You get what you pay for. Scratch that: you get less than what you paid for. I ended up at this cheap hotel because my host didn't want to spend a little extra for a slightly better option on the same block. Honestly, I would have gladly paid an extra $20 a day out of my own pocket for better service. All in all, I had a pretty bad experience here for the following reasons: 1. The washing machine was broken, and there isn't a laundromat nearby. 2. Both public computers were unable to print documents--which was a big problem since I needed something printed urgently. If you're traveling for business, I would not recommend staying here. 3. Interacting with a couple of the receptionists felt like talking to a zombie. When things go wrong due to the hotel's fault, a simple apology would go a long way. 4. The towels are so paper-thin that I dried off and still looked wet. 5. And while I'm at it, the pillows are just about as thin. 6. And yes, it is one of those hotels where you always have to sign in on Wi-Fi each time ... and if not, it is extremely spotty, sometimes working, sometimes not. Great A/C which is an absolute must in Florida. Would be 4 stars but I have been to hundreds of hotels around the world and there are key elements that are missing from this one for a higher rating. This may not hold weight with some but it does with me. A shower sprayer would be cheap and much more effective than a fixed shower head. This last bit is unfair because the U.S. hasn't caught up with the rest of the world. A bidet would have been amazing. Not an expensive one just the sprayer type that the majority of nice hotels have overseas (ALL HOTEL OWNERS TAKE NOTE!) They are literally $30 to install and way cleaner. That being said the room was clean and the building smelled nice. The staff were friendly so, overall a positive experience. read more

Lighting is very poor in lobby area - looks dark and dreary. Tip- turn on lights in breakfast room during the day to brighten the place up. Decided on a quick long Presidents Day last minute trip. Yes, spontaneous is my thing. Being last minute on a holiday weekend during snowbird season, my hotel options were extremely limited. Being a member of several hotel rewards memberships, I decided on this BW Plus, as shopping was also in the plans, and outlets are conveniently nearby. I had requested a quiet room, extra blanket and upon arrival discovered neither was provided. Near the Elevator room with old rusty and stained lamps. Only one toiletry item for three people, and no washcloths. Evening male staff was rude to another elderly lady looking for a room for her party and provided all of her discount options (AARP, BW, Military, etc), it was a substantial list. The clerks response, "you can take the room I have at $289 or leave it." I was told , "listen if you came earlier you might have gotten a different room." I booked several days ahead and made the request, wow. Back to the Plus designation, no, it's not. No hot tub, it's a smaller side pool, next to the pool, where you can sit in and it's not heated. Breakfast didn't have syrup, missing items normally at BW Breakfast bar. Internet was shoddy. Room was clean, but missing bed covers, stained sheets. I had to hunt down housekeeping for extras. Final straw was coming home from a day exploring to find our room door open. My PTSD was triggered and I was up all night waiting on someone to jump at us. Received a standard email with no name or phone number from a automated reply email. The two BW in St Augustine closer to the old city are much nicer and staff are amazing at the other two locations. So if you want to use BW Rewards chose the two BW without the Plus designation and save your money. read more

Awesome place to rest while on the road The hotel seems to have gotten renovated fairly recently. The room was really clean, comfortable, spacious and quiet. This is your standard hotel. Rooms are decent, they were clean which is what you want when exploring St. Augustine all day. The breakfast was a spread of pastries, bagels, and a few hot items. Now let's get to the reason I only gave this stay 2 stars. My family and I spent the day seeing all that St. Augustine has to offer. After walking around all day we came back to the hotel to take a dip in the pool before going out for dinner. Upon returning to our room we noticed that our door was not only opened but the dead bolt lock was out as if it were being held open for a reason. This makes me feel extremely uncomfortable in my room and makes this stay a lot less enjoyable and more stressful. I went to the front desk hoping to speak to a manager on duty but there was only the front desk associate. He came to the room to the room he told me that all WE needed to do was reset the dead bolt... nothing was said about the fact that one of the hotel employees completely left all our private property unsecured while we are away from the property. This is absolutely ridiculous! Update: We went the next morning to speak to the "manager" Petra about the incident. After explaining to her that our valuables were left in an unlocked room by the fault of their employee, we were told that it was "only one day". She also told us she had no way of getting in touch with the hotel manager, but then told us she would have him call us. Not sure when and how that conversation will transpire since she has no way of getting in touch with him. We've waited all day for this phone call but it hasn't come yet. read more

unexpectedly a very enjoyable stay! Never stayed at a Best Western before. The room was very clean, spacious and comfortable. Nice beds and pillows. I slept great! it's also a very quiet hotel, no noise heard in our room. Clean hotel throughout. Parking was great. The location is about a 10-15 mins drive to downtown which isn't too bad. The breakfast was not bad, bagels, waffles, biscuits eggs and sausage etc. The only complaint is that check in was rather slow and not enough seating for breakfast. After driving for a few hours, I just wanted to hop in the pool but it was closed with no explanation. Went to inquire at the front desk and the employee was unaware that the pool was even closed. The room had a slightly musky smell, so if you have allergies that are aggravated by such things, stay away. My allergies weren't entirely happy, suffice it to say. Also, if you are a light sleeper, stay away. You can hear the text message notifications from the adjacent rooms, if that gives you an idea of how thin the walls are. Staff was very friendly and helpful, however. Love love love that they use refillable dispensers for soap and shampoo instead of the tiny little bottles that run out so fast and are so wasteful. Honestly, I do not recommend this place at all. The room was full of ants. There was a trail of ants on the bathroom wall, the beds had ants.. I had to get a towel and put it on the bed and pillow of how gross I felt. There were some parts of the walls broken or taped. The only reason we stayed was because it was already late by the time we saw everything and we were so tired from the drive. We planned a longer stay but we left the second we woke up; couldn't tolerate it. It is a cheap stay but not worth it. This is the first Best Western I've stayed in. It's fairly close to the old town and right by 95. This is a motel. Came by motorcycle so it was convenient. Also a Publix close by. Check in/out was a little slow, but not an issues. The room was up to date and modern and clean. Stayed one night and didn't use the amenities. Maybe some USB ports. read more

After a recent stay at another Best Western I was reluctant to stay at any Best Western again. I took a chance and I'm do happy I did. To stay in town it was $70-120 higher than here. I usually stay in town but this hotel is only 15 min. away and you're right across the street from the outlets. It's the best of both worlds! It's only 2 floors and on the small side but for a place just to lay my head it was ideal. Everyone at the front desk we're professional and helpful. There was always someone there 24 hours and there was someone to assist with my suitcases. I received the exact room that I had reserved. The room itself was on the smaller side but certainly was sufficient. The linens and decor were modern with bright lines. It was absolutely spotless in every room! Bonus was a new electrical strip to charge your electronics. Housekeeping was available if you needed them and were helpful. The only thing missing was a fridge but for one night I could do without it. What a refreshing change of pace from the last Best Western I stayed at. It is Definetly not a 5 star hotel, but it serves its purpose. They let us check in around 11 am which was awesome! And the staff was very friendly. Room and bathroom were very very clean and no smell at all! The inside rooms look way better than the outside, we got a room with pool view which makes it better. It's located 12 min away from Castillo de San Marcos and all other attractions, so location is good. We got the hotel through Hotwire at a great price. I would stay here again. I'm giving 3 stars because the outside doesn't look like a 4 or 5 star hotel, but the rooms are definitely very good. And it's a green hotel, so thumbs up for that!!! read more

Not a bad place to stay. The rooms were clean. Beds were nice but the pillows were too small. You can hear other guests through the walls. Also their staff is kind of crappy. I was watching Comedy Central in the morning. But when I came back later that night to watch it again the channel was blocked because of parental controls. I called the front desk and they told me they would have it looked at. No one came and no one called to check up on this issue. Probably won't be staying at this hotel again. read more

OVERALL What can you expect from an inexpensive, dog-friendly motel? Stinky rooms, that's what...at least the rooms they allow for dogs. We stayed here because it cost less than other places, so we saved money, AND we were able to bring our dogs, saving us money on boarding. SERVICE Good. The flexible and friendly service/management made the overall experience not so bad. BREAKFAST The continental breakfast was the typical carb-fest with no meats but not terrible - there were hard-boiled eggs and sugary Borden yogurt, a waffle iron, and a selection of breads and cereals and juice. The breakfast area was mega crowded and tiny, though! THE ROOM Stunk, but we could breathe. Tiny bathroom. Damage from previous occupants' pets, including a hole in the wall. One bed had black dog fur on it and our dogs are white/cream colored, so I don't think they changed the sheets. Of course there were urine smells, but also a musty/mildewy type odor. But hey, whatever, there was a large nice TV, clean starchy towels, and overall it wasn't awful. LOCATION Not far, maybe 10-20 minutes, from most popular St. Augustine attractions. BOTTOM LINE If you need a dog-friendly cost-effective stay, this isn't your worst option. read more

We recently stayed during a convention in St. Augustine and this place was easy to find right off the interstate and easy to get back where we were going. Very close to Taco Bell and Denny's (walking distance) and actually pretty good rooms. Though we did have an issue the second night with the smoke detector, they came up quickly to fix the issue. Pros: Pretty comfy beds (me being pregnant this is an essential) Nice Clean room Good free internet (didnt drop nor did we have issues connecting) Good breakfast Nice well lit bathroom Cons: The breakfast area is SMALL, its hard to eat comfortably unless you eat outside the area. If you can afford it, eat at Denny's which is really good. No amenities, needs more than a hair dryer and coffee maker, please to put in a fridge? All in all it was worth the price we paid for it, and they are very reasonable with pricing and offer a military discount. They didnt disturb the room like we wanted and we werent disturbed much at night so its definitely a good place to stay. read more

Bathrooms have been recently updated & are Clean. Only problems: low placed shower head & no exhaust fan. Bed Linens are modern & fresh. Easy drive in to the historic district. Several fast food chains in walking distance, but the restaurants in the historic district are more than worth the drive. Check out Columbia. We were in room 217, 2nd room from the stairs and we could hear people loudly stomping on the metal stairs at 6am. On a recent stay, I work for a company where we need housing for a few months at a time. With that said, we hadn't stayed at a Beat Western in awhile, and I wasn't sure about the place at first. But here are some of the Highlights and Low points during our three month stay: Low Lights: 1.) if you are a person with neck, back or nerve issues, I do not recommend the beds. They are very stiff, blankets are thin, pillows not supportive. Bring your own. 2.) No Microwave 3.) Bathtub leaks/drips not fixed (we stayed in room 144). 4.) Front entry door sticks, hard to close. 5.) No air vent in any of the bathrooms. 6.) Rooms are small 7.) No comfy chairs or couches in your room for relaxing. 8.) computer chair and desk do not pair well, as the chair is too low and your PC sits up high to type. Not very ergonomical. 9.) Room walls are thin and can hear next door people. Highlights: 1.) Staff is friendly 2.) Housekeeping is available for any extras needed for your room. However, a few times the room was cleaned but the beds were not made. 3.) Updated tile in bathroom 4.) New carpet in rooms 5.) Fridge is available upon request. 6.) Very Clean 7.) Breakfast room is good, but wish they had more healthy choices besides carbs. 8.) Overall price you pay, is good if you want to shop at the Outlet, or got to downtown St. Augustine. read more

This was an ok hotel. Reserved a room with two queen beds. Checked in around 10pm & had a reservation on booking.com but I ended up paying more because the lady added more tax on to it. The phone in the room was broken, tv is very small, there was food under the bed from previous people. The bathroom is also very small. There was a weird smell in the bathroom. The walls are so thin you can hear everything. It always sounded like somebody was in our bathroom. You can what others are doing all night. The vending machines are broken. Would I stay again? Nope. So, obviously, the price for this hotel tends to be lower than that of surrounding hotels - and that should be a pretty good hint that there could be reasons for it. Mind you, I am not a hotel snob - I really don't care too much and think of a hotel as nothing other than a spot to sleep. I don't generally spend any more time in a hotel than is necessary to sleep. With this in mind, I usually look for a good bargain, don't care about a central location, and rely on good ratings in doing so. This hotel, however, certainly fell flat on it's face - or, well, the good reviews certainly did. The rooms, when just given a cursory look, certainly seem fine. They are updated and look fairly appealing. However, once you look a little closer, you'll find that much of it is just superficial and that there are quite a few unsightly areas in your room - stained ceilings, roughly patched walls, etc. You will get an old outdated under-the-window A/C unit that pumps out a mixture of cold air and moldy-smelling air, haphazardly mounted in an old and tired 80s' style motel building. Yes, the building has been painted, but really, it just needs to be torn down. You will also get a fridge, which I consider a big plus in any room. Oh, and you can bring your dog - which, to some of us, is a deciding factor. While others rave about the cleanliness of this hotel, all their assertions managed to accomplish was that I wonder what the heck their homes must look like. Sure, the hotel is not truly filthy, but not being super filthy seems a rather poor standard for success. This hotel also has a pool - but I cannot remember ever feeling so hesitant about entering a pool in my entire life. Had my little daughter not enthusiastically insisted, I would have stayed away. There were green algae spots all over, the water was murky, the drains had giant hair balls in them. Not my idea of an inviting spot. Breakfast is what it is at just about all US hotels of this category: A poor excuse and pitiful semblance of actual food. You would never serve this crap to any of your friends at home, but somehow, it being hotel fare, it is supposed to be acceptable. Yuck! I'd rather go to the nearby Denny's. Staff was friendly and helpful. In the end, we walked away wondering if we had managed to contract bed bugs. We did not, but it aptly summarizes our experience of this hotel. I would NEVER stay here again. In fact, I'm pretty sure this hotel will manage to keep me away from all Best Western hotels! read more

When we arrived for check in at 330, I was told the room wasn't ready. We booked 2 rooms that allowed pets and were told that the hotel didn't have that information, although our confirmations said we had pets. One room wasn't ready until 430. We were staying here for my brothers wedding and waiting on the room made us late. The room was clean and the staff was polite. This is the hotel we stayed at on our road trip. Last year we stayed at a Quality Inn and I ended up calling it "Lack-of-Quality Inn", but this place was unfortunately, not much better. This review is only for the room quality as I did not have any interaction with the service staff. The room size was alright and the room itself was clean and inviting. The negative points I have to make concern the a/c unit, which was way too noisy and therefore we left it only on the fan setting; the broken curtain drawers, which made it impossible to completely block off the view from the window and caused too much light to come into the room at night (my husband ended up tying the curtains together, which worked out fine, but should not have been necessary); the small pillows, which I am just not used to sleeping on (whatever happened to 2 regular-sized pillows being good enough?); and the stains on the sheet (don't even want to know what they were). Maybe I have just become a hotel snob (I love to stay at B&B's if we can afford it) or am too spoiled (daddy paid for our hotel room and more than likely used his AAA discount), I believe both are true. Anyway, I hope next year we get to try a different hotel as there are plenty in the area, but so far no luck in finding a repeat one. Maybe the third time's the charm! ;) read more

Got here via hotwire so... Read previous reviews, and I was looking forward to it. The property is right off I-95 southbound. In the middle of all the outlet shopping. Clean modern room, updated but simple. Easy to use air-conditioning was responsive. Very friendly staff. HBO and three bars on my Wi-Fi! So that was all set. I have been laying on the bed for a couple of hours now, it reminds me of the quality bed I had at a GW Marriott in Manhattan, at five times the price (and you could buy all of the beds and linens through a catalog at Marriott!). So I'm very impressed with the bed. Standard chain mediocrity to eat in the general area. But 5 miles down the road is what they call downtown St. Augustine, pedestrian vias and many little shops and restaurants, many locally owned I am sure. This was a nice hotel, the price was great! The rooms and bathrooms were newly updated and the beds were cozy. If you want to go to St. Augustine to see the sights, I'd recommend picking a hotel more in the city. This one is off I-95 and its a bit of a drive to get into the city. What we saved in hotel fees, we spent in gas driving back and forth. Next time I'll stay at the other best westerns that are actually in the city and you can just walk the whole time you're there, not drive back and forth. read more

My son and I stayed here for 4 days and it was a Great Stay ... I wish I could give it 10 Stars !! I was very pleased and impressed with how very clean the entire hotel was from the lobby, to the room even the bed was super comfortable, the pool and even the parking lot was clean. Beautiful all the way around. You are in the middle of everything and only a short drive to Downtown. The staff was wonderful, friendly and accommodating with everything and anything you needed. If you want to visit St. Augustine during the weekend, save money on a hotel, and are fine with a 15 minute commute to St. Augustine, this hotel is definitely a deal! My three friends and I stayed at this hotel one night during the weekend through Hotwire. The front desk was amazing from the get-go. They allowed us to check in 90 minutes early without hesitation, and when we got to our room we were extremely happy. The room was clean, comfortable, and had a pretty good AC unit. I did not have an opportunity to try their pool, but I did get to take a peek at their breakfast. It was typical hotel breakfast for the price you are paying. There was coffee, juices, milk, cereal, bagels, pastries, bacon, and eggs. The selection is great if you're traveling and in between locations, but we were on vacation and wanted something more and memorable. The only critique I have is that I wish the cleaning staff were a tad friendlier. read more
