We have experienced many home moves including 6 moves across the country, and everything from complete white glove service of packing, loading, moving and then the same at other end; to self-packing and using ABF containers. What we learned is that your move is only as successful as the team that handles your possessions. This move we packed and BH Moving performed all the losing, unloading and moving from CT to ME right before Christmas. From Judy D. driving an hour and a half to meet at our home and provide us an accurate proposal, to changing the move dates due to weather, to the amazing crews that handled our possessions, all were absolutely FANTASTIC. On time, on budget, hardworking, respectful, careful and organized! Team lead Melissa (14 years with the company) was an incredible workhorse and was a great role model for hardworking Jake, Sean and Sean. Unusual in today's customer service world, they were all cheerful, polite and NEVER did we see them standing around checking their phones!!! Idona wrote email saying Ken wants to speak on the phone, as there's too much to put in writing. We said it has to be in writing. He didn't email. Who forgets selling 80+ lbs of dishes and lladros? Ask everyone who works there who took them. We just want them back. Didn't release video of the unload or give insurance information or reimburse the $100 given to their mover to bring the broken bed back. Will have to post online for folks who worked there then to email us for info. Will offer reward. Working hard to avoid court and a police report. Deeply upsetting. Don't have the customer on file? I try to use local and instead of using a POD, I used local Bert Hill. The first container left 2 wheel indentions as they did not put any protection down. Still, I ordered another with the stipulation that I want protection down this time. The big hole is from their "protection"!!! They refused to fix it because the contract says They are not responsible for damage" well, they are, but if I signed my rights away, so be it. But where is goodwill these days? We used Bert Hill 21 years ago to move into our house in Southwick. They were fast and professional. When we sold our house and moved to NH I called Bert Hill to do our move. They sent Kyle over to do the estimate about a month and a half before our move and then a week before to fine tune the quote, since we had already moved or sold some of our furniture. The guys showed up promptly at 9am and were on their way to NH by 3pm. They never even stopped for lunch. They met us in NH at 9 am the next day and were done by 1pm. The guys were very friendly and accommodating. The final invoice was 20% LESS than the estimate because we did a majority of the packing and were ready for our move. I don't understand people who give bad reviews because of their own actions or lack thereof. Do they really think the movers are going to pack your stuff for free? They tell you from the beginning to buy your own boxes and pack your stuff to save money. When you hire someone to do a job, your actions have a direct result on your cost. Shame on people for taking their own deficiencies and blaming it on a business. read more

They were 2 hours late. The job was scheduled between 10:30 and 11:00 AM , and I met the truck back at my place at 12:30 with lunch for 3 workers after offering to provide lunch because they said they were hungry. I had to reschedule my day around them being late. One employee was complaining how he had to bring stuff to the basement and said, "you're killing me smalls". They lost some hardware for my work desks and left black handprints on the bottom of my mattress. Ten minutes after looking at the bill and trying to make sense of it, the same employee wrote up the invoice and ripped it out of my hands pointing at my signature as we were going over it...as if any number they write down you suppose to "just pay it". He then escalated the situation and called the cops because that is what the owner tells him to and said "you don't know who your f*cking with." This was all before I was able to call their office. I was not able to get a word in to this employee. I then called their office and talked to the owner Ken. Ken said that it was not a doctor appointment he was late for. The other excuse he used is the fact my father stopped in the office to inquire about pricing beforehand, and the bill was "better than he was thinking". Really, it was better than the receptionist had imagined because it was only a small apartment. Pressuring and fear mongering clients to payment by threatening police presence. Of course, when I did walk out to pay, the employee insulted me and would not reach out his hand to take the money. I was overcharged $150 for labor and $200 for 3 cardboard boxes. The experience I had with this company was unacceptable and completely unprofessional. read more

Bert Hill Movers did a fantastic job on our house move from Western Mass to the Boston area during the huge snowstorm on December 2-3. In spite of the snow, they handled our furniture and belongings with the best of care. Every piece of furniture was wrapped safely and they took care not to get anything wet with the snowfall. They delivered our furniture the next day while it was still snowing. Once again they took care to bring everything in our new home safely and assemble anything that needed to be put back together. At first I thought everything was going to be fine. We had moved a lot of stuff and, also, had most stuff packed. It is a small 2 bedroom. After 3 hours (they said 4) the kid said that they were done? Uhm, there was still quite a bit to move. They ended up leaving with one apt not empty and the other one a mess. We had a large, very heavy (630 lbs), boxed piano that had to be moved up two stories to a top floor studio. We were fortunate to have found Bert Hill Mover. 1) The crew arrived exactly on time. 2) They did a masterful job of moving, then un-boxing and assembling, and finally setting up the piano. This included navigating a steep, narrow staircase without any problems. 3) The guys (Paul with crew of Tony, Andy and Kyle), were easy to work with and work very well as a team. 4) The price for the job was reasonable. Movers were to take a half hour lunch, i moved less than 10 min away and they took an hour and a half for lunch. I got compensated for 15 min. Scratch on my dresser. Banged a door where a piece of the door is missing and he doesn't know what to say about it. Dent in tool chest and says it's from the weight of the tools. Seriously? Damaged a piece of an antique stove. This piece alone costs $200. Took clips for shelving out of cabinet when there was no need and don't know what they did with them so had to buy new clips. Ken was to come back and take care of the damages but instead he sends a check in the mail for $100 when this doesn't compensate for the damage that was done. Hired the "piano specialist" to move a piano. Unfortunately they sent 3 people with no knowledge or equipment to move said piano. Also charged us anyway. Very disappointed in our recent move with Bert Hill. Here is a copy of the email I sent to the company following our move: "I hired your company too move my 91 year old Mom from Holyoke to Chicopee on Dec 5-6 2018. First I would like to say that Anthony and James were very personable, polite, and helpful, and we tipped them well for it. However, went we went back after the move a week later,, I was shocked to see what was left behind. We were there on both days and instructed them to pack everything except certain pieces of large furniture which we pointed out as we went, and items on the walls. We went to lunch and did not watch every move they made, assuming the entire kitchen would be packed. We did not think to look in every drawer after they were done. Since your company are professional movers, we assumed it would be done in a professional manner. No mention of any kind of walk through was proposed; they did ask if there was anything else and we said no, assuming all was packed. But here is an example, we had specifically asked for the towels and the linen closet to be boxed and moved. When they arrived at the new house, we asked where they were and they said they "forgot." There was also a vacuum cleaner left in the 2nd bedroom, a telephone, and numerous other items that did not fall into the category of furniture or wall decor we said to leave. Upon return to the house the following week, I had to transport two loads of things in my mother's car to the new place. I called your office on Dec 12, and was told by the receptionist that there was nothing to be done about it, and some such other excuse. She told me she would pass the message along to Ken and he would call me back. I have not as yet received a return call." I did receive a response to the above email today stating that there was "nothing that could be done about it" Perhaps we should have been more vigilant about checking every drawer, however I had just traveled quite a long way to assist my mother with the move, and she was pretty stressed out about it, so I had my hands full. Why would you have to check behind an open door and in a linen closet to make sure all items had been moved? Very disappointed in the unwillingness of the company to make things right, as well a dismissive attitude. Yes, they did offer to go back and move the rest of the things, but we had to vacate the property the day we discovered the items left behind. The worst movers I've ever experienced. Multiple pieces of furniture have gashes in them, including a very sentimental hope chest. They ripped apart a desk to move it and the screws are now missing (actually ripped apart. There is a huge piece of particle board torn off the bottom) They took off multiple pieces of hardware from dressers and now that is nowhere to be found. We paid $700 for the movers and now it's costing us more since we need to replace so much of the furniture. I would NEVER use or recommend them to anyone. Stay away! read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They ripped me off and their 3 movers took 9.5 hours to partially pack and move a 2 bedroom apt that was already 1/2 moved. I have moved across country twice, lived in 9 states coast to coast, used every brand name moving company, and I have never witnessed the blatant FLEECING that was done to me yesterday. I'm appalled and disgusted. I had used this company before and trusted them. I called TWICE during the move to voice my concerns about the poor quality and length of time. I was told "use your credit card and then tmrw we'll negotiate a fair price." Great. Tmrw came and my credit card got charged the full (fraudulent) amount of almost $2,000. I called and was told "you were charged the right amount, we stand by it." My last move with them was less than half that. Same stuff. Less distance. Only difference this time is some packing that was TERRIBLE AND WASTEFUL. I'm disputing the charges with my credit card company. First time in 25 years with American Express that I have ever disputed any charge. I'm livid. read more

Bert Hill Moving & Storage recently moved my mother into an assisted living facility. They were excellent. She used them last year to move into an apartment but she had to move again. They recognized her and were extremely pleasant and professional. Very friendly and did a great job with some special requests also. I highly recommend them. read more

We hired Bert Hill to move out our furniture and household items from our 3 bedrooms and our living room into their container/POD in our driveway and then back into our home 1 month later. (we were having our floors done). We scheduled this move over 6mths in advance. The movers were pleasant and courteous. But they were over 1 hour late the day of the move out and 3 hours early the day we were to move back in (I was not ready for them and we were being charged by the hour). We had one piece damaged in the move (an incident report was filled out by the mover at our house). The management (after I called them the following week) said that the chair just needed to "settle" and if we sat in it for 2-3 weeks it would be "fixed". We took the piece to our local Lazy Boy studio and had it repaired for $60 and now it is solid again. The management was cold and took no responsibility for damage done during the move. read more

I found they were fair in their estimate (we obtained three prices - one company much higher ((my past moving company)) and the other was much lower - so much so that it could not have been correct); so we decided to use Bert Hill for the first time. On moving day, they came in under their estimate! Dave, Michelle, Jay, Jeff, Jake and one other person showed up on time and got right to work. They all worked hard and moved quickly throughout the day. The were careful of our belongings. They were courteous, professional and made my move seem effortless (until it was time for me to unpack, of course). When we got to our new home, they inquired about the placement of our furniture and wanted to make sure I was happy with how the furnishings worked in our rooms. Called to schedule a free estimate. They didn't have any openings for over two weeks! But they had come recommended by our realtor so I delayed finalizing moving details until I got an estimate from Bert Hill. I even called back, left a message, requesting them to call me if any earlier times became available. Morning of my estimate, with Paul, no one showed. Called the office, I wasn't "in their system". I was offered a reschedule in another week! I inquired about any possibility of being accommodated, squeezed in, first appointment next business day, etc. The woman answering seemed to have zero interest in getting my business. She only offered to give my number to Paul and he'd call me when he could, but it wouldn't be today because he "left his cell phone at his girlfriend's in Maryland"! How unprofessional! I used them for my move from Southwick to Florida and it was the worst experience I have ever had. I moved numerous times and this was the by far the most unprofessional movers I have ever used. They came on a Saturday without the proper boxes and packing supplies because the estimator under counted and the office was closed on Saturday. They said that it would be properly repackaged for the semi truck for the trip to Florida. I trusted them to shrink wrap my bedding and put it in the proper package. It was wrapped in a dirty blanket Nd that's how it arrived with a few broken items. When I complained, response I got was "get it cleaned and send us the bill. I was more concerned about what little critters were in the mattress then dirt, I left it out in the sun and disinfect it. What bothered me was they didn't honor their word about wrapping it before transport on the semitrailer. Stereo receiver was damaged and again get it fixed and send us the bill, try to find a stere repairman, like trying to find typewriter repair. I finally gave up trying to get them to honor their word......they also lost a few items but proceeded to charge me full price for a professional move that I did not receive!,, read more
