Stopped into Bernini for Memorial Day lunch with a friend. Nice open atmosphere that is not too noisy. I think the building used to be a bank. We were seated fast since there didn't seem to be much business although the outside tables were occupied we sat inside. The waiter was friendly and the lunch menu is diverse. I saw lots of folks having pizza. I ordered the veal lasagna. My friend had the mussels appetizer. The lasagna was probably frozen since the pasta was crunchy but the veal was good. My friend enjoyed the mussels. The surprise came with the bill. I was charged for a $35 for a slice of lasagna and the mussels were $25. The prices online show $11 for each. My waiter said the lasagna cost was a mistake. Should be $18. The mussels were still $25. All I got was one slice of lasagna nothing extra except some very hard bread. I'm fairly certain people don't read their bills so they just pay without questioning. There are many other food options in Ybor. Try one where the prices are accurate and you get a little something besides a slice of lasagna for $35. read more

Bernini has a popular happy hour which features $3 Martini's and half off pastas and entrees. We ordered a coconut martini, red wine, sausage and peppers appetizer, gnocchi and chicken piccata. The drinks were good but I would not recommend the food. The sausage and peppers appetizer was average quality. It was a poor choice on our part since it wasn't part of the happy hour specials, so it ended up costing as much as an entree. The sauce on it tasted canned, and it simply wasn't worth the price. We came here after we visited the cupcake festival for a quick pick me up martinis. We got the bruchetta, which had diced tomatoes, garlic, basil and fresh mozzarella to munch on while we sipped on our martinis. I got the grapefruit martini and it was so good and for 3 dollars it was a great deal. My friend got a coconut flavored martini and since I despise the taste of coconuts, I declined a sip but they said it was absolutely amazing and was glad with their choice. I think the drinks were amazing. However, the bruchetta was okay. I felt like it could have a some more flavor to it, it was blah in my opinion. The bartender was great and was friendly and made sure we got our drinks and was very helpful with helping us decide on drinks that we would like. We have frequented this establishment over the years and, I must say, the value has dropped considerably. First off, the prices have more than doubled, there is no value in the meal, of any kind. Bruschetta appetizer consisted of two slices of baguette, covered in lettuce and tomato and heavily drizzled in Balsamic reduction. At first, I thought it was someone's leftovers, no cheese anywhere, I had to eat it with a fork. The main pasta dishes were average at best, and the meatballs were still cold inside. We went for happy hour and let me tell you it is well worth it. From 4:30 till 7:00 they have $3.00 Martinis and they use Finland vodka, they have wide verity of flavors. I would love to give this place more stars but holy heck, you have to yell across the table and to the person next to you to hear. I made a reservation for a work group on a Thursday night, no issues getting in or making the reservation. I do recommend making them tho, it was busy. Waitress was fine, she seemed overwhelmed but took care of our table fine, refilled drinks. We put an order in for an appetizer and it came out with our entrees, which is unfortunate because then we didn't get to eat much of it. I ordered the pork shank with risotto, wasn't anything super special, meat fell off the bone and the risotto was more like rice. Everyone else enjoyed their food, but because of the loudness we all felt tense and stressed and wanted to hi tail it out of there. Being safety people, some of us have a noose dosimeter app on our phone which is approved by NIOSH, the average noise level was 87 decibels; to put in context, OSHA governs construction activity to have a hearing conservation program at 85 decibels. Soooooo....basically when it's busy in there you are losing some of your hearing depending on how long you stay and if you work there you will have work related hearing loss.... you will probably have short term hearing loss when you leave. I doubt I would go back, I think there's more options out there. read more

Our hotel recommended this place for my sons birthday. The bartender was rude - we are a family of 5 and went to the bar while waiting to be seated. Bartender immediately said "so you are going to fill up my entire bar and order only soda?" My husband and I were planning to order cocktails and we also usually leave a big tip. I absolutely love this place. They have good food, nice portions and great pricing. Who can beat a $2-$3 martini and half off appetizers?!? I hadn't been to this restaurant in years but it used to be one of my favorites. What I found on this Sunday at 2:00 pm when the place was virtually dead, was that nobody cared to clean the floors (which were filthy) or clean the ladies room, which was disgusting, smelly and out of soap/running out of toilet tissue. We arrived for our 5 o'clock reservation and we are told that we have to leave in 90 minutes, as they would need our table for a large group. we were not told of this restriction when we made the reservation. it was extremely rude. The service was very efficient and we were finishing the bill and our cocktails around 6:25 when the hostess comes upstairs with the party of 24 and loudly says to our service that she told us we'd need to leave by 6:30. We just had dinner at Bernini for the first time. We were intrigued by their 50% off deal on entrees from 4 to 6. Also, it looked like a neat old building in Ybor. We live about 15-20 minutes from there. It was good we had a reservation because even on a Wednesday in our low tourist season, the place was packed. The food was very good and the service was excellent. HOWEVER this restaurant is by far the NOISIEST place we have ever spent $80 in. Seriously, I obviously don't know the actual decibel level in there, but suffice it to say we had to shout for our server to take our orders when he was standing right next to us. Also, as it has an open kitchen we heard a lot of crashing and banging of plates and glassware. I noticed the people at the tables around us were packing up a lot of food and leaving. I don't know why, but I'm guessing it just wasn't a conducive atmosphere for visiting with their friends. Like I said the food was very good and the prices at 50% off are very reasonable. I've been coming to Bernini's for years. More commonly to take advantage of their $3 martini happy hour specials. They're located in the heart of Ybor city in the middle of all the action next door to the big easy on 7th Avenue. I believe the owner of this restaurant also owns the Carne Chop House restaurant down the street (also good). This is an Italian style restaurant which features many styles of gourmet Italian cuisine. The quality of the food and drink is excellent. The interior decoration and architecture are beautiful. I've spent many times here and have enjoyed each moment. As mentioned earlier, they feature a very good happy hour deals would you go be on the $3 Martini specials which also include a food menu. The general observe the dress code here is a little dressy (dressy casual-ish or better). The price point are reasonable to higher depending on what you get.
