The good reviews are several years old. This place is NOT as pictured. I'll start by saying I've never booked a stay at a motel. This place really is the epitome of a trashy motel. The photos online ARE NOT the way this place actually looks. The photos depict a prestige outdoor parking area with simple landscape. This is not what you will find here. The photos depict a crystal clear Olympic size pool. That is not what you find here. The photos depict a nice comfortable, updated room. That is not what you find here. The staff is incredibly rude. I don't have much experience with Indian people but these were the rudest people I have ever dealt with in my entire life. By a landslide. Our room had bugs flying all over and they couldn't fathom why I didn't want to stay in the room. I knew these slum lord type of business owners weren't going to give me. Refund. So instead I asked for a copy of my receipt so I could dispute it with my bank. They tried to tell me I was not entitled to a copy of my receipt. The old man starting yelling at me in his native language as if I could Understand. I politely explained I certainly am entitled to a copy of my receipt, with my signature, with my credit card info. The old lady owner walks around the doors being nosy and creepy. The place reeks so bad. There's trash and bugs everywhere. We got in late due to traveling. The manager or owner was very rude. We had reservations for a month. He wouldn't honor them due to not going thru them. We used expedite. He said my card was declined which wasn't. But if I paid him $100 cash he would let me stay 1 night. I had 3 small children and didn't have cash on me. This guy was rude. I wouldn't never recommend this place. We had to find another hotel at 230am. I felt bad I woke him up. But I did put in the reservation that we would be in late. The place looked like a dump on the outside. And the pool didn't look workable as there were chairs in the pool and no water. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE! November 2021 Review of Sun Plaza Motel This is a horrible place. I would of made my review sooner but my account with my CC company was in dispute and after 105 days, I lost the claim. So do not use AMEX to reserve hotel rooms b/c they do not care either, if the room is pathetic, disgusting, dirty and in an unsafe place in Ocala! The grounds are a junk yard. The room was dirty, stained, repairs were pasted together with spackle. The spackle container was left in the room actually, the shower was filthy and there is no morning breakfast. This place was so shady, do not fall for the prices or the pictures on this website, they are FAKE. That place looks nothing like its advertised. Magneson Hotel chain takes no responsibility for their partner hotels. This was the main reason I booked because I know the Magneson Brand and I was happy with them in Tampa. Any way, the manager will not work with you. The steal your money and when you try to leave they refuse to cancel your reservation. Booking.com and Trip Advisor were no help either. I am sorry but between all three of these companies and the compliant was reported within in 15 minutes of check in, one of them should of just charged back the funds and Magneson should remove their name from this partner. You best to just pay a few bucks more and stay in a better place NORTH of this place - go further North above 45th and so on. Go to a Holiday Inn or another chain. Good Luck in your search, but stay away from here! Whoever gave them a good review must of been paid pretty well. read more

This could be the best motel in Ocala, and easily the best bargain for the money. We loved the mix of retro neon (a la Route 66) and art deco. The room was clean, and a very nice patio for chilling. It surpassed the photos we saw. The bagel and orange juice breakfast was an added surprise. Sadly, we saw (and killed) one penny-sized roach in the bathroom of room 14 at night. It left a bit of tarnish on an otherwise excellent experience. Even with that, we will be coming back whenever we come back through Ocala. read more

Such a nice place to stay! Not a four star hotel, but it definitely surpasses any of the budget motels by a mile! It has a retro roadside motel vibe to it. I loved that part! But the rooms had a modern contemporary feel (think IKEA) without seeming pretentious I love that each room has black and white pictures of "ranch" life. So whimsical. Staff was very friendly and continental breakfast was a sweet touch. Only dislike we had was the ice machine is not available all night. It is behind locked doors after office closes. I like ice cold water in the middle of the night. Overall, this was a great hotel for the money. I wish them much success in the future and if we are ever in the area again, we will be staying here! read more

We decided to stay here because of the good reviews and convenient location to Silver Springs. I wish we wouldn't have. The room was clean but you could tell it was very old. The toilet was old and made noise throughout the night. The shower leaked everywhere. The smoke detector started beeping in the middle of the night because of a low battery (at least it works I guess) and the worst part.. I ended up getting locked in the bathroom because the door knob didn't work from the inside..luckily I wasn't alone or who knows when I would have gotten out. Also there wasn't a good outlet for charging. The only thing I enjoyed about this place was the fire pit they had in the back. read more

Awesome! Love this place. OUTSTANDING place to stay in Ocala. Room was super clean and the renovation feels like it was done last week. Also, very quite, no sound at all. The staff was very nice and even made a fire in the fire pit, which was staffed by an eclectic group only found at motor inns. Lovely and clean. I haven't stayed in a motel since family trips in the (cough, cough) 70s, and staying here really reminded me of those times, except the decor is much nicer now! The woman at the front desk was helpful and patient, even when I couldn't remember under whose name I booked our reservation. :/ She also walked over to the room when we couldn't start our A/C. (It was a long trip, I'm usually much smarter.) The room was just as it looks in the photos on their website and FB page, and the bed was really comfortable. It wasn't fully booked this Friday evening - it was quiet, and we got a great night's sleep. Breakfast in the morning is from 7-9, with a decent offering of bagels, cereals, juice, milk, and coffee. They held insulin for us in their fridge, which is great when you're traveling. Pet friendly, with a few leashed dogs around, but absolutely no sign of it in the room. Also, great wifi and cellular signal. Would definitely stay here again. read more

I had occasion to stay there in January & February. Both times the rooms were not made up every day, 2 days in a row actually, both trips. Light went out over main table, both trips. I was told maintainance man would fix it next day. When it wasn't done, I find out the girl lied to me that they don't employee a maintainance man. Same girl was over an hour late opening up breakfast, again, both trips. Another day no milk, no juice and cold coffee. It's the only motel that I have seen that no one is there from 10pm until they decide to show up the next morning. so if there's a problem during the night, you're screwed. The only thing they have that's worth mentioning is the low price. But after you stay there, based on service, it's too much for what you get. read more

This place proclaims itself a boutique hotel, but don't let that fool you. While they made an attempt at renovation, slapping on a new coat of paint and adding a funky retro chandelier in the lobby, the rooms are less than desirable. The "luxury linens" they proclaim had blood spots and holes (see pics), the "largest double rooms in the area" included a bathroom where you have to stand on the toilet to open the door, and a totally unusable closet taking up 1/3 of the room. The room also did not have a smoke alarm or sprinkler system, and smelled like mildew. Add to that a closed pool, noisy exterior, and less than secure door and window. My husband and I were looking for a place to getaway for the weekend from Orlando. Found this cute place online. Loved the IKEA look from the pics, and the fact that it was all recently redone. The Motel is from the 50's-60' era and we loved the adventure of a redone "old" place. What a great job they have done, and are doing, to refurbish this very cool, quaint, place. We enjoyed sitting on the porch each day talking and people-watching. Staff was fabulous, beds comfortable, and very clean. This ain't the Hilton, folks, but a great pool, clean, clean, clean, room and so cute! A great adventure for my husband and me! Loved it! We even asked to stay late on our check-out day, didn't wanna leave, they charged us only $20 to stay til 3! Woot-woot! read more

TERRIBLE! stayed here for 2 weeks. the owner has basically stolen money from us by not keeping track of the check out dates (said we were supposed to check out days before we were actually supposed to). paid for the second week and three days before checkout we get a cop banging on our door at 10 pm asking for a stephanie when there was no one by that name staying here. they just assumed that i was a girl named stephanie. now the officers are saying that we need to leave tomorrow for "being rude" because the checkout date confusion made us upset . We woke up the ne,t morning and spoke to the front desk. The 2 officers were just talking trash. The owner is very "overbearing mother" status and tells you who you can and cannot talk to and snoops around in your room,also the washing machine ate my boyfriends money and she got angry about having to give back 2$ (tried to give back 1$) wifi cuts in and out all the time and the pool is a filthy mess. asked for a different room and they moved us into it before even cleaning it fully and forgot give us the key or a do not disturb sign. there was an old yogurt container in one of the drawers by the bed. the one on the opposite side of the bed had a disgusting walmart bag leaking brown sticky juice. cleaned it myself. all of the curtains in the room were busted. owner didnt even fix them, just told me how to do it myself. (nice huh?) also charges 20$ for a later checkout (instead of 11am its 12pm) WOULD NOT RECOMMEND! WILL NOT BE STAYING IN THIS RUBBISH PLACE AGAIN. would rate negative if i could for the whole police incident. Owners never even spoke up when the officers were wrong. read more

Had a pleasant stay here. The front office (Kim) was able to answer a lot of questions about the area even though she just moved there. Rooms seem to be just renovated, except for the bathroom. Everything was very clean, and I think their try of making the room look designed in a minimalistic way worked very well. Nothing fancy but does the job. Room for improvement: wi-fi signal, and use softener when washing the bed covers ;) read more

Wow! Where do I begin.... I travel for business all the time throughout the southeast and found this boutique hotel online and gave it a try. I was blown away! The hotel is renovated with the most gorgeous room that is comparable to the high end hotels I have visited for fun. The bed was so comfortable, I didn't want to get out of it. The shampoo and conditioner are now my favorite addiction and I am waiting for my shipment to arrive. The staff is wonderful and I stayed in the back building, which was quiet. You must stay here if you travel to Ocala and I promise you that you will fall in love with it! Totally amazing! read more

We decided to look into staying at the Sun Plaza Motel after driving by and noticing its striking Mid Century architecture. Our family of four stayed a couple nights this past weekend and we were thrilled with our room. Clean and super comfy beds, modern decor and the original colorful tile in the bathroom. A mini fridge and microwave in the room were a nice surprise. Coffee, baked goods and cereal were available for breakfast. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful! read more

WIFI was weak, swimming pool, BAD, and a little pricey for a motel, but it was clean and staff was attentive, plus no gunshots. Air-conditioning drowned out the noise outside. There was a group of men partying outside on the other end, we were lucky we weren't next door to them. P.S. there's no security after 10:00 because front desk is closed by then.
