Let me start off by saying how excited I was to try these body butters after I found them on Instagram. I finally made a purchase of the whipped body butters bundle and made sure to purchase the insulated shipping since it is summer and I live in the desert. I made my purchase on July 2nd, it was shipped July 10th, was just now delivered July 18th. All ice packs melted, all butters melted. I would return for a refund except nobody from customer service answers emails, they don't answer the business phone, and their voicemail box is full so you can't leave a message. I already attempted to reach out to cancel my order before they even shipped it out and never heard back from anyone at the company. The butters themselves have no scent at all which was also disappointing. I ordered the vanilla and coconut whipped butters. Neither has a scent. It doesn't rub on like a normal body butter, instead it looks like I just rubbed coconut oil on my skin. Maybe that's because mine is melted. But it seems like it would be better as a hair mask than an actual body butter. Very disappointed in the product, and more so disappointed in the lack of customer service from this company. Will not be purchasing again and I do not recommend ordering online during this summer heat because the insulated shipping isn't helpful if you live in 95+ degree weather. I got my package 6 minutes after it was delivered and it still got here melted despite my efforts. There's not many reviews I'd do that aren't related to food but this one warrants one! Leila .. I'm very grateful for you, your vision and the products you produce! I'm trying to recall how I came across the brand but I believe it might've been via instagram if I'm not mistaken. As a male, some of us tend to forget to moisturize our skin and walk around potentially with damaged follicles. I for one am guilty and being a Florida resident need to do better with taking care of myself. BGLH provides shea butters, both coconut oil free and almond oil free, along with African soap and the newly added body oil. I decided I'd give this a try based off the different scents and reviews on the website. From lemon/lavender to mocha latte, I had to see what this was all about. I'm also one that doesn't like an overpowering scent but based off the reviews and to my surprise it is very subtle. The scent doesn't last too long but I'm more concerned about how it keeps my skin smooth all day! I was fortunate enough to catch a deal on a subscription box .. that box allows me up to four .9 oz body butters of my choosing or one bar of African soap monthly. I'm not heavy handed with the butters, so, I have a lot I can use and share if I'd like. I get mine shipped to Florida with the insulated option. I will say she warns that the butters could melt with shipping but it doesn't ruin the integrity of the product. The times they've come melted, I usually wait for it to solidify and use as such. I LOVE THÈSE PRODUCTS! Such a great value, my skin looks and feels amazing. I get a ton of compliments and now friends and family are also using the creams/body butters. The smell when you mix the cocoa with rose or the rose with grapefruit is just delightful. I've recently discovered their whipped butter for my hair, face and body. I love them!!! My natural hair is moisturized and softened by the whipped butters. I ordered from Bglh back in May of this year I received the sample sizes but not my other products when I emailed them was told because I didn't apply the bogo code I couldn't get the other products. the sample pack was $21.00 I was billed 47 and some change. i can't get my money returned. went through PayPal but because the statement said delivered they won't get my money back. read more

This has been the ONLY butter that my skin absorbs properly. I have been using this on my my entire body including my face and hair. It helps with my eczema on my hands and combination skin everywhere else. I just tried the black soap today but immediately my skin looked brighter and my pores looked smaller. I think this is the only moisturizer and body wash I will buy! However, I bought the rose one and as much as I love the scent I found out I'm allergic to it. I am pretty sure I'm allergic to the Mango Butter in it which I had no idea before last night when I put it on my hands and broke out in hives. I have 2 other butters that don't have the mango and I'm fine. So I just need to stay away from the mango ones but best believe I'm trying all the other ones! read more

I've been a loyal online customer of BGLH Marketplace for about a year now and I must say that they are amazing! Delivery is always super fast and I love that the company is Black owned. The quality of the butters are perfect. I use the Lavender shea butter on my body daily and the Vanilla shea butter on my hair weekly. I use the Peppermint shea butter on my feet when I want to give them a nice moisturizing treatment. I have also tried many of the other scents and loved every single one (those are just my favorites)! The only caveat here is that during the summer insulated shipping is a little higher than normal. However, even that feels well worth it to me to ensure that your products arrive unmelted. I just love the care that is put into these products. This is one of the few businesses that I support religiously. Don't ever change! read more

I have been ordering from this company for about 2-3 years now and I must say I love their butters!! They have a point system which is great when you want to spend less, and they often have coupons. Recently though I have been disappointed by this company. Nearly a year ago? I ordered their 3-pk heart shaped African Black soap which is something I order from them on a regular. Sadly they sent it to me in a brown wrapper and not their usual jar. This frustrated me because anyone who uses ABS knows that it is bound to be "gloopy" and lose texture when it sits in water. I had to make due and preserve it the best way I could. It went against the presentation they represent on their website. Fast forward, a few months ago they raised mostly all their butters by a WHOPPING $10!!! So instead of paying maybe $30 for a 12 oz jar I am now paying roughly $40. Not to mention their shipping is a bit steep. And also many of their ingredients are REFINED. I can imagine paying this price maybe for ingredients that are NOT ALTERED/REFINED. At the end of your order without coupons/points used you can easily spend nearly $60. The worst part is their processing and shipping has always been shifty. Besides the prices climbing, it now takes 6-10 DAYS for processing despite promising better processing and shipping procedures in the past. Just recently I reached out to them in regards to an order of ABS (African black soap) that was taking forever to ship and no response from the owner! I emailed both the email on the business page as well as her personal/alternative email. NOTHING! I ordered the soap on April 18, 2020 and she did not ship it out til May 1st which is FAR BEYOND 6-10 day processing. Even today on May 10 I checked my email for her response and NO APOLOGY, NO EXPLANATION, NO NOTHING. If I receive my soap jar-less AGAIN I will be sure to drop this company and give the money to another deserving growing business. read more

**This post is a diligently-compiled, good-faith expression of my honestly-held opinions of the BGLH/BGLH Marketplace business and is based on truthful, verifiable events. My post is not intended to harass, malign, or injure the business or its owner; but rather to relay factually-sound consumer accounts of this brand (on a platform intended for such purposes and) in a manner that I believe is both lawful and compliant with Yelp's Terms of Service. Though I will not be patronizing this business, my aim is not to dissuade would-be shoppers. I encourage anyone reading to decide for herself whether or not the brand is worth supporting.** In 2017, I decided to stop supporting the BGLH/ BGLH Marketplace business (e-comm) after nearly ten years of brand loyalty because I believed that the owner was tacitly supporting certain stereotypes of a xenophobic nature (via third-party statements) recited in the articles authored by her on her accompanying blog (through which the owner drives traffic to the e-comm portions of the site). To clarify, I do not believe that the owner is a xenophobe (nor have I suggested that her business practices are discriminatory on the basis of national origin or any other protected category). However, I do believe that the owner, in her capacity as a content creator, was at that time utilizing her platform (which marries a marketplace of physical products with "content" products) in a manner that casually invoked and implicitly validated certain pejorative stereotypes about my community. In what I hoped would be a teachable moment, I patiently and earnestly voiced my concerns about the dangers of using these stereotypes to make her arguments (and multiple readers up-voted my comments), but unfortunately, her response was dismissive... and (to paraphrase) that I should get a life. As a Brooklynite, I would have loved to further support the brick-and-mortar extension of the BGLH Marketplace, but, I cannot in good conscience dedicate another dollar of my buying power to this business. As an empowered consumer, I need to draw a line in the sand and stop generating product sales and advertising dollars for brands and public figures that I believe are complicit in propagating harmful messages about my community. There is certainly space for sentiments of nativism to be expressed in the market place of ideas, but I will not be financing platforms that I believe legitimize the sentiments (even implicitly so). The BGLH brand is the sum of all of the various products of which it is the proprietor, including its content products (through which the owner has asserted herself as a public figure and has solicited comment and discourse on various online spaces). I want to support Black-owned brands I believe are dedicated to uplifting the image of all black people, not just those originating from the Americas. I understand that the owner is not pleased with my review, but her displeasure does not undercut my legal privilege to factually critique her brand, particularly where she has deliberately availed herself of a public platform (via her blog) to disseminate, and to receive feedback, regarding her BGLH brand messaging. Moreover, it is truly sub-optimal on a customer service level to craft the conciliatory public-facing responses below while responding privately to me in the first instance alluding to, and then overtly threatening, legal action... and then, because I have been unresponsive to these threats (because, frankly, when would a customer ever be lulled by such an approach?), humbly determining that I must (naturally) be "frustrated by" and working to undermine the success of her business. Even now, the owner continues to miss the point, as one who is so viscerally offended by the success of a business would not have patronized its platforms *loyally* since their inception. Sadly, in a climate where consumers are increasingly feeling emboldened to give honest assessments of brands and public figures (as the owner coincidentally does liberally via her blog), the owner believes that her brand is in fact immune to such scrutiny. Unfortunately, one cannot in good faith construe the freedom of press in such a lop-sided manner -- wading into controversial topics as the owner has admittedly done, and then when the controversy has altered public perception of her brand, resorting to spurious legal theories to silence the backlash created. It is worth noting that Yelp has implemented various policies to prevent business owners from using meritless legal threats to intimidate legitimate posters. At the time of this post, the two Q1 2017 articles and the various comments referenced here are memorialized, and available, on the site, for anyone of reasonable diligence to identify, peruse, and independently evaluate. read more

THESE BUTTERS ARE AHHMAZING!!!! I shop online here all of the time, and I always select Insulation packaging so that the butters don't melt, and it works! My FAVORITE scents are the Ice cream, and the Candy scents. When I wear the butters, I get so many compliments on how I smell, I show them the website and the first thing people comment on is how the butters aren't expensive at all!! I use it in my hair, I have short 3C hair, and it is so moisturizing but not too much. I use them all over my body, and I have very dry skin, and they add the perfect amount of moisture. The butters are NOT greasy, which I appreciate, and they deliver the perfect amount of moisture without overdoing it. It is literally BUTTER on your skin, and it melts right in!! I absolutely love their products & have been using them for quite some time. I normally would order from their online store as I was located in Houston at the time; but being as tho I'm back home in Brooklyn, I wanted to stop by & check out the storefront. Now, I've traveled 90+ mins in traffic to get to here just to be told at 6:03 that they are closed. Mind you I called while in route to confirm that their info on Google is up to date as many businesses don't update their business hrs. I didn't get anywhere as the phone just rings out. So, I make the trip & arrive 3mins after 6, & enter (yes, I walked in the store as the door was open) just to be told "we're closed." Highly, disappointed with their level or lack of customer service, as I wasted gas & time to come here; if you're closed perhaps you should lock the door as opposed to leaving it open for business just to turn paying customers away! read more
