Honestly there isn't much to say, overall it's a good grocery store to buy in bulk but this Costco location in particular I would not recommend. According to friends that live in other countries, Canada Costco's have a very low variety of products and although the snacks are nice I wish there were more options. The service is good and the products are good quality and pricing as well. Absolutely disappointed with the way I was treated today. I know you want your cashiers to be "fast", however respect is still necessary. Your cashier Vaneeta S. literally threw my items into the cart and she certainly did not ask if I wanted a box. After that in a low voice she told me how much the cost was, that wasn't a problem I heard the first number, not her fault. She gave me my receipt and I stood waiting for my cart to be pushed forward. By then Vaneeta was serving another customer and I was forgotten. I admit at that point I was very angry and wondered if this woman didn't like my look, I truly hope racism was not part of the issue here but I felt horrible. She noticed that I didn't take a few steps to move the cart on my own so she addressed me by calling me "dear". Yes I'm a senior, still we have feelings. I don't want anyone ever to lose their job because of a complaint from me, however I do expect that Costco train their employees to be respectful to all people. This is a multicultural country and we all deserve to be treated properly. You "Costco" want the aisle to move quickly then maybe you need to hire more staff. In my personal and business travels, I often end up at a Costco. On the Hawaiian Islands or in Iceland, that's a must to keep costs down. One time on a work trip in Washington State, it was dinner at the food court. On my recent excursion to Calgary, it was to research laptop selection, find some wine to bring back to the Hotel, to observe regional retail differences, to enjoy some people watching, and of course figure out where to park. I used to like Costco till we were in need of a dryer. We ordered it online and it was supposed to be delivered in 4 days. They set a delivery time for us but didn't show up. My husband had to take a day off and stay home. Then they postponed it to the day after, again they didn't come bringing all the excuses they could imagine. Then they set a time and they came way earlier than that and till we get home they were gone and then they called and said they can not deliver it because their truck has problems. We returned the dryer. If I could give zero star I would. This is a terrible customer service. read more

I love Cosco's. Have shopped at many in North America. Great business model. This particular Costo is at the bottom of my list of great stores. Here is the key I think will help. Open more cashiers for people waiting or use a scanner to pre-enter products so when you show up at the cashier they load and you pay done! Longest waits of any Costco visited. I'm a rebel who thinks that rules are meant to be broken. Costco on the other hand can't get enough of rules. You have to spend $55 a year for the privilege of shopping at their store and then you need to carry yet another plastic card around in your wallet in case you ever want to shop there. Want to make an impromptu Costco stop but you left your card at home? Thats a 20 minute wait in the membership line. Have a Visa? Too bad for you - Costco is Mastercard only, and damn do they love their Mastercard. If you've found a way to wait in the giant lineups without getting harassed by someone to sign up for a specialty Costco Mastercard, let me know. For now I'll assume it's impossible. You need to be open to buying what they have, not what you want. Costco changes all the time. I'm pretty sure a case studies on Costco in one of my university classes taught us that Costco only carries a set number of products regardless of category. This means that river rafting floats might get the boot for watermelons. Think makes it so you can't go here to buy a product you want. You simply need to walk in with your wallet open willing to buy whatever they have... and 300 of them. Or say you waited in a 20 minute membership line so you could have the privilege of shopping at the store that you pay $55/year to shop at so you can buy a metric shit-tonne of pretzels, but Costco has decided that they're not going to carry pretzels. It's not the best. The products they do have are unusually high quality for a warehouse. If you're willing buy what's available and forgo any sort of customer service whatsoever, you'll get a pretty good price at Costco. In conclusion, the tire service centre kicks ass, as does the $1.50 hot dog deal. $55/year for those two things? Worth it. read more

So, I finally took the plunge and bought a Costco membership. In fact, within two months of getting it, we upgraded to the next level because we find we buy enough to make it worth our while. I live in central Calgary, so the Heritage location is probably closer, but it's a madhouse on weekends, which is exactly when I shop. So we decided to visit this location instead, as I'd heard a tip that it's quieter. And it was! We found parking right away. There were a few people trolling around for spots but nothing crazy like other locations. Inside was also quieter... fewer people to navigate around and the lines weren't as long. Staff were friendly, the layout was more or less the same as the other location we frequent so that helps time-wise instead of struggling with where everything is. We tend to buy frozen & non-perishables here, limiting the perishables since there's only two of us and we don't use THAT many right now - and for those like us who choose specific recipes and buy the ingredients for them, you likely won't find everything you need on the list (especially the specialized stuff) so you'll likely make a trip to a "regular" grocery store afterwards. read more

I won't ALLOW myself to buy a Costco membership. First of all, I don't have a vehicle which means most trips to this shrine to excess would have to be single-item outings, but secondly I know myself. There are a lot of things I definitely don't need and probably shouldn't get that I rationalize my way into not buying because they're too expensive... but the few times I've been to Costco with a friend who was a member or something like that, I can practically see myself with those spinning slot machine style eyes like something out of an old Looney Toons short as my eyes dart around at everything from cheap TVs to gigantic vats of pickles (and all things in between)... so the rarity of my trips are probably a god-send. Hell, after experiencing their little built-in junkfood emporium, I'd probably end up going a couple times a week just for lunch! I can't imagine why anybody with a family WOULDN'T come here - I imagine one trip (with a decent sized car) would negate the need for at least 2 or 3 trips to the grocery store, for about half the price. Now, is this the most "single guy friendly" place in the world? Hell no. I'm pretty sure the majority of the offerings here are more than enough of any one thing to put a singular person into a comma. That being said, I actually get excited about trips here just to see my "raised in a small town" sensibilities get overloaded when I see a jar of mustard that could double as a space helmet. Go for the savings... stay for the laughter and "can you believe this actually exists?" moments. Oh, and get lunch while you're there! Here's the Coles Notes version as to why: - It's HUGE - It carries everything from socks to sausages - Bigger is better and Costco's got this one down pat - You can walk around with entire BOXES of 5 cent candies in your cart and still seem normal - The only place in the world where instead of asking for one chocolate bar, you can ask for the whole BOX - They feed me samples - They serve ice cream, hot dogs and pizza slices for less than the cost of a Starbucks Java - I never leave empty-handed - They pack my groceries and stuff in boxes instead of bags - The only place in town where you can buy a bouquet of two dozen roses for around $20 - Boxing day specials at Costco are AWESOME - They sell muffins as big as my head - You never have to have just one - most things come in a dual pack - You can return ANYTHING, ANY TIME. I bought a phone from them a year ago and just took it back the other day. They returned it NO PROBLEM. - Most of their merchandise is sold for cheaper prices than in other stores (Buyer beware: the odd product is actually more expensive so makesure you're paying attention!!!) - I've been going there forever and plan on continuing to do so until I croak Costco's where it's at. Today I bought a Costco membership and went to buy gas. The temperature was -26 and -35 with the wind chill factor. A cold weather warning has been issued. We got the gas started and jumped in the car and watched the screens while the tank filled. As soon as it stopped we were outside removing the nozzle. The 1 Costco staff member working walked around telling everyone to get out of their cars, they couldn't pump gas unless they stood in the freezing cold. So not only will Costco not provide gas pumping service, they insist you get frost bite on the -35 days. I called management and they assured me this was their policy. Absolutely no concept of sanity or customer service. I went back to Costco and returned the membership I had purchased. No interest in dealing with the American box stores anymore. The sad thing is none of the staff that work even understand what youre saying when you suggest they pass along customer feedback to their management. Well I always wanted to get a membership but my bf loved sock prices so when I saw advertising for groupon I went for it. But I got coupons but NO $20 gift card as promised. The lady at the time told me I needed to get a credit card but after reviewing the Groupon I see it was wrong so we got no $20 gift card And it was one of the main reasons we chose Groupon. Even the cuts of meat are bigger here. I don't know why, but the steaks are thicker than anywhere else and the chicken breasts look like they're on steroids.... I like Costco, but I take exception to their membership rule. I was there with someone else who had a card, but near the end of the journey I went out for a smoke and the bastards gave me a hard time when I tried to re-enter by myself. I've always been a fan of Costco. The idea of going to one location and having the ability to buy everything (I really do mean everything) makes grocery shopping a less painful task. From a large variety of books, dvds, clothing to groceries and baked goods - all in bulk -makes this a place a shopping haven. Move over Superstore, you ain't got nothing on this bad boy. My only rant about shopping here is the amount of time I spend there. It's like planning a trip to the zoo. You'll have to allocate x number of hours to be able to enjoy the store to its maximum. There is no such thing as 'making a quick stop at Costco.' No, no. Regardless of the time of day, day of the week, there will inevitably be an anaconda of a line up at the register. It's just that great. Not to mention there are way too many things to look at. And of course, the samples! Those things will tie you down for at least an hour. I must confess, the one thing that keeps me going back is the poutine. It's absolutely amazing. The gravy is the perfect level of saltiness, the fries are crispy and the cheese is half melted by the warmth of the gravy. That followed by a mixed berry sundae is a heart attack waiting to happen. But at least you'd die happy. And full! read more

Vegetables in bulk are a godsend if you go through them like we do. It feels weird buying vegetables from Costco but they have a high turnover and they're always super fresh. My other costco favourites are the book section and the dry goods aisles. Soooo much good stuff. Cereal, canned goods, baking supplies - all are better in bulk. They have a great selection of fresh foods too. I also buy all my lady's razors here because buying a bulk pack of fifteen razor heads is twice the cost of what a pack of four would cost in any other store. I'm pretty sure costcoitis is an actual disease, because the first thing most of my friends did when they moved out was buy a costco membership. There is tons of great stuff - if you have room for it. I don't feel that the store is that badly laid out - it feels very sequential - electronics, household appliances, etc. And the fact that the layout is nearly identical in every store means that once you've figured out where something is, you can find it again no matter what province you're in. I like to go before I've eaten and stock up on samples - I've made a few discoveries of new favourites that way. If they're running low, then I grab one of the hands down best Hot Dogs in the city from their little restaurant thing ($1.99 gets you an HD and a drink. Not bad). I live up in the NW so when I need some TP or bulks of such items I go to the one closer to me but now that I work in the NE, I can go to Costco for lunch or grab some stuff at lunch then head home. Though, I want to put some emphasis on LUNCH. Mmmmm Costco is so delicious. They're good for fast, junk food...such as lunch. (hehe) They've got sandwiches, fries, POUTINE, hot dogs, chicken fingers, sundaes.... I, especially like their poutine! It's huge! It can probably feed two people. The hour I went was noon and it wasn't busy at all..surprisingly. Although it did gradually get busier! Anyways, the one poutine I had was fresh, nice crisp french fries, cheese curds and hot hot gravy which makes the cheese curds melt which makes a great poutine! Pretty much a heartattack in a styrofoam bowl, but its delicious! They're hot dogs are awesome too, they're big and juicy.. And if you really want to go all out and take your significant other to a real gourmet lunch/dinner, they have a $1.99 hot dog and drink combo!!!! Uhhh....me want Costco poutine and hot dog..........SPENCE!!... brb :). read more

The tire centre is effing horrible! I ordered 4 new tires and paid for installation online and was advised my tires would be sent to the warehouse on 32nd and the Centre would contact me when they arrive then hold them there until I could get an appointment to have them installed. After dropping over $500, I get the email that they arrived and someone would be on contacting me then a second email telling me they don't have any room to hold my tires and that I need to come pick them up right away then bring them back when I want them installed. I called the Centre concerned because I have 2 small kids and a small car with no means to load 4 tires in my car and store them until I can come back. I was advised I need to come get them, if I wanted an appointment they can't book it over the phone, I would need to come down to the centre and if I wanted a refund, I would need to come down to the warehouse. Oh there was another option..they are open at 6am everyday for first come first sever installs but I would need to be there by 5am to get in line then they would only take maybe 12 people so I might be sent away. This is the worst service I've ever heard of and if I would've known this is the procedure then I sure as hell would not have ordered tires from them. I get that it's calgary and that it's tire season and everyone wants tires on their car but I'm not in a rush. If they booked me an appointment a month from now but stored my tires like they said they would before buying them, I would be fine but now I have to either find a way to pick up these tires and hold on to them until I can get an appointment or be up every day at 4 in the morning to be there by 5 to wait over an hour to hope that I can get in that day. NEVER AGAIN!!!! read more

I love Costco Pizza back home in America. We had just landed from our flight and decided to do a little shopping before we went to our destination. Ordered a full pepperoni pizza and a salad. Wasn't what I expected, but I realized I was in a different country so I decided to just give it a fair chance. Was honestly disappointed. Pizza I'd smaller than that in America and tastes something reminiscent of cardboard. The salad was a sad excuse for a salad (being usually one of my favorite parts of a meal I was severely disappointed). It was small and quite tasteless (I think they use a different dressing here). For the food court, I'd say most people will be disappointed if they are used to the Costco Food Court in America. The service was actually pretty good though, with the person even bringing the pizza to us personally (as my companion forgot to pick it up). And the people in Canada are very friendly and we'll mannered. No real comments on the Costco wholesale aspect of it, as it seemed satisfactory (and near identical to the Costco I was used too). read more

I have come here a few times when I was in the area, and I like it. The only downside is the insane parking situation. Like others on here, I love costco. Actually its a love hate kind of thing...but thankfully with this location, I feel the love a bit more. This particular location is nowwhere near as busy as the one in Deerfoot meadows, and although the layout is slightly different, it is essentially the same. Costco feels very American.... big boxes, brands you dont really recognise and deals out the yin yang. There is a sense of excitement walking in, like Disneyland for adults.... Certain areas always seem to be a shopping cart nightmare though...primarily the book section, I call it the "death zone" people are stopping to look at books and there are carts everywhere.... Costco is great particularly around the holidays when they have great gift baskets ie starbucks, guylian chocolates etc.... Also they have stuff you just wont see anywhere else.... If you want it, chances are you are going to find it here and at a significant saving. I live alone but I still can find lots of good savings by simply freezing bulk items in smaller packs, or storing things in the pantry. Whether you are single or have a family Costco is a great place to save money and find some very cool items. read more

I hired Costco to install 2 furnaces. Costco's furnace installation company hired a subcontractor that was fired on spot at 9:30 because the job he complained that the job was a 2 day job and he was paid for one day. The installation company employee that worked on the other furnace - no longer works for the company. The head project manager for the installation company installed the furnace instead of the subcontractor. He bragged about finishing by 1:30. The first city inspection failed because the pipes were not angled properly and not supported properly as well. Lennox would not have honoured the warranty as the equipment was not installed to their specifications. They broke my air filter and then glued it shut. After the second inspection, my air conditioner didn't work. The company that Costco hired said that they did not touch the air conditioning. I contacted another installation company to complete an assessment as this is a furnace and my family means the world to me. The company came out and noted that the air conditioner's hard wiring had not been removed and that the second city inspection should not have passed. The city inspector admitted to his error and failed the inspection. Costco is not taking ownership of their involvement in the file. I hired a separate company to fix the air conditioning and furnace and to make sure my family is safe. I would not hire Costco for any installation services as I discovered my family's safety and following city building codes is not top priority and it felt like it was not a priority at all. read more

Tire shop is terrible. When you go to get tires they will not give you an appointment. They tell you to come 1/2 hour before store opens and lineup? When I got a flat tire at 4oK kilometers (they offer free flat repairs)I asked them to rotate the tires while I was there.They said they would but did not (unknowing to me) At 50K kilometers I came back with another flat tire to get it repaired. They said the tread was too low to repair it even though the tire was rated for 130K kilometers and they would not warranty the tire because I had not rotated them. I showed them my receipt indicating that I had rotated the tires which is when the service person informed me the rotation had not been done. I ended up paying for a new tire. Very poor service in the tire department. Still like the rest of the store, good products and good return policy. Just don't go there for tires! read more

It's like every other Costco, but with really bad customer service. I have been going here for a few months now and I've already seen 4 cases of bad customer service. They look miserable and make my day worse by their absolute rude attitudes, especially to those who have an accent they cannot understand (not saying all the staff are like this cause I've met great employees, but from what I have experienced there will always be rotten eggs). I lined up 7 o'clock on Friday morning at the 2853 - 32 Street NE Calgary, and I wished to have my two tires swap from the steel rims to the alloy rims. After an hour lined up in a chilly morning, the tire girl annouces that they only take the first 6 customers inline and the rest will have to come back other day, or, book for appointment for next 2 weeks. First, i thought it is fine to me for the next 2 weeks appointment. But then when i got to the front counter, the girl told me that they don't do tire swapping from the existing rim to another loose rim. This is very piss people off. I told her why you didn't tell me yesterday when i was talking to her, so that i don't have to waste my time for lined up this morning, seriously. She didn't respond to my concern and this is how good of the tire store customer service at 2853 -32 Street NE. Calgary. For this reason, I don;t recommend anyone to this tire store. read more
