A bit pricey... but good food. I had the duck pad Thai and although it was a little dry, still delicious

When I first spied this restaurant on an out-of-the-way side street in Bath, I have to admit that I was intrigued. There was something about the setting that just called out to me. "Try this restaurant," my inner foodie whispered. About a week later, I decided to give it a try. I found next to no information about it online, since the place opened only about a month ago. But from the moment I walked inside, I knew it was a good place. The food on the surrounding plates looked and smelled divine, and you could tell by the contented rumbling of the surrounding conversations that the patrons were all enjoying their meals. I was greeted with friendly smiles from all the staff, and you could truly tell that those smiles came from an evening filled with compliments and not complaints. After debating between the Pad Kee Mao and the Mango Curry for a while, I ended up settling on Tofu Green Curry. You can tell a lot about the quality of a thai restaurant in this one dish, so this is often the one that I use to check a restaurant out. In an inferior Thai restaurant, you'll find that the sauce is too thin, not flavorful enough, does not have a good balance of vegetables, or is lacking in enough basil. To get this dish right says a lot about the restaurant in general. It arrived a few minutes later, even though the restaurant was nearly full. The presentation was simple and elegant. I took my first bite--and it was absolutely delectable. Perfect balance of vegetables, both in taste and color, phenomenal curry sauce, sweet, flavorful, with enough basil and plenty of kick. Even the tofu was done to perfection. The help are attentive enough without making you uncomfortable, and you have a feeling of relaxation while dining here. I also like the simple décor - the only fault of this restaurant, if there is one, was that it seemed a bit too cold when I entered. It seemed to warm up the longer I was there, but maybe that was due to the delicious curry, which nicely warmed my chilled bones. Of all the Thai restaurants in the /Brunswick area, I like this one the best, with close seconds being Ni-da Thai in Topsham and Sweet Angel in Brunswick. No one is paying me to write this review, but I took the time to write it because I love this place and want it to do very well--so I can enjoy it for many years to come! read more

We are regulars for sure! Drunken noodle, basil leaf with tofu, orange chicken, and friend rice are our favorites.

I really enjoyed Best Thai. I'm impressed with how fresh their produce is! I've ordered now a few times and each time the food had been perfect! The fried rice that is paired with a lot on the menu is wonderful. They really know how to make those seasoning work for them! I highly suggest anyone in the area to stop by and try this place! read more

This place is great! My family lives nearby and every time I come to Bath I make sure to get dinner there at least once. I highly recommend the Yellow Curry, it is some of the best curry I've had! Amazing! It is easy to see why this place is very busy for dinner! Finally Bath gets extraordinary Thai food. I have eaten here twice now and the food is richly flavored and well presented. The ambiance is simple and low-key elegant. Best Thai 2 is now my most favorite Thai restaurant ever - and I have experienced really good Thai food in major cities all over the US. I gave them 5 stars for the food, but when they are really busy for dinner the service is spotty and slow, but I credit this to a period of adjustment as they adjust to their success as I write this in July 2012. read more

Authentic Thai in Maine, really! First I was so happy to see real Asians in the restaurant ( see my China by the sea review). We had the Tomka soup, the larb Kai, tofu pad Thai, and tofu pad seuw. All was very good. I would definitely be back. We are not vegetarian but love tofu from our vegan days and prefer it many times to meat especially in Thai cooking. Hours posted on yelp are wrong - Closed Mondays. I had the orange chicken and asked for extra crispy. I do not think they tried to make it crispy. The Larbkia salad was awesome and I will try to make this at home. The drink menu was weak. Only soda or canned iced tea. I wasn't impressed or disappointed. read more

am writing this review on the behalf of a fellow traveler who insisted that it be written. we were passing through on a long, long night drive and decided to stop seeking respite & food energy. it was pretty late on a sunday, and the driver (myself) was super grumpy. we got off the highway using our trusty yelp app and sort of doubtfully cowered into creepy empty bath, which we didn't know and was completely desolate that night for some reason. well, we made it there ok without any zombie attacks, but the food was so good it only served to put me in a food coma which made the long drive worse! the red thai curry was so delicious for such a simple little place that had all of zero yelp reviews! we loved everything we had. split the crab rangoon, which were the best either of us had ever had (one of us being a crab rangoon aficionado). the boy had a scallops teriyaki which i did not try but he raved about, then we had a mango sticky rice to really put me to sleep. ps - at a low point in my life, i worked at two thai restaurants consecutively and they were generally considered to be pretty good food-wise, but i liked the food here more. i was desperate and not cut out to be a waiter due to my dislike for behaving disingenuously toward just anyone with a wallet, so it made it even nicer that the waiter we had was sweet and efficient without all the groveling. all in all, best thai ii in bath, maine really appealed to both of our senses and i recommend. read more

This place is fantastic. They could use a bit of help in the decor area but whatever, I am there for Thai food not sofas and shiznit. The menu is not entirely dumbed down for some mid-maine goombas, they actually have larbkai and not "yard bird salad". We had the chicken satay, larbgai or larbkai, I forget. We had like one of everything and it was really fantastic. The service was great, the food imprinted a memory of this is some seriously good Thai food on us. We will be back. read more

Best Thai is the best Thai food in the area! The decor is nice and spacious, you won't be sitting shoulder to shoulder with someone else. The dining room has a good amount of sun and the space itself is fairly new in renovation; Best Thai has existed about a year whereas some Maine restaurants seem like time warps to the 90's. Everything I've had has been delicious and freshly made, from the scallion pancake (a special) to the spicy chicken salad (Larb Gai). I recommend trying the dumplings and a curry dish, although even Chinese fare such as Lo Mein holds its' own against restaurants in the area. Best Thai has a spice scale from 1-5 stars (mild to spicy), I tend to order my dishes all 5-stars, but when I'm really in a mood to get sweaty I'll order a 10-star instead. If you go that route, try the Thai Sticky Rice to cool your mouth off after. I at least tip a little better to the waiters who have to keep running back to fill my water glass. Overall Best Thai is a must-try restaurant for the Bath area, and a worthy travel destination for some of the best Thai I've experienced cross county. read more

Thai food in Bath Maine, really? After giving a side glance for a few days, curiosity got the best of me. If you want a savory, fresh, and filling meal that tastes like it came out of the orient, stop here. I got The drunken noodle with seafood, which has squid, scallops and shrimp in a spicy sauce over fresh vegetables, basil, and rice noodles. Serving size is very generous, but self control goes out the window for me here so I always leave with about an oyster cracker's worth of room left before hitting critical mass. I have been back many times now and is consistently good, fast, fresh, and hot. They will customize spice level and make it the way you want as far as ingredients go. The herbs that they use seem very fresh, expect they are Garden Grown- will ask next time. Recommend this and any of the noodle bowls. It is hard to choose from the wide array actually, all of it sounds, looks, and smells awesome. The outside appearance is deceptively plain, when you walk in you will find a clean well appointed restaurant- close, and elegant. Staff is always very friendly and patient. read more

This is the best Thai food in this area. The only equal is in Damariscotta and is owned by the same hard working family. Everything is fresh, well prepared and beautifully plated. We have tried a new item every time and it has always been great. There is no other Asian food north of Portland in the same class as this place that I've ever found. Despite the rave reviews, both here and from my friends, I was quite disappointed. When I entered, the waiter was fairly dismissive and just pointed me at a table (which was so out of level my water was almost spilling!). The complimentary soup had the potential to be very good, but the bowl was actually warmer than the soup! I suspect that they just popped it in the microwave and did not leave it long enough to heat through. It tasted fine, but it was almost room temperature. I ordered Thai Green Curry with white rice....the waiter forgot if I wanted white or brown rice within seconds and had to come back. The curry was actually pretty bad....wrong veggies in it (no Chinese eggplant, no Kafir lime leaves, a soggy mass of regular eggplant and some lettuce greens), and there was not enough liquid to even soak up the rice. I suspect that other dishes may be better, or if a customer has never eaten Thai food in Thailand, they might not know any different, but I don't think I'll be returning there in the future....definitely not for Green Curry, at least. read more

About 6 months ago, I ordered from this place and noticed at the register that I was charged more than the prices listed on the website. I complained about that and stressed that it was very important to advertise prices honestly. Tonight I decided to give them another try. Upon getting home and checking the prices, the EXACT same thing happened - one of the items I ordered was rung up at $1 more than the advertised price. I feel like when a restaurant knows about a problem like this for a long time and doesn't fix it, the operative term may be "fraud". BTW the food is only so-so. read more

Very poor business model. I called for take-out and was ignored. They advertise take-out but refuse to answer the phone. We drove out to see if we could eat there (after getting a babysitter) only to find they were closed during advertised business hours. This was Sunday evening at 5:45 PM. Not impressed. read more

Have dined here for lunch a half dozen times. The food is excellent. The soups are delicious and portion sizes are generous. Service is fast and friendly. Cant miss spot. I recommend the Volcano Noodle soup and Shrimp Shumai special. Both are excellent. read more

What a really pleasant surprise! We had dinner there last Saturday night, and have become instant fans. The atmosphere is is pretty, calming, and clean. The service is friendly, quick, and attentive. The food was yummy, and not run-of-the-mill. We tried the Tofu Rama and a couple appetizers, all of which were tasty. The portions were more than ample, and we managed to eat every last bite! And on top of all that, the prices are very reasonable! We will be back soon! read more

We've gone here many times. We always enjoy it, and spicy crispy duck is still a go-to for my man. But I've discovered that I am quite content to order from the specials menu. Some sort of larb gai (spicy chicken) creation that is spicier, zippier and has more cilantro. Fresh dungeness crab flash fried and served with garlic sauce. all i can say is wow! this place blew me away. we vacation close to Bath and my brother and i wanted to have thai. This was the only Bath thai restaurant so we decided to try it. when we walked in, we were pleased by the cleanliness and ambience of the restaurant. greeted by very nice young thai people. (very surprised to see that in Bath) seating right away. i ordered the spicy basil chicken dish and my brother got the duck pad thai. we thoroughly enjoyed our meals and could say it was some of the better thai food we've had. and the food came out so quickly we couldn't believe it. we will definitely visit again! read more

My wife and I really loved this place. We were surprised to find Thai food of this quality in Maine.

The Thai food here is mediocre. There is potential for the food to be good but unfortunately most of the dishes were either too salty or too sweet. We got the duck which was too salty, the Pad Thai that was overly sweet, and the Green Curry that wasn't very memorable. The two positives for the place was the service and the ambiance of the restaurant. read more
