I would go from time to time to pick up meats from Bests. A Friend of mine tried the SS pastrami at my house, after heating it for 1 hour per lb. at 225 degrees, he asked me to send it to his business in Fort Collins Colorado. His business is hot tubs and spas (spa world) he also sells pellet grills at his store. He had me ship him pastrami and he would cook them on a pellet grill on College Ave. and feed all the passers by to entice them into his store. He became the largest spa dealer in Northern Colorado. Unfortunately he passed in 2021. And his business no longer cooks Bests pastrami in the streets of Colorado. Both he and his cooking are missed by the people of Fort Collins. This daughter of a 65+ year long meat purveyor/ butcher is a vegetarian.... Well... until I had a craving for pastrami a few years ago and fell off the wagon for an occasional pastrami sandwich. Last night, my husband and I were missing my dad. We started reminiscing about the greatest Best's Provisions hot dogs and vacuum packed pastramis that he used to bring us. Needless to say... today I took a ride to Newark to Best's. I imagined my dad backing his truck up to the loading dock. I thought I was going to find a little store.... After someone kindly told me the "store" was right there behind the loading dock- I fortunately found a place to park my car and proceeded up the same stairs that my beloved dad used to climb. I bought a pastrami as well as 5 lb of the natural casing 8 to a pound hotdogs.... Just like he used yo bring us! Not bad for $59! ( FYI. cash only) My husband fired up the grill tonight and down memory lane we traveled! The hot dogs were an delicious as I remembered them to be! We wrapped and froze the rest... I'm guessing they won't have a chance to become freezer burned! Looking forward to cooking up the pastrami in a few weeks!! So worth the 45 minute drive each way!! Thanks for the memories read more

Many Jersey suburbanites, particularly from the Livingston and Union areas will remember two restaurants which have closed their doors: Syd's in Vauxhall, and Don's in Livingston. While Don's had superior onion rings, both places shared one particular item: the hot dogs. Their dogs were longer than usual and were made with natural casings, not some plant-based concoction. As a result, when these dogs are cooked, the casing seals in the juices (until they pop and split). So that's one plus. The other is the spices. They're not too salty and not too garlicky. The taste suited me just right and my family prefers these to all others. After some research, I found that these dogs were, and still are, made by Best Provisions. The plant is at the corner of Avon and Jellif Avenues and there is a retail operation on the Jellif side of the building. You'll have to climb up on the loading dock and then walk through the hanging plastic strip entry. At the retail counter they sell their own Corned Beef, Pastrami, sausages, and standard dogs. You have to ask for the Sid's dogs and they'll get them from their walk-in. They're available cryo-packed in two different quantities; I get the larger, 5-lb pack, which will give you about 24 dogs. Reserve 6 for immediate eating and freeze the remainder until the jones hits hard. The only plastic is wrapped around the dogs, so bring cash. This one is really simple. Best hot dogs period. This is the only place where you can get their natural casing dogs in various sizes. Stick with the standard 8's (8 per pound). The Best Provision Hot Dogs sold in the supermarkets are skinless and while ok..they are just not as good. You want THESE natural casing dogs. I stock up & vacuum seal in packs of 8. read more

best hot dogs i ever had. i got the 8 to a pound. it's 20 bucks even for 5 lbs. what a deal. these things will make you think differently about hot dogs...seriously. brush butter on a hot dog bun and place down on the pan until golden brown. fry hot dog until desired doneness (i like em nice n burnt). add a squirt of your favorite mustard and you'll have the best dog you've ever had. straight up. read more

I have been eating Best hot dogs for all of my life (I'm 65) and have always loved these dogs. I prefer to get them from the factory in Newark, NJ, as I can get various sizes, my favorite being the Don's dog. But for general use I get the 8 to a pound. The reason I didn't give this review 5 stars is becaus lately, the natual casing dogs have had a very tough casing. In some cases, almost impossible to chew. I plan on contacting the conpany to make them away of this issue. In all my years of eating these dogs, I have never experienced this problem before. read more

I love the natural casing # 5 Long and I enjoyed them for 12 years when I lived in Roselle N.J.07203 , I retired in 2007 and now live in Loganville Georgia , I don't miss the cold or the snow but the loss of my hot dogs on the grill makes my retirement just not as great as it could be , and I'm hoping that I can get your company to ship by UPS how about it you guys , help me out , I was born and raised in Newark 63 year ago. I must agree with David. I've eaten my fair share of hot dogs over my 37+ years and I truly feel that Best dogs are superior. I was raised on the Don's dog since I can first remember, first at the restaurant where it derives it's name, and second from my father who has been bringing and grilling these dogs to our Giants game tailgate for over 30 years. My daughter was eating her Best hot dog tonight, and asked 'Mommy, why is there plastic in my hot dog?" I was horrified to see a tube of plastic, over an inch long, wrapped around her hot dog! I tried to contact the company, but they only have addresses and phone numbers, but no email. It's Sunday evening, so I will definitely be calling them in the morning!
