Cheeseburger
Connor L.

The ambiance alone was nearly enough to rank this spot 5 stars, but we all know what we're really here for. With the recent explosion of restaurants who use "smash burger" to describe a thin floppy patty that's never been on the wrong end of a steel hammer, Best Intentions stays true to the name with a crispy and delicious patty that smokes the competition for its price point. Next time, I'll definitely be ordering 2- not because the burger and fries wasn't enough, but because I inhaled the burger without hesitation. Greasy, satisfying, and sauced to perfection, I've got no critique whatsoever. The fries were similarly rated, the kind of paper bag fries you grab by the fistful because 1 or 2 at a time simply doesn't do them justice. We got takeout, and service was fairly quick- gave us about 10 minutes to stroll about and see many of the decorations along the walls of the bar, which I recommend checking out as well.

Local bar favorite that has cozy dive bar vibes and tiki bar patio. Banju: Light and refreshing. Very strong! I got a local shot...cannot remember the name of it. I befriended a regular goer and the bartender. not sure the second drink but it was gin based and super nice to drink. I would definitely comeback for when the next time I'm in town.

My kind of place. An unassuming place on the outside but screams old school corner bar when you enter. Darkly lit, with lots of vintage bar mementos on the walls. I took a spot towards the back of the bar and was quickly greeted by a super friendly bar tender. I enjoyed a couple of good bargain Old Styles and soaked in the environment. My ultimate reason for stopping here was for their cheeseburgers which didn't disappoint. Priced fairly at $6, they are somewhere between the size of a regular burger and a slider. I got two and was well satiated. Great taste and truly a smash burger. Do stop by if you are in the neighborhood or are looking for an excellent burger.

Came here on a Friday evening around 6 and it was pretty packed and very lively but we were still able to snag some seats at the bar. Burger was delicious and the bartenders were so nice. Loved the matzo ball soup too.

I didn't have food at this bar, but I can tell you that you'll be greeted as soon as you walk in. I was served by Ricky--while I'm sure all the staff are great, his specialty cocktails will make you second-guess ever making drinks at home. The cocktails are made with fresh ingredients, and the bar also features a patio and old-school games. Visit this bar and see why it's a fancy cocktail bar for a reason.

Such incredible burgers one of the best in the city, I love the bar so much it's such a fun spot anytime of the day. Only one bartender that's a jerk so still highly recommend.

Place was ok but this honestly isn't my cup of tea drink was ok, had decent balance & I loved the prices. It'll cost you double these prices to drink anywhere near downtown & those place don't have the accolade this place has. An article mentioned a mint drink but I didn't see it. You have to stand at the bar & stare down the bartenders similar to my younger club days which is annoying but the staff were fast & efficient to say the least.

Best Intentions A very quirky laid back dive bar with great cocktails! The bar was very busy when we were there on a Friday night.  They're the only bar in the world that services Angostura which tastes like a bitter saffron spirit. They do a great job with making the classic cocktails. I wish it wasn't so busy where we could have chatted with the bartenders at the bar, but overall it was a great space to drop in after a dinner out.

The 2nd stop on our Armitage bar crawl was Best Intentions. I had seen this place on the Gram for their $6 burger. You could easily pass this place if you did know as there isn't any signage. It just looks like your typical old school Chicago dive bar. When you walk in that's exactly the vibes you get too. The front is packed, you have video slots luminescent beer and liquor signs. If you keep walking to the back there is a patio area with plenty of large tables and benches. There are some communal tables a well. Some of the tables have coverings which was nice because it there was a light sprinkle the night we came. We ended up ordering burger, a cup of shrimp and fries. The burger was superb and had no reason being that great of deal. The drinks were also ridiculously good. The Horchata marg was out of this world. There was also this mezcal drink that was smoky and *chefs kiss*. Even though this place was packed, I can't recommend it highly enough. Easily one of my favorite Logan Square establishments.

I tried, but I can't get to a 4 star rating. I did enjoy the burger though next time I'll sans the joppiesaus. I don't think the curry flavor works with the burger. Pass on the overcooked CUPPA SHRIMP. Service has never been the friendliest for me and the drinks are average considering the standout cocktails in the neighborhood. 3.45 stars.

I was excited to try this place as it's received high acclaim and it is alright but didn't wow me. Been twice. The Reuben was disappointing. Sizable, yes. Missing some sauce to give it moisture and flavor. Was a little bland. Would go back for the matza ball soup, BUT this is a little TOO salty. Salt seems to generally be a theme here - we also had the port wine cheese, which we couldn't finish, but maybe that's expected for two people. I did enjoy the champagne cocktail I got, but my partner tried their old fashioned and wasn't impressed. Bill came to ~$53 for dinner and a drink or two. We sat outside both times. Communal tables aren't for everyone. Still, a good, low key vibe, but not necessarily better than other places that are closer to home for us.

Really creative cocktails, unusual wines, great snack list (and the complimentary olives and cheese made us able to stay longer add have another round!). Too hard to choose so why should you? There are low and no ABV options as well to balance out the martinis and other spirit forward offerings. Because of that, I decided to stop by again on a recent Sunday evening around 7pm. The second visit was completely different. We got there early, knowing it would probably get busier later. Even so, tables near the bar stayed open the entire time we were there. Instead of seating us up front, they put us in the back area by ourselves, where there was no dedicated server. We basically had to wait until the bartender happened to look over and notice us before we could order. He was friendly when he came by, but having to rely on random glances from the bar is not how service should work. The drinks themselves were on the sweet side but acceptable. The bigger issue was the seating and the lack of attention. We were left alone in the back while open seats closer to the bar remained empty the whole night. I don't want to assume the hostess or manager treated us differently because we're Asian, but the decision felt strange and left us without real service. That person should be retrained or let go. Given how good the first visit was, this one was disappointing enough that I won't be coming back or recommending the place.

That is to say: I am not throwing words of praise like "one of a kind" and "phenomenal" around lightly. Both are different and still amazing. Sparrow has a vibe straight out of the 1920s. The decor, signage, use of color, and absence of screens or TV's all contribute to the theme. The music is also appropriate and plays at the perfect volume to be pleasant without forcing one to raise their voice. I tried the Green Daisy and a House Old Fashioned. The Green Daisy was boozy and had some herbaceous notes. A little tartness and a little sweetness helped balance the drink out and make for a phenomenal sipper. I loved the creativity with this one! The House Old Fashioned was also well done, assembled with quality ingredients in balance with one another. Nothing wrong with a well-executed classic. The prices are more or less reasonable considering the location and overall market, with bevies costing around $16. The bar staff is excellent! Very friendly and welcoming! Final verdict: A spot where I can say come for the drinks and stay for the vibe. It's the kind of place where walking in you are transported a century into the past. Everything about the experience, including the atmosphere, drinks, service, and prices, is calling me to return and bring some people with me.

It has very comfy seats even at the bar. Their happy is great and is available everyday except Mondays when they're closed. Their lychee martini is really good and comes with cotton candy on the glass, which I really love. My partner rated this 8.5/10. Their espresso martini is pretty good but the Carajillo martini takes the cake. That's my go-to drink now when I visit. I also tried the Sakerita flight, which is a margarita made with sake. The Sakerita flavors were strawberry (8/10 made with real strawberry puree) I think it could've been less sweet, cucumber (7/10 the cucumber puree is strong with this one), and passion fruit (4/10). I usually like passion fruit but this one was really bitter and sour. The chicken Karaage was perfectly crispy and juicy but I didn't not like the dips that came along with it. But I'm not a sauce person usually so take that part with a grain of salt. The Quesobirria rolls were perfectly seasoned and juicy. The consomé dip was sooo good and flavorful. I don't usually like birria but this is immaculate and I definitely recommend getting this. The outside was also very crispy but not too crispy. The tuna pone tacos were immaculate. No complaints. I love this spot and I'm ready to become a regular here.

With mixology being all the rage for the last 20+ years, I almost feel like it's hard to come up with a new drink concept these days. Truce shows that creativity in the world of booze is alive and well, and I count myself lucky to have had a taste. The 'Peas + Carrots' was a surprise win. Scotch, blanco tequila, sochu, carrot, snap pea, ginger, and kukicha. Sounds bizarre as hell, but it absolutely works. I also had a 'Final Say,' a spin on a classic featuring gin, clementine, fino, galliano, turmeric, black pepper, and lemon. The 'I Can't Believe It's Beer' has everything from mezcal and rooibos tea to guava and an aperitivo. I could ramble on about their menu, but I'd say just check Truce out yourself. You get what I'm saying. Their creative juices are clearly flowing, and they switch the menu up seasonally. They have some light bites too, but I really recommend them for cocktails and coffee. I wouldn't come here for dinner. They do drinks, so come here to drink. Plenty of very savvy-sounding N/A options, too. It's sleek, intimate, sexy, relaxed, and fun. Come through at 8 AM for a cocktail, roll through at 11 PM for a coffee, there's no judgment here. I'll be keeping an eye on Truce.
