Went to a buy a snail companion for our betta fish and was dismayed by the lack of mask wearing amongst the staff. Some staff had on basic neck gaiters (which don't meet state requirements for mask mandate) which were at times riding below the nose and one guy was just chillin behind the counter without a mask at all. Would definitely not recommend visiting during covid. read more

I purchased 5 fish from best fish in less than 24 hours two died another died less than 48 hours and one died a week later. When I took the last one back an older lady with glasses very rude try to rush me out the store didn't want to give any explanation try to act as if it was the water but the water came from them. I had a very bad experience; I wouldn't go there again & I would not recommend them. I was given different care instructions for the fish the first day I was given one type of instruction from an older male with a scruffy beard and when I returned the fish the first time I was given a different instruction by younger female sales clerk. When I returned the fish the first time another customer was also returning a dead fish. They have an ok variety of fish. It's not a very big store. It's better stores around. read more

Read that this was the place to go for fish.. So instead of travelling far to where we normally went we took a chance... Too big of a chance spent 50$ a few days ago on fish.. Right after we got the fish adjusted one died.. Called, because the other places I've gotten fish offer return exchange And water testing... They do not. So were out money and fish. Then the next day another fish died. And now another.. So no doubt the other fish n frog will die next and they won't do anything to help... Yet the original fish bought a our fish store still alive... And even the fish bought from Walmart are still alive... Mos later.. The best fish... Sells bad fish! read more

As a long time customer, I have never had a problem with a fish dying that they dont replace. If a fish outgrows my tank they will take it back in trade, I would like to see a bigger selection of plants though, and some feeder platies for sale which are hard to find. I live in Milwaukee read more

This a true hobbyist fish store, nothing like Petco or PetSmart who typically have no idea what the true hobbyist needs are. The owners are almost always in the store and very knowledgeable. Prices are more than fair, and the advise is priceless. I often drive 45 mins to visit because it is worth it. read more

Great place with great people! Very recommended if you are are thinking about, just getting started or have already established tank(s). They are a friendly and very informative staff. The prices are also very reasonable and have an already wide verity of saltwater and freshwater livestock selection, in addition to special requested orders they can do. This is by far the best LFS in the Milwaukee area (trust me I've been to all of them)! Oh and you can't forget the great promotions they have at times! They're something that you can't pass up! I recently moved about 2 hours away and will still make the trip to this specific LFS to support this local businesses. I had one of the worst customer services experiences ever trying to make a return at that store. I asked for an anti-fungal med they assured me that Maracyn would do the trick. Turns out that was an antibacterial med. When I asked if I could return this due to their error, it was explained they would only do an in store credit despite the product being returned in less than 2 weeks, unopened, with all receipts present. I then called again to complain and that I want my money back because its their fault I have to go back out there. During the second call, they were very rude, but agreed to a charge reversal on my card. Later, I walked into the store, asked for the charge reversal (which required the store manager to do so), and was told I could not do this and that no one said any such thing despite speaking to the store manager himself on the phone 2 days earlier. Then after going through the whole spiel again, the store manager explained that he would do the reversal on my card but that he "doesn't understand the difference between an antibacterial med and a antifungal med." After the reversal was complete he asked what I was treating my pets with instead. I told him Lifeguard. He then explained that I "was going to cause more secondary infections and that whoever told me to use Lifeguard didn't know what they were talking about" with my frogs. Needless to say, making a return became an overly complicated process, wherein I experienced extremely poor customer service, both over the phone and in store. The people working there were ill-informed about basic information pertaining to any organism yet still felt inclined to criticize my actions for seeking treatment/care from another source. A most unfortunate experience indeed. read more

Drove up today from Illinois to check out saltwater shops in Milwaukee. Place was pretty busy so just took my time checking out the huge number of saltwater fish, corals and invertebrates they have. Prices on some things seemed a bit high, well higher than what I'm used to in Chicago area. Was asked if I needed help by lady with glasses couple times. She seemed pretty friendly and willing to help me! Once the crowd thinned out, I made up my mind about what I wanted and had a few questions about, I motioned for her that I could finally use her help, but she sent a younger girl over who I think was tired out after the original crowd because she wasn't particularly friendly as she got my selections out of the tank. She called over a man to answer the questions I had but he wasn't much friendlier. The fish and snails I bought seem healthy and happy in my tank and I'll probably go back, but next time, I'll be sure to grab the friendly lady right away if she offers to help me! :) read more

Look, I really wanted to like this locally owned fish store. It is a total Ma and Pa outfit, located in the first floor basically of a house near downtown Milwaukee. It has a great "vibe" hodge podge and just messy enough to show that it is owner operated. But here is the deal...the fish have been pretty poor. The first set I bought, one died in less than a week. Most fish stores would credit you or something, but even though I came in with a receipt, they would not credit me for a fish that died within days. So that is not that bad, but I have NEVER had ich before in any of my tanks, but lo and behold, I now have a massive breakout of ich in the tank where I placed the fish I bought from Best Fish. Inexcusable imho. It is not user error, I have NEVER had a case of ich in any fish I have EVER bought, period. Except for this first time buying at Best Fish. Serious bummer. Their prices are decent and the help is attentive and knowledgeable, though. read more
