I've been holding off on writing this review because I don't want to spoil this amazing hidden gem for myself, but it's only fair! Selenge is an amazing tailor and works hard to turn garments around quickly for her customers. She is patient in listening to what you're looking for in your tailored piece and also willing to give seasoned advice if you might be asking for the impossible or something pretty far out there. Selenge tailored my fully beaded and very complicated wedding dress beautifully and gave me great advice on what was possible and not to do with the garment. She also successfully tailored several more simple pieces that I needed taken in/out super quickly and well! Pro tip- make an appointment! Selenge has a lot of customers, and making an appointment is the best way to ensure your time with her. Personal tip - I have seen one too many fussy customers come in demanding time and immediate turn around on garments...tailoring takes time! You are not the only customer! Selenge promised she could take in the top of an evening gown I brought to her urgently. I said it was okay if she couldn't touch the top and that I primarily needed the hemming (length) done--I had 8 business days before I left for the wedding. However, she said she could do it and I agreed to pay a rush fee. I paid $169 for her to ruin the top of the dress with the sloppiest stitches ever. It's completely uneven and the worst part was that Selenge got mad at ME for pointing out the condition of the garment. Said she should've told me she couldn't do it and it was my fault for "rushing into her store". She gave me a measly $45 back and I am waiting on the rest because when I got home I also saw the hemming was uneven, too. I am livid, and am in disbelief at the interaction. I was so surprised she was upset at me to begin with, and then had the nerve to say "she didn't say it would be good or even." IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING SPECIAL, OBVIOUSLY GO ELSEWHERE! Selenge is wonderful. I am so glad I stumbled across her shop on U Street a few months ago. I brought in what I thought was going to be a difficult wedding dress for her to alter, and she tailored it perfectly in less than a week. I then decided to get another dress for the reception which needed a few inches off, and she did that one in two days and was even thoughtful enough to leave extra fabric on the inside so if I need to tailor it again in the future I can. She made my husband's suit look like it was custom-made by removing the belt loops and slimming it throughout. Her prices are very reasonable and her work is amazing. She is the sweetest, most hardworking woman. She is from Mongolia, studied fashion in Czechoslovakia, and came to America shortly after. So I had a VERY good experience at Best Fit Tailoring but I have an issue with the way things cost. I got a dress from online that was floor-length for a wedding and since I can't wear heels because of my disability, I had to wear flats and the dress became too long -- but very slightly so. I dropped off the dress on a Saturday and wanted to pick it up the following Wednesday. They were super accommodating but I feel as though communication was lacking. I was unclear how much it was going to cost, and she made me feel like I shouldn't be getting it tailored because I should just wear heels. Anyway, when I came to pick it up she told me it was very easy for her to do but charged me $60. I almost spent as much on the tailoring than I did on the actual dress (a little bit of an exaggeration) and since it was so easy for her maybe it should have been a little cheaper? I don't know how tailoring usually costs because this was my first time seeking a tailor myself, getting it done, and paying for it -- so I absolutely could be completely wrong, but it felt too expensive to me. The job was flawless and I was very impressed with the way the dress turned out. Next time I'll have a better idea of how much it will cost and not be so surprised. The woman is nice but wish there was better communication. NOTE: the business contacted me to correct my original review that said I was charged $80 -- I was actually charged $60 and I think I was frazzled but my boyfriend said we did get the price when I dropped the dress off. I apologize for the mistake and misrepresentation. Other details are accurate and there was a lack of general communication. Now it might be a little awkward but I'd definitely come back and happily pay the price because now I have a better idea of how much it'll be since it'll no longer be my first experience. This is the best tailoring/alterations store in DC. I had two dresses that needed to be taken in and they were very intricate. They were NOT simple dresses. She did an amazing job. Best fit was so good last year but feels like it's gone downhill. I wanted a simple zipper replacement and they refused to do it. They kept insisting that there was nothing wrong with the zipper and dress had shrunk, but I had just worn a week prior. Last year, the owner was patient and great with alterations, but today was rude and clearly couldn't wait for me to leave. I'll look elsewhere. read more

Needed a dress taken in and shortened, found Best Fit on Yelp. I made an appointment for the next week, and it couldn't have been smoother. I tried the dress on and Selenge pinned it to take in at the top and shorten it. The dress was ready the same week, and it fits like a glove !! Highly recommend, and well priced! They're abiding by all covid regulations, and I felt incredibly comfortable while I was getting the dress pinned. Selenge is amazing! I had a difficult request to convert a typical lapel suit jacket into a mandarin-collar one and she converted it deftly. She matched the colors expertly and added a stylistic embellishment to the edges to make it looks seamless and as if it had been made with the mandarin collar to begin with. I didn't end up buying a suit or having mine tailored here. But, they were incredibly helpful in determining if my current suit could be tailored, or if it was better to just buy a new one. In the end I bought a new suit, but at a cheaper store. Their suits looked great, but I don't wear suits very own so didn't want to spend that much on a new suit. read more

An Amazing, Attentive Tailor! I moved to DC in March of 2021 from Connecticut and needed a new tailor. I started with hemming some casual pants before returning to her not once but two times. Finally, I trusted Best Fit Tailoring with two of my merino wool suit pants that needed a waist increase after a good job on the casual pant hem. Best Fit Tailoring not only took the waist up two inches, but her experience and expertise led her to increase the circumference of the leg and leg opening - all in proportion to the waist increase! After going to multiple bridal alterations boutiques and getting quoted outrageous prices just to hem and take in a simple wedding dress, I found Selenge at Best Fit Tailoring and it was one of the best decisions I made for my wedding planning process. She did all of the fitting and pinning herself (which is helpful unlike some other places where one person pins and the other does the alterations), so I felt like she really knew all of the things that needed to be done to ensure a perfect fit. When one reaches middle age, they often discover that their 8-year old suits neither fit or are stylish. After giving away six suits, I decided to have my overly baggy pleated pants for two Brooks Brothers suits altered by Selenge Luvsan-Ochir (the owner and master tailor of Best Fit Tailoring). I am very happy that I did. The suits seem like I just bought them; the price for the pants was very reasonable. The work was completed in two weeks. Long story short, I am a woman and had a men's suit from work that I needed to get tailored. The tailor here clearly did not want to help me and made me feel terrible. She kept repeating how it was a men's suit and it looked wrong and continued walking away from me. Finally, when I asked if she felt I needed a different size pants she said "It's all wrong and will not look good. I cannot spend any more time on this" and walked away from me. I'm aware it's a men's suit and does not fit well, that's why I went in for help. This is a uniform assigned from my job so I have to make it work. It's almost 2020 and women wear suits... it's fine if you can't help but I already felt nervous, there's no need to put me down. I left frustrated, embarrassed, and feeling defeated. Selenge did an amazing job on my Rebecca Taylor dress! I can't even tell that she fixed it except that it now fits perfectly on my hourglass figure. Whenever I purchase a dress I normally have to size up to accommodate by bottom half leaving an overly blousy top. Such was the problem with the dress I took to Selenge. My initial assessment on fixing the top was to take in the sides. Selenge suggested that we take up the waist in the back instead and showed me what the end result would look like. I'm so glad I relied on her expert opinion because the dress is a delight to wear. Furthermore, she figured out after I left that the front needed to be taken in as well. I found Selenge on Yelp and she was available the same day for a fitting. I brought in 2 suits and explained what I wanted. When they were done I was so impressed with her work.
