I am posting this meh review because of the experience that I just had trying to schedule United Handymen for another job. I emailed them more than one month before I needed handymen to show up, and asked to confirm availability three weeks in advance to paint an apartment before tenants move in. After that, I emailed several times to schedule a walkthrough and confirm availability. My emails were largely ignored. When I finally called to schedule the walkthrough -- one week before I needed them to show up -- I was led to believe that the job was on. It was only after I wrote to UH confirming the dates for the walkthrough and the job that I was told that they could not commit to either due to being booked on other projects. I fully understand that contractors get booked, but no one ever told me that they could not do the job, and I wasted three weeks when I could have been looking for another contractor. I have to paint an apartment and build a closet in four days, and I still don't have anyone hired to do it. United Handymen put me in a really bad position, and their response was to deny that they had ever confirmed the job dates. Based on my experience with Cesar, they are good handymen, but I would not hire them for any jobs where it's important to count on the contractors actually showing up for the job on the dates that you book, or where deadlines are involved.

They do beautiful work at reasonable rates, and they get it done quickly. Our original-with-the-building bathroom now looks and feels like the luxury hotel bathroom of my dreams. As first time homeowners, we didn't know what to expect from the renovation process, but their patience and expertise made it as easy as possible. 100% recommend!

They are just 2 guys that I found on craigslist but they do a great job. They have a minimum fee of $125, so if you need a bunch of little things done, its a great deal. The only reason I'm giving them a 4 is they left a bit of a mess after they did my invisible wiring in my wall from the drilling, but for such a great price, i can't complain. So nice and they will work in the evenings as well--had them come on a Friday night to mount my TV and have some paintings hung into my brick walls and they did an incredible job. Then they came back the next morning to do more!

Suffice to say it was an assorted list, and they tackled it with ease and at a great price. In fact, I felt that they worked so well and efficiently, that we ended up paying them $100 more than they charged us. I highly recommend them. The missing star from the "Five Star Review": There was a third person with them (not of the J & A duo) and he tended to talk a lot, slowed the process down and seemed a bit absent minded. However, that said, this nameless third person did a great job as well.

I would highly recommend Kellam as he is knowledgeable, thorough, and very professional.

I hired NJH to repair damage to a restored antique mahogany staircase in my house…read more The newel post at the end of a section of the banister had separated from the handrail and was loosed at the base. That made this section of the banister wobbly, unsafe and prone to further damage. Prior and now failed repairs with mastic and nails were an eyesore and calling for further restoration work. Ben with Kellam's supervision closely conferred with me how to do the best structural and cosmetic restoration of the banister. They dismantled the newel post from the handrail and the mounting of the post to the staircase frame, and removed old nails and mastic from the post rails joint all without damage. To remove the post, they had to remove stapled carpeting and a stair tread that they replaced without damage at the end of the job. They very securely remounted the newel post with corner backets under the stair tread and long bolts into its base covered with matching round plugs. Having so securely remounted the post and restoring the post to rail mortise and tendon, the handrail was solidly secured without the further use of mastic, nails or screws. With a few touchups to old wood putty, they then managed to remove obvious evidence of prior repairs. As this section of handrail may need a restoration replacement to match the quality of the other staircase handrails, their method of reconnection rail to the post will allow for less problematic handrail replacement without damage.
