I'll 2nd those that mention labor price gouging. Andrewtech has been my go to shop since IAG changed focus to becoming more of a parts manufacturer than shop, and I've always been inclined to spend a little extra to make sure that people working on my car know what they are doing and will shoot me straight. That aspect of this shop seems to have changed over the years as they are now greatly over estimating, and charging for labor costs. A simple wheel bearing replacement was quoted at just over $1200 with 4.3 hours of labor. This is not the average time for wheel bearing replacement, especially when replacing the hub which was quoted as well. With the proper equipment, I could train a new mechanic on how to do the job in under 4.3 hours.... I'll never be taking a car here again and will be looking for another location for tuning. read more

Diagnostic assessment cost me ~$350. no work done on the actual vehicle, just 3 hours worth of assessment. I have some problems with my 2011 Subaru outback (103,000 miles) that I needed looked at and assessed. The shop came highly recommended by someone who is mechanically inclined. The diagnosis partially sound to what is wrong but there is considerable double dipping on the labor quote (greater than 2x what should have been quoted). The mechanic hourly rate is almost 3x what is standard in the area for someone with over 10 years of experience. They quoted me $7K for labor and parts ($4.5k/$2.5k) and the parts were not standard for my vehicle. I sought a second opinion from another reputable mechanic and dropped the number down to less $2k. That is the difference between me investing in my current car and having to look at consider new cars. read more

I came here to get some work done for my 2015 WRX. Found this place because they specialize in Subaru's. You can tell once you drive there as Subaru's sti's and wrx' dominate. It was a sad day for me because I wanted to return my car back to stock. It was a lot of stuff like intercooler, jpipe removal, tgv/egr, and intake. The tech's did a great job and explained to me any issues after they were done. I knew I can trust them with Subaru's and they definitely knew their stuff. Prices were reasonable. The only thing I didn't like was you can't see your car being worked on. And it took them a lot longer than what they stated to me beforehand. But the waiting room did have netflix, wifi, and coffee. read more

Sheesh where to begin....I've brought my vehicle here several times and have left satisfied for the most part...THEN THIS HAPPENED... I got a written quote from the owner(S-A_M), made an appointment to get the work done, then upon completion he raised the price by $2000 without consulting/notifying me whatsoever, and expected me to just keep quiet and pay.... That's exactly what I DIDN'T DO. I went to go pick up my vehicle after trying to negotiate over the phone with the manager after playing phone tag for days trying to speak with the owner. Upon my arrival I found my vehicle to be in shambles. My Subaru was brand new had about 15k miles on it and mind you I had been bringing it here since I drove it off the lot at Fitzgerald. The car was filthy as if it was driven through a tornado, there where massive scratches all throughout my vehicle that I never put there I strictly hand wash and wax all my vehicles paying attention to the closest details, as soon as I sat in the car it had a tremendous odor to it, and upon attempting to start the vehicle and put it in gear it immediately started shaking like crazy. I turned the vehicle off and went back to speak with Sam..he offered to give me a discount and fix the scratches....but upon further inspection looking under the hood, they had replaced a ton of my car parts with aftermarket or parts that didn't even belong on the vehicle and replaced my fresh oil with old used dirt oil, under the hood everything looked old and used like it came from another car and indeed most of it did because I took pictures of the vehicle before it was in the shop. At this point I had been lied to several times by the owner (S-A_M) and I just wanted to get out of there with a minimum of my dignity in tact..also I wanted to mention my interactions with the manager (*R-I-Y-Y_A-D) was decent at first but upon becoming a loyal customer, I guess he became complacent when addressing me, but it's definitely noteworthy that this guy should not manage anything based off of his attitude and customer service interaction. I've seen may of my peers go to them for things from basic maintenance to aftermarket installs and tuning and they have all ended up with a blown engine???? Hmm i wonder why..these guys are using us like test dummies for their little experiments, and let me not even get started on TurboXS their partners in CRIME. They actually caused my vehicle to lift a head by installing my external wastegate improperly and that caused the vehicle over-boost to 32 PSI, all their products are recommended by Andrewtec surprisingly... hmmm sounds like a gang of cutthroats to me.. but that's just my opinion you choose where to take your car..but choose wisely my friends as it may be the last time you enjoy your precious Subi. read more

I recently did an STi turbo swap with supporting mods (ID 1000cc injectors, STi hood scoop & shroud, STi intercooler, plugs, and upgraded fuel pump) and had Andrewtech perform the installation. For my appointment, I also asked them to make arrangements for a tune with Jermaine Riddick of TurboXS after my swap was complete. Sam was more than willing to accommodate and spoke with TurboXS for a tune session and reserved a rental car at my request. I was recommended here by a friend and pastor and I was not disappointed. I felt my clutch slipping on my 2011 WRX and the brakes were squeaking and I didn't know whether or not I should change it now or later. I spoke to Sam and Kevin on the phone and they were extremely helpful and friendly. After a test drive, Sam knew within 2-3 minutes what was wrong with the car. We scheduled an appointment 2 days later (Thursday) and Kevin called me with any new update (upon my request). The total amount came out to a little more than I was quoted because of the extra issues they found but they were very upfront with all the prices and were working with me as much as possible to make sure I could get what was needed to fix the car at the budget I could afford. I was informed that it would take one day longer to fix the car because the part that was sent did not fit, but they were again very honest about that and upgraded the rubber tubing to a stainless steel tube (forgot what tube) on their own dime for the inconvenience. They could've easily just ordered the same non upgraded part but they went above and beyond to ensure that I was well taken care of. Do not take your car to them to have major engine work if you are on a budget. Their labor rate is $150 per hour and imo labor hours are exaggerated As compared to the national average. They said a day they would work on the car then they said their techs were tied up and they would have a apprentice pull the end. They went further into taking the engine apart than agreed and tried to charge for it. I would definitely take my car somewhere else. read more

Awesome shop. Very highly regarded in the Subie community, which says a lot. The clutch on my WRX recently bit it thanks to 6.5 years of daily stop n' go torture on the roads of Northern Virginia, multiple trips up into the Rockies and two cross-country caravans to Colorado. She held out as long as she could bless her heart, but it just wasn't meant to be any longer. So I begrudgingly began making calls to some respected shops in the area to figure what the damage would be.. I actually called Mach V in Sterling first, but their estimate came in at around $450 higher than Andrewtech as they insisted a new flywheel would be needed. I trust Mach V as well, since I had a great experience with them a few years back when they did springs and some other work on my car. They also needed the entire cost of the clutch up front, before the work was done. When I called Andrewtech, they were open and honest and assured me that 9 out of 10 times the flywheel could be 'resurfaced' instead of being outright replaced when doing a clutch install. This little tidbit ended up saving me hundreds of dollars and I got out the door with a new clutch and custom all wheel drive alignment for still over than $300 less than it would've cost for the clutch alone at another shop. Additionally- their customer service went above and beyond. They were able to talk me off a ledge a few times about my driving habits (since you begin to ask the "was it the way I drive?" question when something like a clutch goes), and when I told them I would be getting a rental car they offered to work after hours to get the car done sooner. Seriously! That kind of service just does NOT exist in this area. They ended up getting me in the DAY after I called and had the car done the day after that. Unbelievable. I cannot recommend them highly enough- and as an added bonus, we got to take White's Ferry on our way there and back, which was whimsical and awesome. Oh and at night it totally added to the creepy ambiance that is riding on a boat in the dark in late October. I will absolutely be a repeat customer should any other "big ticket" items on my WRX arise (God I hope not). read more

First off ATA is one of America's top Subaru shops and their craftsmanship and reputation speaks for itself. I brought my vehicle to Andrewtech for a motor build, transmission rebuild and dyno tune. Riyaad is always pleasant to work with and makes sure that you get everything you need and communicates with you throughout the process. Their work was phenomenal and I have been very happy with the end result. If I ever encountered any issues and/or had a question, they were readily available to assist. Riyaad even responded to an email on a Saturday evening after my car was out of their shop and in my possession. To me they are focused on putting the customers first and that is rare to see in this day and age. Great shop for pretty much anything automotive. This is one of the few places in the area whose recommendations I really trust without going for a second opinion, which is one of the highest praises I can give. They've done a great job with maintenance work on my daily driver, fixing issues bungled by other shops on my track car, installing safety gear, and everything in between. Subarus are their specialty (which is pretty obvious as soon as you see the parking lot in the front) but they've always done great work on my Miata. If they don't know how to do something off the top of their head they're honest about it but will research it until they're confident they'll do it right. Labor rates are reasonable, and I've never walked away feeling I was overcharged. Considering the care they've put into every job they've done for me I usually feel like I'm getting off cheap. I was referred to this shop from numerous people, and drove 1.5hours from VA to visit AndrewTech. I brought over a 2008 Legacy GT for a pre-purchase inspection in February. Sam fitted me into his schedule early in the morning and Andrew & his team began their in depth analysis on the vehicle. They pointed out several big concerns on the car, as well as potential history of the car with the looks of the vehicle. Andrew then took it for a long test drive to see how the gears & engine felt. After the inspection, they worked up a cost and explained everything in detail. I ended up getting the car, and getting all issues fixed at AndrewTech. One of the big services for the Legacy is the timing belt & water-pump. Since I was not sure if this service was done, I asked them to just go ahead and replace all. As they worked through the belts & pump, Sam noticed the pump was new, called me and subtracted it from the services. This is honesty at its best. Throughout the entire process, Sam & Andrew did not attempt to upsell me on random services. In fact, I learned much more about my vehicle with every visit. Prices are more than reasonable, and cheaper than some of the other shops out there. This team is truly passionate about what they do, and it shows through the way they speak, work and their interactions. I will have recommended everyone to head this way for all their needs. Although I only owned a WRX for a year, I was so glad I found these guys. They do great work, are honest about what needs to be done and when, and the prices are extremely fair. I would drive from downtown DC all the way out there, and it was totally worth it. If I were ever to own another Subaru, I wouldn't take my car anywhere else. And I have told every Subaru owner I know the same. One experience that sticks out was when I took my car in for a rubbing/squeaking noise while turning at low speeds. I had asked the dealer to take a look when I was getting the Takata recall done, and they couldn't even hear it. Then they just said "It's a 10 year old car, it will make noise." Not an acceptable answer. I took it to Andrewtech, and the guys replaced a worn tranny mount. It didn't fix the noise, but it was due to be replaced anyways. Once I told them that the noise was still there, we took a ride together. They got it right up on the lift and showed me exactly what was wrong (the cross member was in bad shape.) They replaced it with a used part they had lying around, and I was on quickly on my way. read more

I brought my Subaru here because they had great reviews. When I brought my car the first time they were really nice and cost was reasonable. I was happy about not having to go back to Fitzgerald even though this place is out of my way. I decided to take my car for a tune up and price was good. They said I needed extra work so cost went up to almost $1000. I was like ok they would know best. Car was making a wierd noise when car was started at first. Mind you the car did not make this noise before I took it to them. I let it pass thinking it was the cold weather. It did not go away. I took it back and they are charging me over $300 to take the heat shield off. They said I don't really need it and that is what is causing the noise. The car runs great now. I had my fair share of nightmares with another shop who has terrible customer service, so I decided to give Andrewtech a shot and all I can say is that they are awesome and care about their customers. My car was leaking oil and needed the valve cover replaced, Andrew had the area cleaned and took it for a test drive to make sure the leak was truly coming from the valve cover before replacing anything. I was happy that he wanted to make sure it wasn't something else and didn't replace anything unnecessary. The work was done quick but thoroughly and I couldn't be happier. More recently, I was told from the other shop that my head gasket had some seepage after they had apparently fixed an issue that they made before (only went back to the other shop since they were covering the labor, etc)...didn't sound right to me so I had Andrewtech look at the car and the head gasket is fine, but the manifold had to be taken off to pin point where the seepage was coming from. At this point I decided to make an appointment to have them take the manifold off, replace whatever had the seepage, and do my 90K service, timing belt, etc. Everything was done in a timely manner and Sam was keeping me posted on what needed to be replaced and quickly responded to any questions I had. Turned out that the turbo inlet was no good and the throttle body o-ring was bad. They replaced everything and my car seems and feels great. This shop is awesome and I honestly won't be going anywhere else. The staff is great and knowledgable, they go above and beyond to assist their customers. I highly recommend them! ANDREWTECH IS ABSOLUTELY THE WORST COMPANY I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH. They charged me over $17k to build and install a motor in my STI back in November and NINE MONTHS LATER they still can't get it tuned. Despite months in their shop, the car barely runs at all, sputters, shuts off, the check engine light comes on, and now smoke is pouring out from under the hood. When I had it in for repair, they broke literally dozens of promises about when they would get it back to me. They returned a car that had half a tank when dropped off with no gas, so I was stranded after driving a block and a half! An employee was caught taking an unauthorized joy ride of over 150 miles and even though I didn't call the cops after it was confirmed on videotape, I still received horrible service. After almost a year of trying to deal nicely, I am fed up. Anyone who questions anything I am saying is welcome to contact me and I will send you the e-mail messages from Andrewtech. I would avoid this shop at all costs. They destroyed a beautiful car, wasted months of my time and charged me almost $20k! Truly horrible. read more
