Corey was an absolute pleasure to work with--she took the time to understand exactly what I envisioned and brought my ideas to life in a way that exceeded all expectations. The fault-line design was stunning and received compliments throughout the evening. As beautiful as it looked, the real surprise was how incredible it tasted. The homemade vanilla cake, infused with lemon zest, was moist and flavorful. The fresh lemon curd between the layers added the perfect balance of tangy sweetness, and the homemade buttercream frosting tied everything together beautifully. Not only was our cake a showstopper, but it was also one of the best cakes I've ever tasted. If you're looking for a custom cake that is both visually stunning and absolutely delicious, I highly recommend Kaylan's Kitchen.

I placed an order on their website earlier in the week for pickup. They also offer cookies, sourdough bread, and more. I opted for the $15 cheddar cheese and jalapeno sourdough bread. Picking up was easy, there was a cute setup on their porch. My name was labeled on it and the packaging was the cutest. The sourdough was delicious; I like to toast mine and add some avocado on it before eating it. If you're in the area, I highly recommend placing an order! I think you can just go on Saturday mornings to the stand also (check their website and social media for updates). Overall, definitely another great cottage baker!

I fired up the Yelp app, searched for bagel shops near me, and up popped Lola's Bagels. It turned out to be an excellent choice, because we sure loved our visit. We found them in a small shopping center with plenty of parking on East Main Street (Route 202). The dining room is modestly sized with four tables. We saw they have about a dozen bagel flavors (including French Toast and Cranberry), six cream cheeses, seventeen breakfast sandwiches (including Ribeye Steak and Roast Beef), twelve Specialty Sandwiches (including some cool names like Pastrami Crispy and Big Boy Cheese), plus muffins, hash browns, and coffees - plenty of coffee choices. Yes, they have a Latte, Cappuccino, and Macchiato, but what distanced them from ordinary bagel store coffees (at least in my mind), was the hit parade of twenty-nine flavored coffees - spanning the alphabet from Amaretto and Almond Joy to Salted Caramel and Sweet Irish Cream. We ordered at the counter from Leonora, a very engaging and friendly host. Our order was simple -an Everything Bagel with Veggie Cream Cheese, an Everything Bagel with Scallion Chive Cream Cheese, a small coconut coffee and a small Chocolate Banana coffee. Everything ran a teense under $15. Our coffees were made first, a few minutes later, our bagels were ready, so we sat down at one of the tables and dug in. My first observation was that the bagel itself was large and was served warm, as though it had recently come out of the oven. It had plenty of tasty Scallion Chive Cream Cheese. The combination of the warm bagel, the cream cheese, and the savory taste of the Everything seasoning and bits of scallions combined for a real taste treat. And when I took a sip of my coffee, my breakfast zoomed into another dimension because that Chocolate Banana Coffee was amazing, I mean it was terrific. I loved the distinct banana and chocolate flavors. As we enjoyed our meal, we saw a steady stream of walk-in customers and food delivery pickups. We noted that when a Grub Hubber or Door Dasher came in to pick up an order, the drinks were made in real time, not pre-poured. This meant the coffees would be delivered as hot as possible, and the cold drinks wouldn't be watered down by melted ice. There were so many nice things we experienced at Lola's. As far as a coffee and bagel spot goes, it was as good as it gets.

When it was my turn to order, I asked what kind they had and the woman taking orders said a few things, but all I heard was strawberry. In part because I don't have the best hearing, and in part because there is a plastic shield separating customers from the employees. I asked if she could repeat the types. She stared at me unhappily for about 10 seconds, seemingly trying to make me feel uncomfortable. I said I couldn't hear you. There was obviously a bit of an issue understanding each other, but it became clear that I was asking her to say the choices again. She ultimately repeated them. Complete with annoyed glances. After I heard the types, I said I wanted the strawberry. She said "how many?" I said just one because I wanted to eat it then and didn't need any for later. From her body language and the disturbed look in her eyes, I could tell that she was unhappy, that I was getting just one. Like I was inconveniencing her by making her put forth such effort for just one paczki. I responded that I didn't want it anymore and walked out. I can't remember the last time a person working in a business has been that openly rude to me. I'll never be back. 1 Star

So, when we visited the Dutch Epicure Shop, we had some high expectations. Epicure Shop is a righteous title, because they sell quite a bit of high-end epicure foods -groceries, soups, a huge deli, and a bakery with breads and pastries. They've developed a big reputation for their European pastries, breads, cookies and cakes. Yup, they make everything on the premises. As you walk around their store, you'll see German meats and sausages, Dutch and European cheeses, teas, jams, chocolates from all across Europe, and a selection of Dutch food and Dutch groceries. I was perplexed by the large selection of Indonesian foods here, but when I fired up the old Google Machine for an explanation, I learned that the Dutch ruled Indonesia from 1815 to 1920! Anyway, back to the food. We zeroed in on the bakery choices and picked up three items for $15. Our Blueberry Lemon Scone was pretty large and was topped with a delicate layer of vanilla icing. It tasted more of blueberry than lemon but was super fresh and delicious. The Almond Triangles were sold as a pair for $6. They were fantastic. Hidden between the sliced almond topping and a graham cracker-like crust was a sweet fruit layer that reminded me of apricot jam. These are addictive. The Raspberry Almond Fruit Tart was another layered treat with an almond glazed topping and a thin raspberry jam layer inside the tart. Our bakery treats were excellent and pretty reasonably priced for their home-baked quality.
