Instant Boba kits
Marie S.

Yamadaya is a fun store to shop at. Located on Sixth Avenue near Citarella and next door to the Empire Cake store, it's relatively easy to find. When I visited this week, it was fully stocked with all kinds of products and specialty items from Japan. If you can think of it, they probably have it. In the back of the store there's a section with cookware, plates and glasses - including the soup bowls with lids. I had to look up why they use lids - for heat retention and to release the aroma when you remove the lid. Some more highlights included : a nice selection of instant bubble tea boba kits, hello kitty beauty items, frozen dumplings, produce, ramen noodles, hair clips and supplies and even beer/ alcohol. The store is well organized, most items were easy to find; the prices were typical for Manhattan. Very convenient and clean. Given the limited space, they got a lot packed into it. And even though it's a Japanese grocery, I don't expect everything to be made in Japan; some items are likely there for customer convenience.

Happened to walk by and was curious. It's not a very big store but still a variety of food/merchandise. I saw some items which I've seen in Little Japan store in NJ, where I sometimes go to for small gift ideas. At least Yamadaya is closer.

they have decent prices for some stationaries and party goods! Around $2.5 :) I also found Natrou - fermented beans that are 100% Japanese produced + it's not frozen :) they have everything food, cosmetics, stationaries dishes, laundry goods etc..... I do t think they have fresh vegetables. Remember, Japanese food aren't cheap. but if you're looking for it, this is one of your options to stop by.

Excellent Japanese market. I never knew of this place (only know Sunrise and Mitsuwa) and had fun browsing their items. I had follow some colleagues after our dinner and we all browse to do some shopping. Large snack sections and really decent stuff. Altho, it was abit pricy for me, I was told it was standard pricing for the neighborhood and that japanese groceries are always about this expensive.

(Smudge of) tuna onigiri :(

Tiny smudge of tuna for a $3.50 onigiri :( The grocery items are okay - good in a pinch

Loved going into this store! They had items that I would purchase at the kombinis in Japan. Prices are reasonable. They have an aisle for skin care/ make up/ and hair care. A lot of good food too, try the tonkatsu soup base!

Great little shop with a random assortment of foods, snacks, home goods and makeup, even some stationary and bento boxes.

Love the addition of this store to the neighborhood and that it brings a different selection of Japanese groceries, snacks and home goods compared to Dainobu a couple blocks away. As many have mentioned there is a large variety of snacks and candy, as well as cooking sauces, condiments, kitchen ware and home goods, stationary, and knick knacks. They have a decent selection of dried foods and noodles and some takeaway food items but I'd say for produce and fresh/frozen food items Dainobu has a stronger selection. Yamadaya stands out in the amount of housewares, bathroom, skincare and beauty products they carry which are pretty extensive. I can see myself coming here to get some specialty Japanese brands not easily available in other smaller Japanese stores or Asian supermarkets. As other reviewers have mentioned--a spacious and very clean, comfortable shopping experience!

Another Japanese grocery store to add to my list of regular shopping locations. It's a big space too. They have all the basics: Pocky, Kit Kats, soba noodles and Kewpie mayonnaise. Plus they have a good selection of drugstore cosmetics and housewares from Japan. It's conveniently located close to the West 4th street subway station on 6th Avenue. If you're in the area check it out. The aisles are definitely more comfortable to shop than Sunrise or Dainobu.

Amazing Japanese supermarket that I happened to stumble upon while waiting for my dinner reservations. Super well stocked with a variety of items that I've never seen before at smaller Japanese markets around the city and Queens. Prices were very reasonable as well. They even sell face mask, stationary, home goods, in additional to food and snack and beverages. Definitely worth checking out.

Note that I've previously stepped inside the shop to survey the selection, and last night I stopped in for what was only supposed to be a quick moment... The owner greeted me and almost immediately started talking prices. This is $20 dollars and we have that for $25 dollars, but this is a little more expensive, and that's this price. Oh, that fascinator is beautiful on you and you can put it layaway. It was just $79 dollars, mind you. Excuse me? It's such a turn-off when people see brown skin and assume that the purchase would be unaffordable without a payment plan! Not to mention, I started off by noting that I was only taking a quick peek on my way to pick up my Nordstrom purchase. Though I promptly told her that I don't need layaway and I pay for things outright, I had already decided that I wouldn't be buying from there. Her fixation on talking to me about price was all I needed to hear. Nothing disgusts me more than when people make assumptions! I have beautiful vintage hats in my collection, fine jewelry and quality costume jewelry, and beautiful bags that I've purchased abroad. She could've had a repeat customer who prioritizes quality goods and, more importantly, quality service.
