He eats a special kind of kibble that I buy at a specialty store here in Boise. Ok, it's not like special special, but it's a better kind for him vs the ones you'd get at like a Walmart. This brand is definitely not available at stores like that, grocery stores etc. Country Max had the brand, but not the kind I needed for little Alfred. I did however!!! find some other things for him. First I'll start with the store and its layout. It's definitely one of those homey type farm type stores. It has all kinds of things for animals, outdoor things for humans, plants, trees, all the stuff. I guess it's like a Home Depot but thankfully not a big box store that's corporately owned/operated. I know of 2 locations in that area of NY. Not sure if that's the only two, but if so, that gives you an idea that it's not an annoying mainstream store. You'd think...smaller, privately owned and operated store...prices must be higher. Not even. I was genuinely shocked at how much I didn't spend there haha. My little Alfred (he's a yorkie) loves loves loves bully sticks! Sure, some times he acts stuck up and I'll give him one, he will chew it for a min and come right up to me expecting another lol I used to give him bully sticks when he was a tiny baby bc they're good for their teeth and he was a ... well, he was a difficult little puppy lol. Bully sticks were a GOD. SEND. Give him one and he was occupied for hours. So now...he loves them and he's super spoiled and acts super spoiled especially when he knows I have a bunch of them haha! I bought like 8 of them and got an insane deal. I think I spent like $15 total. If you've ever bought buy sticks for your dogs...you know they aren't cheap. Very pricey little treats, but worth it. They last awhile too. So you get your moneys worth. I think the ones I bought were on sale. They had to have been and I didn't realize at the time. Great buy! Loved it! Having my mom check there regularly when she's in the area haha! Back to the store. Nice layout. Perfectly lit, very clean. Everything is nicely displayed. There really is no problems finding anything. They have a fish section in the back. Made me happy to see. So many stores growing up always had them...like the big box stores haha! They obviously...no longer ... don't haha. So when you go into a nice little store like this, it's cool to see they still exist. Prices again throughout are very reasonable. They even have bulk treats for dogs. My little man loves these doggie cheezits. They have them. Random info, but it's the little things that make me happy haha. Staff is very very friendly. I was asked a couple times if I needed help. Rarely see that anymore or you go into a store (like Apple for example) and have 30 people ask you if you need help back to back. Glad this store exists. I've been in the past. I went here years ago with my last yorkie and they carried the food he was eating at the time. They have a great selection of dog foods. Some, forgive me for repeating myself, some you won't find at big box stores. Foods that are actually better for your pups....if you're a kibble person. You see, Harley is a rescue, and I have worked very hard to get her out of her fear mode; especially when it comes to strangers. Every groomer has been so quick to notice Harley's fear, and easily adjust to it, and my over protection of her! While I don't believe she will ever willingly subject to having to leave me; she no longer needs to be carried or overally coaxed to go into the grooming room (JUST DON"T TRY TO BRUSH HER TEETH; ROFLMAO!!! : 0 ) Thank you so much for the awesome nail grooming, but also for being so great with Harley's quirks!!!

The enclosures that they keep their frogs in is straight animal abuse. Frogs need a water dish with…read morea heat lamp and a uv lamp to mimic the sun. They need a certain level of humidity and heat. At this location they are keeping the frogs in a tiny box with some moss and that's it. No water bowl or anything. Nothing to climb on and no heat lamp. This is so disgusting and they should not still be getting business since it just encourages treating animals like this.

Aquariums allow us to bring a little bit of that world into our homes. Having grown up with several aquariums, both fresh and saltwater, I've always appreciated what an aquarium can do for a room (doesn't hurt that I studied marine science in college either). There aren't too many dedicated saltwater aquarium shops in the area so I was excited to check out the Salty Dog. As soon as I walked in, I noticed the reef tank that is beautifully stocked and lit. For anyone who appreciates fish and corals, this place proves itself to be the real deal right from the start. Further into the store, you'll see several tanks with fish and some tanks containing corals and coral fragments. Everything I saw looked to be great quality and very healthy. This isn't your local PetCo where you see some dead fish floating in the tanks. Despite the great location and exceptionally high quality product, the best thing I found with The Salty Dog is the knowledge of the two owners, Adam and Kyle. These guys were both there and I had the opportunity to chat with them for about an hour. It's clear that they both love what they do and want everyone to have a great experience with their aquariums. Adam provided me with a print out that went step-by-step through the process of setting up a saltwater tank. Part of that process requires you to bring a water sample to The Salty Dog to be tested by them before they'll even allow you to buy any livestock. On top of that, they told me they guarantee their fish for about 24 hours! I really enjoyed my trip to The Salty Dog and I look forward to setting up my next tank. Adam and Kyle are great to work with and I'd recommend taking a few minutes to chat with them if you ever stop by. Their knowledge and love for their craft is instantly recognizable. We were incredibly disappointed with not only the selection of fish, but the quality and price as well. The prices were at least double on most fish compared to what we pay at The Fish Place in Tonawanda. The water quality was extremely poor in most of the tanks as well. The fish quality itself was hit or miss. They have some specialty bettas you won't find elsewhere which was cool, but the prices are insane. The cichlids were outrageously high priced for extremely low quality, washed out fish. We couldn't even tell the males from the females due to the poor water quality. My guess is that this is due to the amount of teenagers working at this store. When we stopped in on a Saturday night there were 3 teenagers working, all of whom couldn't stop talking about how they couldnt wait to leave work and making concerning comments about housing way too many anoles together in a tank. It's clear the kids working here have extremely limited knowledge of the care of the animals in this shop. The one good thing I can really say about this shop is that they had excellent prices on fish tanks and had a lot of unique sized & shaped tanks you'll have trouble finding elsewhere. They also had some cool planted tanks, but the prices were again very high.

Missy ( my cat) was taken in and they took excellent care of her. She is severely hurt and I have taken her in 4 times this week. I have called them and sent them pictures when I wasn't sure what to do for her. The staff there are the nicest sweetest people ever. They have been in touch with me to see how she is. I really can't say enough good things about them.

I applied to adopt a specific dog from this shelter. Linda let me know that dog was not a good fit,…read moreso I thanked her and let her know to put my application on hold. A week later she called me while I was at work saying she had spoken with my landlord and that my apartment did not allow pets. I was quite confused because I had never heard of the woman she had spoken to, and I had asked her to put my application on hold and was now midway into adopting a dog elsewhere. I tried to calmly get to the bottom of the miscommunication, reminding her that I had sent her written proof of my pet policy over email, and that this was not my landlord she had spoken to. I suggested maybe it was a wrong number, or a new employee at the leasing office. She snapped at me "Would you just be quiet and let me talk!" At this point I told her to withdraw any of my information from her system, and never contact me again. I called my landlord and she said she had never spoken to Linda. This strange miscommunication should never have happened, as I had already requested my application be put on hold. It also could easily have been resolved if Linda had listened to me and conducted herself with professionalism. I am so happy I will be picking up my dog tomorrow from a more professional shelter. For these reasons I can unfortunately not recommend this shelter. But please, adopt (elsewhere) don't shop!

I have not personally adopted thru gerties. But I have delt with Gerties many times. The people…read morethat help run Gerties are great people. They care deeply for the dogs in rescue. They take finding the dogs the best home possible seriously, and make sure it's the best fit for the dog. They are willing to help out anyone when they can. They have helped me with things a few times. One of the volunteers knows I have a dog with issues, she has offered to keep him a few times when I have had surgery or needed to be gone for a longer period, so that he didn't have to go to a kennel. They have thought of my dogs when the rescue has items that they can't use. My 12 year old was having issues getting on the couch, they gave her a set of steps so she could still get up to nap on the couch. They put everything they have into their rescue.
