As soon as you walk in you realize this isn't your average thrift store. The store is well laid out, organized and has that fantastic smell of used gear (but in a good way); it all brings back good memories of the past. They have a good assortment of records (yes vinyl is making a comeback). And they are dirt cheap; mostly costing less than a buck! I picked up two records and it cost me a toonie. How great is that!! The store shelves are organized in a great way, great friendly and inviting owners, wonderful jazz music was playing in the background, housewares, books, clothing, toys, electronics and even furniture were available to snap up. Be careful, walk into Junk in the Trunk and you'll be walking into a time-warp that you may not want to leave.

Located right inside the mall, on the second level, this Dollar store is DA BOMB!…read more In fact, I"ll be honest: I didn't even know there were ANY dollar stores downtown Calgary. To find out that this store is not only downtown but located right next door to yet ANOTHER dollar store was like music to my ears. I needed a random couple of things and lucky for me, this dollar store carried every single thing I needed. I'm a HUGE fan of dollar stores, and I'm an even bigger fan of this dollar store because, yes, you guessed it, It's downtown! Happy lunch hour shopping y'all!

I like this one for all the cotchkies and random things it has. It has a great selection of kids toys, which is perfect for gifts for friends kids but also for immature joke gifts for your friends. Nerf guns are hilariously fun. They have a decent selection of electronic equipment, like computer cords and some analogue TV stuff, blank CDS and storage items. It's no future shop, but if you know what you're looking for you can save a ton of money. They also have a bigger selection of bland gift-wares than the other, including candles and canada related items, which is perfect for secret santas and travelling abroad. I recommend taking the time to go through both to scope out exactly what it is that you want.

This is our first Costco visit outside of the US!!…read more This costco location is quite small but still has the extensive options available. We tried their pastrami sandwiches and got two poutines. The poutines had a generous amount of cheese curds, gravy and fries. When both poutines were ready, we were a bit concerned if we were going to be able to finish them as a group of 5 despite being famished with so many pastrami sandwiches. Anywho, we had no problem eating them all. The pastrami sandwiches were very delicious and the cucumbers were crispy. The food was quite solid and of course, always good prices. We went through the store and got lots of sandwich and hiking snack materials to power us through this national park trip. Overall, a nice visit.

According to friends that live in other countries, Canada Costco's have a very low variety of products and although the snacks are nice I wish there were more options. The dates and date chocolates were purchased last year, the other goodies just before daughter returned home from this recent stay. All purchases were gifted to us as soon as she was back home. We now know why the granddaughter enjoys to shop at this store, and wished her Mom to see it. And 'wow' to the selections made to come home to our place!! The dates and date chocolates have long since been enjoyed. But we savoured each piece as a "special treat", and attempted to make all of them last for as long as we could -- not an easy task! And will do the same with the new arrivals brought our way yesterday morning. Of cousre, all received a good try after lunch and dinner!! And like the dates, were so flavourful and tasty. We have received some fine gifts from the daughter's Calgary trips. Our big thanks to her, and to granddaughter for introducing her to such a fine store.

I visited Freestone Northeast earlier today April 26 at 5:00 pm and asked two young employees, who…read morewere bringing out fruit cartons, about the price of a strawberry carton. Instead of assisting me, they responded in a mocking manner, seemingly because they assumed I was a newcomer unfamiliar with the Canadian accent. This kind of behavior is unacceptable and reflects poorly on your store's customer service standards. I would like to request that your staff be properly trained to treat all customers with respect. I hope you will address this issue to ensure a more welcoming and professional environment for all shoppers. Sincerely,

Designer Depot seems to have taken the Winners concept, designer brand at depot prices, and applied…read moreto it their signs, but that's about where it ends. There's nothing designer here. Don't expect to find designer goods at marked down prices. You will only find brands you've never heard of before at fictionally marked down prices. "The comparable value on the on the price ticket or sign shows you the price another retailer charges or would likely charge for the same or comparable value item." So according to the sign, these items aren't necessarily sold anywhere else, nor have they ever been sold successfully by a business for more money. They have tags that make them look like they've been marked down but they never have been. Feels a bit deceptive, doesn't it? Further more, this store has had a "closing sale" for years now. How long do you get to run a going out of business sale, before that's just your business' regular price? They've recently brought in new winter stock that they merchandize on displays at the front like any other retail. Are you really having a going out of business sale when you're bringing new items every week? Seems like a scam, folks. Well, that and an excuse to have the place be a complete mess. That said... I bought an ugly Christmas sweater. If you can block out all of the sale nonsense, there's a chance you might find something for cheap that is worth the amount of money you will pay. Yes, the quality is cheap too, but it might be worth it. In this instance, $20 for a low quality Christmas sweater seemed worth it to me. So when you see row of suits on for $70 with a sign next to them that says "compare at $350," just know that those suits have never been sold for $350 anywhere - merely that somewhere out there, there's a store that sells $350 suits. Throw that large number away and look at the final price compared with the quality of the clothing and you still might find something worth wearing. But if you're in the market for inexpensive clothing above all else, I think you'd be better off shopping at Wal-Mart. At least then you know what you're getting.

Parking has been no problem whenever I've gone, though I tend to go in the evening. I find this store easy to navigate, and the racks tend to be organized/well looked after. The staff here seem helpful and the do offer to grab alternate sizes if something doesn't fit when you're trying it on.
