Mistakes were made here. Way too carby.

Average pizza/sub place. I first tried the slice with penne on it but it was too overwhelmingly carby, no surprise. Have had a few hot sandwiches with chicken cutlet. They chop up the chicken on the sandwich, then assemble. I was confused to open my chicken parm to find it already cut up? The place is always packed so they're doing something right. Staff is friendly.

I have always thought that it was funny that this pizza place is called the Best Pizza on First. It's weirdly humble and less aggressive than other NYC pizza places that declare themselves the Best Pizza in NYC. I enjoyed this spot but wish there was more transparency on the menu. I wasn't able to find prices for any of the specialty pizzas and found that a bit annoying when trying to order and knowing what I would expect to be charged. The service is fast, though maybe a bit curt. There isn't really a ton of seating in the store, which is a bit cramped, so I would plan to get the pizza to-go. I ordered a slice of the buffalo chicken and thought it was good overall - nothing particularly mind blowing, but solid. Given the number of pizza places near me, this isn't necessarily my first stop but is a solid choice.

Love the name. They just flat out tell you they are the best pizza. I am not sure they live up to their name but they do have good pizza. Maybe renaming it Good Pizza would be better. The pizza is thin and not too oily. I could probably crush a whole pizza myself. I also ordered wings and they were nicely done. Perfect amount of sauce and not too much breading. Wings are tough to screw up but they do them well here. Best Pizza hit the spot and I would reorder from there. NYC is the home of the best pizza in the world and this place fits right in.

Great place if you need a cheap and quick slice on the go. However, hard to recommend over other slice shops nearby.

They sat us upstairs along the balcony overlooking the main dining room, and the decor... honestly, just look at the photo because I don't even know how to describe it The space used to be a church, and it is SO cool inside. Definitely not your average pizza joint. This place is popular -- there were plenty of people eating -- but surprisingly, our wait wasn't long at all. And even with all the bodies in there, it never felt crammed or uncomfortable. We ordered a small pizza and did half Shrimp Fra Diavolo and half Margherita. The Fra Diavolo had a little kick, but nothing crazy -- and this is coming from someone who cannot handle big spice The Margherita had just the right amount of basil and mozzarella, and that crispy crust was exactly what I wanted. Although there was no major cheese pull, it was still perfect. The small was plenty for the two of us and honestly just perfect. We also had a couple cocktails, which were delicious too. I always say NYC food pricing is kind of deceiving. You look at the price and go, "Ummm..." but then the food comes out and you realize they give you A LOT. Definitely felt like we got our money's worth here. Great pizza, really cool atmosphere, and a fun first NYC pizza experience for the husband. Happy Eating, Chass

Bustling doesn't seem to fit, it was packed to the gills. John's is extremely spacious, and even with that much space, we had a substantial wait. The wait was worth it though because they know how to do pizza. The crust just crisp enough, the sauce flavorful, and the toppings plentiful. The service was friendly and quick given the number of people there. For my first trip to NYC, I'd make this a traditional stop for future visits.

Last year, I was at Nothing Really Matters, the bar next door, with a group of friends. Someone ordered pizza, and I had no idea where it came from. I just remember thinking, "Wow, this pizza is really good." That memory stuck with me, so when a friend and I decided to stop by See No Evil Pizza yesterday, I was excited to finally visit. I didn't realize reservations were recommended, but thankfully Ariel, the host, was able to fit us in. Ariel was fantastic - he was friendly, welcoming, and so accommodating despite us showing up without a reservation. Ariel provided excellent service from the moment we walked in until we left. I didn't take any photos, which I now regret, because their pepperoni pizza was salty, addictive, and just really, really good. The pepperoni was crisp, the crust had that perfect char and crunch, and I couldn't stop reaching for another slice. The restaurant is small, cozy, and inviting. If you've been thinking about checking this place out, go for it. You won't regret it.

To drink, I ordered an Aperol Spritz, though you will want to double-check with the staff since a few of their other cocktails are not gluten-free. We started with two fabulous drinks: An Espresso Martini and their signature Limoncello Margarita. We shared the Shaved Brussel Sprout Salad and it was fabulous. The bits of bacon, combined with the spiciness of the pepper spices, made this a perfect starter. The entree was also shared and it was the Spicoli 2.0 Pizza. I cannot recommend this pie, enough. You will taste flavors that you've probably never experienced before with a pizza. Also, the different textures of the arugula, creaminess of the cheese, and the perfect crust will make it a memorable selection. For dessert, we shared the Buttermilk Panna Cotta. RIGHT BY THE DOOR. Do people not realize that putting a bar near a door on a freezing cold night benefits no one? Good thing I did not order alcohol or I would have froze to death. Seriously, none of the pies stood out in grand memory. All I can think of is, well, nothing. Nothing positive anyway. The names of the pies are funny, and the staff is friendly, but besides that, the quality of the food for lack of a better word, dare I say it, sucks. Hoping to salvage the meal, I ordered their Chicken Parmesan. It was the Hail Mary pass that unfortunately did not connect. The cutlets are overcooked and dry, and the red sauce cooked with it has minimal tomato flavor. At least the spaghetti is cooked to a nice al dente and mellow garlic butter flavor, but like the sauce cooked in, it is also minimal. Part of the problem I feel is they are trying to go for a vibe that has a New York and modern feel. It does not work. Stay true to one or the other. Or at least look at other business models. I will use another pizzeria in Bushwick that exemplifies it perfectly. It is a hipster pizzeria in a hipster neighborhood. Through balance, it creates an ambiance both welcoming and warm without losing any of its Bushwick character. It does this by not beating you over the head with hipster vibes, just enough to let you know that you are in Bushwick. The band Franz Ferdinand was playing as I was wrapping up. Rather than take the pizza out, I suggest you throw it out. Overall pizza rating: 1.7/5

The first thing you notice is the main bar wall, with its exposed centuries-old brick that has survived every bit of chaos this city could throw at it. It's subtly backlit from with a warm, amber glow that highlights every single historic groove and imperfection, making the whole room look like it's breathing. I have to say the centerpiece of the entire narrow room is the bar itself, and let me tell you, it is an absolute stunner of a contrast. Instead of the usual dark, sticky tavern wood, they've dropped in a long, continuous slab of pristine, elegantly smooth white stone. It glows under the soft lighting like a block of polished marble. There are no strobe lights and no obnoxious, skull-rattling bass in this joint. Instead, the room is wrapped in a blanket of incredibly chill music that matches the pulse of the room perfectly. It's just loud enough to drown out the noise in your own head, but quiet enough that you don't have to scream over the smooth white counter to be heard. People aren't here to be seen on TikTok; they're here to disappear for an hour or three. You slide into a chair, order a proper Old Fashioned from a bartender who doesn't rush the pour, and watch the ice melt against the amber-lit brick. It's the ultimate underground exhale--a perfect, narrow slice of peace in a city that never shuts up. Cheers!
