They really put the customer first, which is a necessary business model in the age of big box stores and e-commerce - but not all small businesses succeed as well as MOB does. Our most recent experience motivated me to write this review after years and years of being a customer. My wife and I had two bikes we wanted to donate to World Relief for Afghan refugees they are relocated to the Triad. We wanted to get them fixed up before donating them, so (of course waiting until the last minute) brought them to MOB on Saturday for a Monday donation date. Told Charles what we were doing and he said they were about a week out on repairs but that he could throw them up on the stand and if they didn't need much work his guy could do them while we waited. About 30 minutes later, we had two functional bikes to donate to some needy families. Not only that, but one of the bikes we had bought at MOB so the tune-uptune-up was free. For the other he halved the standard tune up price. What a wonderful business to have as part of our community.

She LOVES her new bike & has been riding what feels like nonstop. They're more on the "pricey" side, however you get actual service for your bike- they check it, air the tires, have a service for it in about a year... things you just don't get elsewhere (like a big box store) that absolutely make it worth the value! I stumbled upon this shop just after arriving in Galax on the New River Trail. Hungry, new to…read moretown, and in the market for a backup tire tube, I found New River Trail Outfitters before finding the restaurant I was looking for. Not realizing that it had only been open a week or two, I moseyed on in. It turns out, they didn't have the right tube for my bike - they do have some gear, and a bike repair shop, to complement their rental bikes, but are still in the process of stocking parts for repairing pretty much any bike that might be brought in. My bike isn't very similar to their rental bikes, so I wasn't able to buy one here. But what really stood out is that even though they weren't able to provide a sale, the husband-wife team running the place were generous with local knowledge, outwardly friendly, and didn't try to push other products on me. They not only were able to direct me to the restaurant I hadn't yet found, but gave me some fantastic recommendations on what to order. And as we talked about how I wound up in Galax, it became clear that they're not just enthusiastic about bicycling, but people-people as well. This stands out because about the best I ever expect with a bike shop is service-friendly, and it's not rare to find a dismissive tone (of the "I know more than you" type) at bike shops. Here, it didn't matter what bike I was riding or that I was probably only going to spend about $10 even if they'd had what I was looking for in stock. If they were local, and they did a good job fixing things in service, this is where I'd take my bike. They have that straight-shooter car mechanic vibe, where they'll tell you if you need something but not try to oversell you - *and* they're people I'd like to hang out with outside of a business context. It is a little bit off the trail, and you have to use caution when crossing US-58. It's worth visiting Galax regardless, though, and if you need something from a shop or want to rent instead of bringing your own bike, I'd stop here.
