Produce
Seby I.

It's lovely to window shop and shop at H Mart on Third Avenue. The manager's specials are a draw for me as often these are what I want. This time I bought leek dumplings and spring roll skins. Occasionally when the price is low I buy scallions but a bunch for $2.99 was a shock. I like to look at each aisle to see what produce is there and to educate myself on how Koreans eat. The toiletries and many of the soft drinks are in Korean and it's difficult at times to figure out what is what. For such a store the aisles filled with all kinds of snacks is incredible. The employees who work here are personable. If my bags are stuffed it helps that the bus stop is in front of H Mart.

Leang curry paste

I came in here yesterday looking for Thai curry paste and garlic sauce. After roaming the aisled and not finding either, I went to the front and asked for help. I was shown where the curry paste was. I picked up two cans. They didn't have chil garlic sauce which was not what I was looking. I went back up and paid for my curry paste.

I went to H Mart for the first time and finally tried the viral mango ice cream. Absolute heaven! It melts in your mouth. I wanted to go back and buy another one.

I was walking home from dinner with my big bro and he hit me with "Aye I need to pick up some oyster sauce, wanna pop into the grocery store with me?" That's some grown man business, picking up some oyster sauce from the Korean market lol. Respect. We popped in and H Mart was PACKED. Standing room only. I perused around while big bro hunted for his oyster sauce, and I wanted to buy everything. So many snacks I had never seen before. I felt like I was back in Japan or Vietnam. I got analysis paralysis and ended up not getting anything. I almost bought some meat as they had such a wide selection of things I never see at TJs or Whole Foods, but it was lowkey pretty expensive and my pockets are on featherweight. Big bro found a new oyster sauce per an employee's recommendation, as the one he currently had was "not viscous enough." He different. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov_reviews

H Mart was super organized with so many great options. I came for one thing and ended up with a bunch of stuff! The workers were nice, the prices were good, and they've got raw shrimp and hot meals too. The whole market had a nice vibe to it. It was also very clean.

Great H mart by union square. It has hot deli section for to-go. It even has boxes from BBQ chicken next door. Grocery looks fresh.

Japanese KitKat flavors.

the Korean supermarket is stocked with a lot of different Asian food goods. the actual space is fairly small for a supermarket BUT it doesn't feel like that bc the store is really well organized and has so many items shelved neatly. beyond behind really clean and well-maintained, the store consistently stocks items and brands and rarely is "out" of anything no matter the time of day or night. there is also a fair amount of Asian-centric kitchen ware close to checkout. the store has a good energy vibe and the employees are pleasant and helpful. 'Sides H Mart always has Japanese KitKats in stock which is a plus in my book for any grocery spot.

Cleanest, most organized grocery store I've ever seen (check my pictures). Night and day compared to the Hmart in Ktown. The workers here are always tidying up the store, making sure everything is organized correctly, and that all items are put back to their correct locations. Checkout is super fast and they'll bag everything for you as well. This has become our go to spot for asian groceries now!

No mask allowed sign at H-Mart.

I saw this mask ban sign and hope they have reconsidered! Also they don't know how to do baked sweet potatoes here anymore -- this year they're hard and dry. Other location in Great Neck still good.

I'm in love with this H-Mart, although some items are more expensive than other H-Marts but it's understandable since it's in a prime location. Fruits and vegetables are very fresh. The store is very clean. There's no fresh seafood or meat, just frozen. Excellent variety of frozen food like dumplings (there's literally a whole wall of it), buns, pancakes, noodles, etc. every turn into H-mart leads a surprise with goodies. Amazing instant noodle aisle and snacks aisle. Btw: look for the manager special; they're great savings!

I get Korean 7-Eleven vibes upon visiting this new H-Mart location in the East Village. I usually come here for their fresh produce or for some of their cooked food items. They have a large variety of chips and ramen! You'll also find a variety of some cooking ingredients, appliances, ice cream, beauty products, cookware, fresh bread, etc. there's a "standing" area where you can eat your food facing the streets. Lines nice fast whenever i go, so not sure about the usual crowds. Their prices are fair enough. I do see a few products I can get cheaper in a chinese market if you know where to look.

Great prices for quality tofu in Manhattan, several different textures and brands

Wow, now this is how you build out an Hmart, the most impressive I've seen in awhile. I was surprised how fresh and wonderful their produce and fruits were, at their solid and cleanly packaged meats, and at how much stuff they managed to cram in here without being suffocating - perhaps in thanks to the good lighting, colorful signs, and good layout. There are much bigger and well-known supermarkets in the area with sadder looking "fresh" items laying around. They have several good banchan/side dish/ready-to-eat sections, some by the kimchi section and others by the K-chicken kitchen. The bakery is looking good and there are seemingly long stretches of easy-to-prepare refrigerated, frozen, and ready-to-eat packaged foods and hand-made dishes. If only I had a larger fridge instead of a small one in my humble studio kitchenette! Only sad thing is that Hmarts in Manhattan still doesn't participate in their rewards/loyalty program. Get with the program, guys! They also have a ton of great premium - both instant and even refrigerated - ramyun/ramen in their store. It wasn't too crowded when I went on a slow Sunday afternoon, but I also think they can better label and prepare their checkout lines for when it does get packed. Other than that, this place has a lot of promise and is absolutely miles better than the old one in Koreatown. If Hmart as a brand gets better at marketing with authenticity (instead of having that cold and clinical, Asian-corporation vibe), connects with locals instead of just major Asian-American celebrities and brands, and improve their customer service and return policy to match those of powerhouses nearby, I truly believe this niche supermarket can explode mainstream! Good job team, someone really thought this through and I'm hoping to see more Hmarts in Manhattan like this in the future!

The store is well run, the people are pleasant, and I've always felt extra safe there during the pandemic.

Packaged goods are on the basement floor. Meats are to the left, produce is at the front, and drinks and sauces are to the back. Prices are quite reasonable although I've noticed that most American products are slightly more expensive. They do offer grabber tools to help you reach higher shelved products, which is nice. I'd definitely recommend HK Supermarket due to its excellent inventory. Just remember to come before it closes since it usually shuts down around 7-8pm.

The prices, which once were the big lure, are also longer quite as good as they were. As some here have noted, they engaged in outright price-gouging during the COVID pandemic, which I found to be obnoxious. But then the quality of the vegetables steadily declined. Perhaps it was a bad supplier or whatever. And they weren't as cheap as they used to be. The service, while never good, has turned rude, and worse at the fish counter. My old fish store on Grand closed so I started going here for fish. At first I didn't mind when "locals" were waited on ahead of me, but frankly it became irritating after a time. I'm not sure it's legal, to be honest. And the prices of fish are not as good, a buck more expensive per pound, than other fish merchants. The rat i saw on my last visit clinched it for me. Goodbye, Hong Kong Supermarket.
