THERE IS ANOTHER BEST BUS COMPANY WITH REVIEWS ON YELP. THAT COMPANY IS UNCLAIMED. RELY ON THESE REVIEWS. This specific review is about Best Bus PRIME. Not the standard Best Bus service. I heard about the PRIME service which is basically an upgraded bus. The bus has single seats on the right and double seats on the left. The service is advertised to have tray tables. The tray table in my single seat does not work. I want to rate this service a 3 because of the tray table not working. The seat pitch (space between seats) is larger/longer than standard buses - which is true and is nice since I'm over six feet tall. One thing that's not advertised but I did notice was shades for the window which is nice. My window had them. Some did not. As others mentioned, the wifi can be spotty. In the age of cell phones and mobile hotspots, just be prepared to use yours in case the bus wifi goes out. The complimentary water was nice - but it was not cold/chilled. Just ambient temparature water. The timeliness of arrival always depends on traffic - so most times the arrival time is after the scheduled time (especially since Best Bus advertises 4 hour trip times from DC to NYC) - I have not seen arrival times within 4 hours - it's always later (sometimes up to an hour later). It's due to traffic though, not driver skills or service. Overall I do like Best Bus PRIME. Would I take it again - probably - if the schedule works. It only runs once a day - all the other services are regular Best Bus service. read more

I have taken the 5pm bus from NYC to Vienna, VA a handful of times. The seats are comfortable enough and they give you a bottle of water when you board. They have outlets for each seat which is helpful. The bus has always left on time but tends to arrive about 20- 30minutes late, I'm guessing due to traffic getting out of the city. I haven't taken other buses, so I don't have anything to compare it to. I will likely continue to stick with Best Bus as they have been consistent. read more

First bus I took was great. It was their own BestBus coach bus, no wifi but it was very spacious and comfortable With charging ports. Overall very good. The bus back, a dc trail bus they were using, was disappointing. Dirty, more cramped, less space, no charging ports, and still no wifi. read more

Absolute horrible experience. They informed me that the bus is cancelled due to some mechanical issues 30 minutes ago when I was already on the way to the bus stop. The cancellation email was sent at 6:28 PM and they arranged the next bus at 6:30 PM (2 MINUTES AFTER THEY SENT THE EMAIL) . I had to pay more for my next bus and that too at an inconvenient time and on top of that, BestBus does not have a basic decency to cover the expense of the new bus trip I booked, instead I was refunded the original amount as if they don't care about you what happens to you after they cancelled the trip. Save yourself some unexpected headache and don't book this bus. read more

I don't normally write reviews but after reading quite a few about the buses that do the NYC to Washington D.C. route, and seeing how poor the reviews were, I felt the need to write a positive one about my very good experience with BestBus. The bus was clean, had charging ports, free Wi-Fi and most importantly left on time and arrived not much later than was scheduled. The journey itself was also really smooth. No problems whatsoever. I have taken BestBus to NYC-VA several times. The majority of the times I have taken it, the bus was on time. The only time it was late was on the departure from VA in the morning, when it hits route 66 before Vienna metro station. Other than that, I haven't had any issues with departure and arrival. You really can't control traffic so it is what it is. They offer you a bottle of water when you get on - nice feature. Seats are generally comfortable, normal for a bus. Concerning the bathroom on the bus, I would recommend to always carry hand sanitzer (even though they have some in there) and your own tissue just in case (they had it but always travel prepared). There is wi-fi, however it is spotty and not very reliable. I am not sure why that is. There was one occasion where I received poor customer service, I called and complained, provided written feedback and they addressed the issue and quickly resolved it. For this reason, I am satisfied and I think they care about the overall customer experience. read more

I've been taking this bus to NY for a few years now, when it was once called "NY to VA" bus. Back in those days, it was always the same guy who checked us in. Now they have more staff to check us in. This process is pretty simple, where we just provide our name. I personally prefer they would actually check our tickets to ensure a little more "sense of security". I love taking this bus for the above reasons as well as the fact that I DON'T HAVE TO GO INTO DC!!! (that is a major plus for me). The bus stops at the Vienna/GMU Metro station, Manassas and Springfield. All passengers receive a bottle of water, which is a nice touch. Each row of seats have a plastic bag, which is very helpful in keeping the bus clean. There is also an outlet located in between the seats. The wi-fi is kinda wonky and not very secure; can't really stream Netflix, YouTube, podcasts etc., so it's almost pointless. I would suggest downloading the video/songs/podcasts for offline use. read more

The driver did say that they would make a rest stop in Delaware for 20 minutes they stuck by it.then the driver switch which was shorter than the rest stop in New Jersey. Couldn't afford the train so decided to take bus. The price was on point considering gas prices, tolls and parking in NYC. Pick up was on time to the minute. Actually think it took less time on bus than train. We only made on restroom stop for bus driver. Highly recommend taking the bus from VA to NYC. I will take this again over the train! Never again, not worth. Use another bus service, or better yet spend the extra money for the train. On a Sunday morning bus ride from NYC to Washington DC, the gentleman checking us in told us this would be an express bus to Washington making no stops. Two hours into the trip, the driver decided to make a "pit stop" at a rest stop that took over half an hour. An hour later, we stopped at another rest stop to switch drivers. Our arrival is delayed by almost an hour. Save your money and spend it elsewhere. read more

DuPont to Union Station to NY For the price, this definitely was a worthwhile trip. Objectively I'd say it wasn't horrible because I made the decision to ride the train a little further to the origin station (DuPont Circle) instead of waiting at Union Station where we were already behind schedule. Half of the outlets didn't work but it didn't affect me much. The ride itself was pretty fine but we were just getting more and more behind schedule and it was already a late bus so it was annoying to know I'll be getting home a lot later than expected. Usually the drop-offs are fine but one time we were doing circles around the block because of roadwork and it took 30 min to finally stop and unload and everyone was getting antsy. One thing I can confidently say is you will most likely be late (Up to 2 hours) and this is pretty consistent. READ IF DEPARTING FROM NY: You will definitely be late because most of the time the bus will be arriving very late to NY from DuPont Circle plus being late going back. I haven't taken this route back but I highly advise against it. Only do it if you have extreme patience and nothing important to do that day. read more

I've been a loyal and overall satisfied BestBus costumer for over a year. However, I was extremely disappointed after my 65-year-old mother had a horrible ride from NY to DC yesterday and customer service (if they even have any) has been full out ignoring me. The bus she was on was extremely cold even when she was bundled up in her down puffer. Some nice lady lent her her scarf. It was unexpected in the near 70 degree weather but my mother tried her best to keep warm. She asked the driver to increase the temperature in the bus multiple times only to be yelled at that that would not be possible due to a disgusting odor from the bathroom on the bus, which seemed to be due to ventilation issues. Other customers were complaining about the smell and cold as well. Knowing that the bathroom had a ventilation problem causing a nauseating odor on the bus, BestBus should have provided another bus on time instead of subjecting their patrons to unbearable travel conditions for 4+ hours. Also, the driver was not apologetic or accommodating of the passengers' needs. My mother has been complaining of a headache and chills since arriving. I hope this was a one time issue and look forward to improved conditions on future BestBus rides. However, I think any respectable business would compensate the passengers for the extremely unpleasant (and unnecessary) conditions they had to endure due to oversight and mismanagement from BestBus. read more

Great service traveling from VA to NY. Picked up on-time, even slightly early in Virginia. Practically an empty bus, which is surprising, but okay. Total of 7 passengers, which was great, plenty of space to spread out. Great driver, very friendly, kept us on time even though there was traffic leaving Virginia/Maryland and some approaching the Lincoln Tunnel. All in all, it was a good ride, a little bumpy at times, but you're in a bus so its to be expected. The bus was clean, no bad smells like other reviewers have mentioned. The bathroom was clean, bumpy, but then again that's to be expected. Very easy checking in, they put my luggage underneath and handed me a water and away we went. Getting off in NYC was a little dicey. Its right on the side of a street with traffic whizzing by. I only hope its a clear and not rainy day when I go back to Virginia. So far so good. A took a road trip visit from NYC to DC during the Labor Day weekend and chose this bus carrier as they ran a $10 special off round trip tickets. I've taken the following buses before: Megabus, Eastern, and Focus. Although BestBus is run by Peter Pan. PROs: * Low cost - comparable to the Chinatown buses with a promo or if purchased ahead of time. My trip was $50 * Clean - both trips had buses were not marked with the usual "Best Bus" markings so I think they were subcontractors but either way the buses were clean. * On time - the buses were at the stations well in advance of departure (30min?) so we didn't have to wait in the heat or streets compared to other bus lines. * Ease of boarding - in front of the bus is a Best Bus staff member who is like a concierge who will ask for name or phone # to check you in. No need for paper verification or even show the digital receipt. * Driving - the drivers were professional and spoke English. They weren't talking on the cell phone while driving nor driving recklessly. * Power outlets - both trips had power for any screen recharges. It was regular power instead of USB * Wifi - both had working wifi but does not allow streaming. * Water - free cold water bottles to prevent dehydration for a 4+ hour trip. * Customer Service - ease to reach out via phone or online for response. CONs * Bathrooms - one of the cleanest bathrooms. It doesn't smell but the return trip had a broken non flushable toilet. * Boarding location - other than boarding at Union City the boarding areas are not protected from weather. I was amazed by the departure trip to DC as we went from NYC to Union Station DC in less than 4 hrs 8 min ahead of time on Saturday morning on 8am. Coming back was good time also. Overall I highly recommend BestBus at this time although it's a challenge to maintain a high quality low cost service in this competitive environment. read more

BestBus is great. But this incredibly rude girl would not let me have the seat next to her in an almost full bus after I asked her nicely. She claimed she was waiting for a friend to board. Clearly she has no friends because the bus is now on the road and she made a bed out of her seats. Although I didn't complain to the BestBus employees, they should announce to folks NOT to take seats that they did not pay for. Sincerely, choose any other bus company. I booked BestBus for the route DC-NYC and it was a wrong choice. The departure had a delay of 15 mins. While there was no stop in the itinerary, the bus pulled into a random reststop, stopped for about 20 minutes and never made an announcement about why we stopped. So we caught rush hour and arrived on almost 2 hours later than the estimated time at NY. 6 hours trip with dirty, smelly toilet, where no lock, no paper, no lights.... I used to have a pretty good experience on this bus...so I became a VIP member (Also their website is awesome). The more I ride this bus the more I realize its flaws. Other bus systems seemed to take 4.5-5 hours in almost any situation. I'm not sure if this bus takes a different route, drives slower, or what but It consistently takes at least 5.5 hours to get to where I'm going. My recommendation is use Waze or something- take a look at Vamoose bus as a case study. At the very least they could change the estimations for higher road traffic times on the Bestbus website because it's not going to take 4.5 hours ever- always longer. I had this one experience with a really bitter driver. 8/28 at 6pm VA-NY there was a driver after the driver switch in NJ who absolutely refused to turn the air conditioning down, yelling at several customers and telling us that he's the driver and "everyone needs to sit down and shut up". He also noted a few things like air conditioning keeps the engine cool which almost anyone knows isn't true. I'm pretty sure this is a one person/one time occurrence but everyone of the bus was visibly peeved. For the most part I have awesome experiences with the people at the bus stops and the free water bottle might have been a gimmick that worked on me. My favorite experience was on 10/16 from Dupont Circle at 2pm- the bus stop guy was funny and the driver was nice (though the traffic problem was once again evident). Another note: The 3 minute driver switch ALWAYS takes at least ten minutes. The bus always votes to skip the rest stop but this essentially wastes the same amount of time if not more. However, if I ever catch one of their free bus tickets, the VIP pass will almost pay for itself...at least at the $30-35 Bestbus rates. read more

No way you can beat this deal. I think they do a nice job for the price. It's pretty seamless and non stressful. Bus pulls up about 25 min prior to departure and they load the bags and check people in on the list and you get on the bus. It's clean and most people were respectful of space and not annoyingly. I like DC2NY much better than Bolt. If the wifi on DC2NY doesn't work that's one more reason for me to love it, because I get sick of seeing laptops everywhere. At least let me get away from computers for 4.5 hours while traveling between DC & NYC In NYC, you catch the DC2NY bus in front of a place called Peep Show, which is hilarious, but there are also many places to get a last minute bite before getting on the bus at 7th Ave. & 33rd St. The A&H Food Plaza around the corner from the bus (on 7th Ave. between 33rd & 34th Sts.) has a place to sit in back, and they have a restroom, so it's a perfect "waiting room" for the bus. The DC2NY staff is helpful and polite. I do wish they would make the seats less cramped, though. read more

I had to visit my old friend in VA and I had to choose a bus company too. DC2NY was a good choice I made from the beginning of this trip. :) I don't know how wi-fi works on the bus, but actually it was one of the reasons why I chose this company. Cheap price(a round trip for $50!) and comfortable seats. If you are lucky, you will meet funny drivers. As what I was told, majority rule for everything! When I was going to DC, not many people were there, so the ride was good and relaxing. However, coming back on Sunday was bad. A guy from the company had some attitude! :S The bus was so packed, and this driver was making mistakes with the DVD player. :( In spite of all these, I liked the bus. Just two things to remember: 1. I've taken buses from NY to DC/MD and back hundreds of times since the early 2000's. Chinatown, Mega, Bolt, etc. Won't waste your time with horror stories here, but rest assured they include a roach infested luggage area under the bus, being left stranded in middle of parking lot at 2am as driver sat down to eat at nearby diner, numerous broken down buses on sides of highways, cancelled buses with no notice, insanely chaotic boarding, extremely late buses, road-rage-wild-ninja-indy500 drivers, defunct outlets, defunct wifi, rude drivers, etc. BEST BUS IS BY FAR THE BEST. Aptly named. Boarding is organized. No pushing or frustrations. Buses arrive on time. Buses leave on time. They give you a bottle of water. Outlets and wifi work. No surge pricing. They even tell you "liquids only" when using the bathroom. Amen. Friendly staff. Especially Mr. Frasier. I'm sold. read more

Bolt was sold out for the end of the long weekend so I went with the redheaded stepsister. Similar prices, but you get free bottled water! - The driver was really nice and professional. Sucks, but we were stuck in holiday traffic and delayed. If you're arriving in NYC, give yourself plenty of extra time because traffic in the Penn Station area is always horrible. - Express bus from Dupont Circle is very convenient if you're staying in the area. - People voted to watch a movie. I had a great experience with DC2NY in January of '08. I was headed to New York from Washington and a conference I had been attending was at Dupont Circle, so it worked out perfectly. (Well I actually came down from Silver Spring that morning, so it wasn't quite perfect, but I digress). I got there a few minutes early but didn't see a bus anywhere, so I was concerned it had left. But after awhile people started showing up and we realized that the bus was just late. It didn't show up for another 15 minutes and people started getting antsy. But finally it did show up, and they set up a cooler outside the door and handed bottled water to everyone boarding the bus. A guy stood by the door and checked everyone in. No ID was required, which was a little unnerving, but since they allow walk-ons anyway it was more like a bus/train ride than an airplane. The driver was a cool and funny guy. He did a poll of the riders to see who wanted to watch a movie. The movie of choice was Rush Hour 3, which I probably wouldn't have watched on my own time, so I was okay with it. The driver also told us there was a restroom in the rear of the bus, but to "avoid doing number 2 if possible" in there since they have to clean it out. There are four chairs near the back on the right, where two face backwards and there's a table in between them. This brat ran ahead of me and snagged it, but the joke was on her cause the sun was in her face the whole ride. The wi-fi was a little spotty, but was enough for me to chat online when it did work. I didn't expect any miracles and that was good cause there weren't any. The coach was really clean and new, and I was pleasantly surprised. The bus wasn't that packed at all, and I lay across three seats in the back row and napped most of the way. We had a brief stop somewhere in south Jersey before finishing the trip to 34th Street, which is great for connections elsewhere. I thought it was a great deal for $22. I had a good experience with DC2NY especially since I'd heard all these horror stories about the Chinatown buses between DC and New York. read more

Took this bus in early September. Going to NY was great. The bus driver was great and a wonderful driver. The bus was clean. The air conditioning was way too cold but after about an hour, the driver turned it warmer. The traffic was not bad so made a good time, Returning to VA, well we had the same driver and he was great again. The bus wasn't as clean in to NY. Then Best Bus changed the driver in MD. Well Best Bus had an inexperienced driver with someone to help him. This driver had no idea of the route who needed help constantly, who drove 10 to 15 miles below the speed limit (not because of traffic), kept turning on the windshield wipers when he meant to use his turning signal. Why Best Bus was using an inexperienced driver with a bus load of people is beyond me. I would give Best Bus a 5 star going to NY and a 4 Star until the bus changed drivers but gave a 2 star only. A few of the passengers were happy we made it in one piece and no accident. Also if you left something on the bus, and filed a report, you never hear from them. Ever. Strange, I posted about the lost item today, 12/29, and Best Bus called and said they found the left item. Almost four months from the time it was left on the bus. The reason the item was left, i was panicked and had to get off the bus quickly when we got to Vienna due to the inexperienced bus driver. Hope to pick up the item tomorrow. Received the lost iPad. Had to pick it up in a sterling. Happy. Why it took almost four months is unbelievable but it is home. Thank you for returning it. 1/1/2018 Today, New Years Day, Best Bus called and this same employee who I spoke with several times (who is a very dedicated worker) was very happy the iPad was returned and really understood the problem with the inexperienced driver. She said this should never have happened with the driver and assured me, this is not normal for Best Bus. Best Bus does have some good employees and the lost item was finally returned. read more

Wifi stopped working 5 minutes into the ride. I understand there's no refunds available based on that, but it's frustrating when the whole reason I booked a semi-premium bus was for functional wifi. Not taking proper COVID precautions!! When I booked the seats i was told bus would operate at 50%capacity. It was packed and there was no way to distance from other passengers. There were only about 5 free seats on the entire bus. I had to ask 5 people to put masks on and then had to ask bus driver to make an announcement. Even then people were taking their masks off to eat. It was terrifying! If I had known, I never would have booked this trip. On top of that bus was terrible. Picture showed leather seats, tray tables, leg room. There was none of that. Will definitely go back to only taking the train. read more

As a former Washingtonian who visited NYC A LOT, I thought DC2NY was far superior to any other bus service. I used this bus service as soon as they started, in 2007-2008. The Dupont Circle location was ultra-convenient to my Kalorama apartment. The free bottle of water (do they do that anymore?) and the electric outlets and free WiFi were a welcome bonus for a busy grad student. The staff was friendly and respectful and I always seemed to make it within 4.5 hours. This may be because I traveled in off hours since I know from experience that Friday rush hour rides are always going to take 6 hours. And why the extra star for DC2NY? It's the only bus service that I wasn't nervous about putting my mom on :) read more

I've been a bus rider since my college days and throughout the years it's gotten great additions..outlets, cable tv, and WiFi. However, this company didn't get the memo that if you're going to call your company a luxury ride...it should be somewhat luxurious. These are some of the tightest seats ever...my neighbor was almost on my lap...good thing he was good looking ...lol. The sockets being ever other row is another mess all together. They take a vote if you wanna make a stop or go straight and if there should be a movie and if so what. I suppose that's democratic but I can see it being problematic when people aren't into democracy. The crazy delays I don't count b/c the company isn't responsible for traffic....but it always seems like true agony when you're on a bus for more than 3 hours. read more

So taking a bus from NYC to DC can be so stressful I read so many reviews and tried a few of them as well. So far Best Bus is my favorite company. I mean nothing is ever perfect when you go by Bus, but their seats are comfy, you get water before you board, the staff is friendly, the bus we were on was New and the bathroom was super clean. I was staying at Du Pont circle in DC and took this back to NYC. I would rather pay a bit more for a stress free bus then pay less and get horrible service. The bus ride was very smooth and also I was surprised it wasn't that cold on the bus (normally I am freezing). Also each seat had an outlet. The only complaint is about the cup holders, they fall down too much and your drink falls out easily. Other than that I will go with Best Bus in the future. read more

Bestbus is comfortable, on-time, CLEAN, and offers free water and electrical outlets. I really appreciate when bus companies enable their passengers to take care of themselves (ie. trash bags hanging on chair arms for easy disposal unlike the sticky and goopy messes other transportation services suffer from). My real and only complaint is the restroom stall in the back. While both of my trips have had sufficiently clean toilets, I will say that the space dimensions were probably designed by a guy. Ladies beware of the cramped space, especially if you are not particularly keen in touching anything in there. read more
