I've always found it difficult to find suits off-the-rack, so I tend to just go bespoke. Growing up, my grandmother was a seamstress and my mom worked in a tuxedo shop for most of my childhood--I had a custom tux with tails by the time I was 4. So I'm pretty familiar with the process. I have had suits made all over the world, from the Midwest to Hong Kong. It is a dying artform. I figured that when I moved to a big city full of professionals like Boston, I wouldn't have such a tough time finding a made-to-measure place. Turns out, I was wrong. Boston is completely devoid of tailors who will make women's pantsuits. Why? I couldn't tell you. So, I frankly chose Alan because I had no other option. Was it a good decision? Yes. Alan is charming and professional. His shop has a choice location. He's very thorough. I love his dog, who is the sweetest most well-behaved animal I've seen (those with allergies be forewarned--the dog comes with the office, so medicate as necessary). His assistant is also a sweetheart. The suit took awhile to finish. Maybe 4 months altogether. But I wasn't in a rush. It fits well and I wear it on a regular basis. It came in my absolute fav garment bag. The biggest caveat is price. Suits start between $2-3k. So, while I love Alan, I'm not baller enough to fill my closet with him. If you do have that kind of cash flow, I can't recommend him highly enough.

I have been buying things left & right-too small/too big for the past 2yrs, knowing the amazing craftsmanship the team here at Sonia's tailoring shop upholds. It's a sweet mom & pop's shop. So I feel extra special knowing I am bringing in clothing into this lovely family owned business. I have so many ideas on modifying my garments. And speaking with the team such as with Carlos and revisioning a different way to wear clothing, makes me feel connected. They always seem as excited to work on my projects as I am to fitting them in a 1-3 week window! Please! Buy that top you thought you couldn't fit, buy those pants that drops too long. Never regret walking pass a nice piece, they will guide you thru their services on making it suit your needs with an add of flare. Here were some very happy moments when I bought something I knew they could help me get into. I have been coming back every other week because I love fashion! And I love the staff so much for helping me realize something I haven't thought of for so many years. At first they told me the alterations were $300, and once I got the invoice they said it was $400. Being ripped off here is worse than the economic crisis rn. I'm slowly being convinced they're running some sort of a poorly executed Ponzi scheme. When I went to pick up my dress, it barely fit, and had strings hanging off everywhere. There was nothing we could do because my sisters wedding was the next day. Like where do you get off? When I was speaking to one of the intolerabley looking emoloyees there, they couldn't even look me in the eyes to apologize for THEIR problem. My body type can be hard for tailors to work with but he's done a great job on 10+ pieces for me so far. He was even happy to go back and make additional alterations to a garment that I wasn't 100% satisfied with. My husband and I looked through book upon book upon book of fabric swatches. We went with linen which was in our budget, then selected the several little details that go into crafting a custom suit. We had so much fun choosing buttons, placement, stitching, liner, etc. It's not bespoke, but certainly the next best thing to it. Did we spend a ridiculous amount of money? Yes, but it's a well crafted suit that is perfectly tailored to my husband's body that he can wear for years to come.
