We held our rehearsal dinner in the historic farm house built in 1908, took photos in awe inspiring pastures, and shared our vows on a cold winter day in the most charming granary greeted by the most delightful farm animals. The best part of our weeklong stay there was our host, Fran. Talk about the most humble and hospitable person we had ever come across. He made us feel so comfortable and truly helped lay the foundation for one of the most memorable days of our lives. Each family prepares a meal and we just have a good time. The Jenne Farm is a fantastic spot to let the woes of city life disappear while you sit on the porch of the 100 year old farm house. Take walks through the farm land and forests visit the beach nearby and mainly just relax. Chat with the farmers who stop buy nearly daily to tend to things they will give you farm fresh eggs even take you on a hay ride. I got to drive the tractor...felt like a kid again! There is no TV or Phone so bring a bunch of friends and just enjoy life!

If you arrive late, you can park and check in in the morning (now that we've been doing this for a while, that seems to be the norm). Friendly staff, gorgeous views, beach access, base police make regular rounds, and the bathroom facilities are clean and warm. It's nice to take a shower in an area big enough that if you drop something, you don't have to get out of the shower to pick it up. ;-) The dogs loved the path and the nearness of the beach for potty potty breaks. Man, this place is so windy. If I might make a recommendation...keep your awning in. Only put it out when you plan to sit under it...otherwise, keep it in. Prices are competitive. There is a playground and giant chess set. BBQ's provided at each site. Back in, pull through, 50 amp, 30 amp, tent camping, yurts, oh...and fun "art" installations along the path. If you're into tetanus PT, there's a pull-up area covered in rust!

The Whidbey Scenic Isle Way is a nice stop to take pictures of the shoreline just past Fort Casey State Park. People were fishing and even scuba diving while I was walking around. The whole coastline is refreshing and a great way to put things in perspective. I enjoyed being there.

After greeting us warmly at the door, Mrs. Bronson sat us down in the parlor for tea and a chat about our plans for the trip. She also listed off a mind-boggling number of options for our two breakfasts; we settled on applecakes with cinnamon and waffles with real cherries jubilee, if you can believe it. The food was delicious, served in formal courses on beautiful china and crystal. The house itself is a literal treasure trove, spilling over with the Bronsons' international collections of books, knickknacks, furniture and sundries. The overall effect is somewhere between a Studio Ghibli film and the set of "Practical Magic". It's very understandable that they can't host small children! For older guests, though, it's difficult to pry yourself out of the building to see the other sights on the island. We enjoyed viewing antique photographs on a Victorian-era stereoscope and listening to a music box with swappable punched-metal discs, and spent a pleasant evening sipping port and playing chess in the upstairs parlor, feeling very posh. Between the delightful host and hostess, the wonderful food, and the completely unique furnishings, our time at the Compass Rose was unforgettable. We'll definitely be staying here again.

I was hoping for an easier hike for John, and truthfully myself too, since I hiked to one of the summits at another park that morning. 3pm in the afternoon we found one side of the park is camping, but the other side has sport fields and trails. Some trails are equestrian friendly- aka, watch out for poo while hiking. The wind was gusting on this particular day and the trees were really talking- tippy tops smacking together and the rustling of leaves. We happily found a very recently completed Eagle Scout project & as a former leader and still volunteer, I was happy to see it so far out on the trail and wondered if there was more done! One the way out we realized that a tree bordering the trail had snapped from the wind! We had taken pictures of various fungi and plants at this particular spot and pictures really confirmed that it splintered in a matter of minutes from when we hiked past the first time! That startled me a bit, I know to watch out for dead fall when pitching a tent- but wow! I enjoyed how the trail weaved you in and out of dense forests and into areas with more lower vegetation. We saw animal tracks as well. Flowers were almost all gone and what was left was getting blown off with the wind of the day. I think May would have been more colorful! I'll have to hike this again next visit!

We decided to check it out, taking the perimeter trail part way and returning via the road. The trails are narrow, flat, and easy to follow. Not a whole lot to see, but lovely trees for sure. I wouldn't say it's the most peaceful spot however, with pups barking at the shelter on one side and the constant sounds of a nearby shooting range on the other. Still yet, an okay spot for a short hike...just watch for the horse poop on the path.

I would make all of the spaces be as luxurious decorated as the other floors to match. That way all guest get the castle experience. Maybe put extra work into landscaping. A much-needed birthday gift to myself, I booked a two night stay at this peaceful retreat in the…read morewoods. Easy to find from the Clinton ferry, Ken and Lynn Berry greeted me when I arrived and made me feel right at home. Located 14 feet off the ground, the treehouse is tucked enough away to feel secluded while the rest of the property is close enough to keep you on the grid. The room itself came with modern conveniences (electricity, heaters, a microwave, DVD player, WiFi) and plenty of lounging space, with a converted shed for bathroom business located outside a few paces away. I liked looking at the skylight above my bed at night, listening to the rain beat against the corrugated plastic and feeling the wind against the walls. The wooded surroundings made for a pitch black sleep and refreshing wake-ups. I would've utilized the deck with my morning pot of coffee, but it was too soggy and cold all weekend to really enjoy it. I could see how it would be a lovely place to sit and enjoy the nature scene, though, and I appreciated the colorful LED lights Ken had attached to the trees making it feel like a thousand fireflies were escorting me home at day's end. I even saw two deer while I was there! Billed as a bed and breakfast, I was hoping for something hot and substantial to eat when I woke up. Instead I was given cold breakfast items both nights for the following mornings. I was living my hippie dream, so the granola and fruit were fitting, I suppose. Lynn also baked me GF scones on the second day and gave me a relaxing massage (she's a licensed massage therapist and provides this service for an additional fee), so my complaints are minimal. The island itself is fun to explore and the view at Double Bluff Beach is worth a stop on your way back to Mukilteo.
