexican food... this is not Mexican food". Upon arriving, we were sat at our table by the very friendly hostess and served complementary margarita shots. Half of the 10/11 tables were occupied, which included a birthday party. The service was great and friendly. We were served chips and salsa, which I was pretty pleased with. Followed by a chicken quesadilla start... also pretty tasty. Then we both had beef burritos... now these burritos were OK, but it was like they used Hormel canned chili (google if you're not familiar) with chunks of CARROTS for the burrito filling. I always tell my friends back in Mexico about the things they serve here in the UK, and we all get a real kick out of it because it's so not Mexican (especially the chunks of carrots in burritos). I only ate about half of it and I was done. So if you take the approach that this is not real Mexican food, then you'll be pleased with the freshness and satisfied. I've bumped up the rating by one star because of that said approach.
