We contacted Chermak when our bathrooms were destroyed during a massive water leak in our home and…read morewe were dealing with a huge insurance claim. We were initially recommended to a few contractors that specialized in restoration from leaks but started to feel uncomfortable with the process and like they were all trying to take advantage of us via the insurance claim. A neighborhood Facebook group pointed us to Chermak with consistent reports of them having great service, but also a fair price and staying on time and on budget. I was quickly connected to Angel the project manager and she was able to come out to our house that week for an inspection. She immediately built trust with us and showed a genuine care for wanting to get us back into our home (we had been out already for 3 months). We trusted our gut and quickly got to work with Angel and Chermak and getting the ball rolling on the scope of work to be done and approved by our insurance company. And to risk the obvious pun here, Angel was an Angel, there's no way this would have gone how it did without her, for all that she manages and does she's very efficient and good at her job and really absorbs a lot of the stress and difficulty that is common to this kind of work. She also was very reasonable with us in not upselling, offering suggestions where things could be easier or money better spent, which helped with our trust. Fast forward to the working starting EARLY (which was a good thing) and not only completing on time but even a week EARLY than what was planned, so exciting for us. Kim from the design team helped us get our plans together for the bathrooms to achieve what we really wanted out of them and set the plans in place. Tyler was our GC for the 8 weeks of restoration and I selfishly don't want to tell everyone how good he is because then everyone will want him. We were concerned about having so many people in our home and around our stuff, but he so quickly made us feel comfortable and was adopted into the family. He also really listened to us and understood our wants, needs and particular requests as the bathrooms were constructed, he knew it was important to us things be done the right way and was willing to take the time to see it through. He's also just an all-around good dude and we miss having him here. I've given many referrals since our job wrapped to other prospective clients for Chermak and we intend to hire them again when it's time to remodel our kitchen. Our job was not without any issues but they were determined to do the right thing and see us be happy with the end result, which is a really great experience in this kind of arrangement. Customer service goes a long way and is often worth paying for and we are so happy with our new bathrooms. Thank you Chermak team!

It's a wonderful company and I cannot recommend them highly enough. I don't plan on having any more remodeling done for some time but if and when I do I'll gladly return to Chermak. I want to specifically mention the team that worked on the place since I'm so happy with the job. AnJanette oversaw things and walked me through the job, Gary did a phenomenal job doing the initial assessment and recon, Jack, Craig, Chris, Carson, and John did the work and painting. I don't know enough about the details to give specifics of who did what, but it was all done really, really well and I am ecstatic about it. If you're looking for a remodel, Chermak knows their stuff and does the job well.

We worked with Malcolm and Gary from Brightwork to build out our attic into a master suite (and in…read morethe process to bring our stairs, electrical, shear walls up to code).  We are very involved people so we checked progress weekly, which I think is not standard of most home-owners. Pros: -The BWB team executes with exquisite quality and their subs were excellent too. -Team is very honest and pretty easy to work with -These guys really know how to work with original architectural features and are very passionate and knowledgeable about how to maintain/reuse original materials or make new materials match to the original/existing materials -Good value for the money. They were clear up front that the work would be within +/- 20% of their estimate and with our work they landed at just about 20% over. I suggest you ask questions up front around what would cause the price to end up over the estimate - I learned that it's things like change requests. :) Cons: -The framers didn't seem to be working to the drawings and we had to have them rework two spots. They did so and since it was their error, they absorbed the cost. -I think the framers were smoking in our house b/c I found a cigarette butt on the dining room floor (why would you smoke inside a house when you're in the building business??). My husband thinks it might have stuck to someone's shoe and come in that way. Regardless, Malcolm talked to them and we didn't see any further evidence of the issue. -We also expected to live in the house during most of the remodel and set that expectation. We were surprised that the water, heat and electricity was off for a while, making that plan challenging. We had also allocated "safe" rooms, where we didn't pack everything up. People undergoing remodel should be aware that these rooms may become contaminated with lead paint dust as well if someone falls thru a ceiling or the plastic lining between rooms gets torn. Pack all of your stuff up in boxes and tape it and number the boxes to tie back to your inventory list in case you need to find something during the remodel - you'll know exactly where it is :)

Nate gave helpful tips on how to prep the area since we were interested in saving some money. Other contractors had given me a hard time and talked down to me when i they saw the bathroom. Not Nate he was respectful and really saw no problems in having J and M finishing the job. It was the busy time of year so they said they couldn't fit in me in for a few months. But then in a week later he contacted me since they had someone cancel. So they could fit me in! They sent their tile guy named Bob to do the job. I loved Bob. He was on time, kept the work space tidy and was just a nice guy to have around. Talk about attention to detail. Because i live in a small apartment with no place to cut tile, he had to cut off site. He did a beautiful flawless job. I highly recommend this company. From start to finish i was very happy.

They made sure the post was plumb and steadied it with 2X4s and they'll return next week to remove the 2X4s. They also installed a new wall heater in the master bathroom and quickly tested it and cleaned up their work area. We are so glad that we don't have to go through the hassle of bidding out jobs to several contractors, deciding which ones to go with, and then worrying about how everything will work out. Once we were able to start building, Jacob took over the project as my project manager. Jacob is an absolute rockstar and is truly so good at what he does. He's knowledgeable, assertive, and detail oriented. I always felt he really cared what my concerns were and genuinely wanted to make sure I was happy with every detail. We hired Mark Schoenfeld / Multi-M to completely remodel our 2 bed / 1 bath home to a larger 3 bed…read more/ 2 bath home with a detached garage. The first architects we went to came up with drawings we were unhappy with and the cost estimates from contractors were way over budget. We talked to Mark as one of the contractors who referred us to another architect. I took the base drawings already completed to save some money and had this new guy do new drawings. They were much better. It only took one more meeting and a couple of minor changes to get something we were happy with. Mark acted as the primary contractor with his employees doing some of the work and other work being subcontracted out with Mark overseeing and coordinating it. Estimates were all met and change orders given a price *before* work was started. There were *no* surprise charges. Mark always gave us plenty of notice of timelines where our decisions had to be made so work could done on schedule. The work that was done has all been very good quality and any issues that arose, whether existing previously but unseen, or work that needed correction, was all been handled satisfactorily and professionally. Our overall experience with Multi-M was excellent. We would hire Multi-M again without hesitation. There were delays in the project, but I do not blame Mark for them. He did a good job of keeping things moving with all the different things that needed to be done in the proper sequence. A couple of examples; we opted to wait an extra week or more for an electrician whose bid was significantly lower than another one who could have started right away. Another was a delay caused when the insulation contractors missed an area that made Mark have to reschedule the city inspector to a later date (inspection required before the drywall can be installed). Still another was the painting contractor losing an employee when our work was scheduled to be done. Honestly we expected a few delays and had told Mark we want the work done right rather than rushing just to get it done. Because the work being done was extensive, trying to coordinate between everyone is not something I think I could even do. Mark has been very valuable with those skills. So yes there were delays, but not the kind that are inexcusable at least. I am not a good reference for cleaning up after themselves because that is one thing I told Mark I could do though they did all the heavy stuff. Sometimes workers did not do enough cleaning up when they were supposed to but Mark would make them come back and do it. They were also very nice about taking other things I wanted to get rid of with the rest of the construction waste. I would have rather done a lot of the detail clean up than pay someone else to do it. If you want to pay the extra labor for that, I am sure Mark would take care of it. Anytime I asked Mark about cleaning up issues, he always handled it to my satisfaction. The best thing about Mark Schoenfeld is I never felt like I had to watch my back with him. His honesty and integrity are impeccable as far as I am concerned. The employees and contractors he uses have all been hardworking and never made me feel uncomfortable about their character. I highly recommend Mark Schoenfeld and Multi-M Contracting. Mark turned our old 1942 built 2 bedroom / 1 bath house with lots of maintenance issues into a effectively new 3 bedroom / 2 bath house with a new detached alley garage for what I think was a very fair price and all the work done up to code with all of the required permits. We are loving it and the quality of the work still shows in that we have had no major issues for two years now.
