Spain is a FOOD MECCA! However, this girl can't eat spanish tapas for a week straight. I needed to space out all my paellas and octopuses with some burgers and ramen in between - so hello Bernie's. Bernie's is one of the better options located near the Gothic Quarter in Barcelona. But it really is only one of the better ones because a lot of other "American" establishments are bad. You really make due with what you have. Their milkshakes are good. Nice and creamy but not too heavy. I had the chocolate milkshake and was a fan. My GF had their strawberry cheesecake milkshake and it was good, but tasted more like just strawberry than strawberry cheesecake. T-bone steak tasted similar to a decent american diner and it hit the spot. Their ribs are absolutely horrible though. They were overcooked, dry, bland, and slathered in a bad BBQ sauce. Do come if you miss home, but don't come expecting an amazing meal. read more

I ordered a Classic burger (cooked medium), fries, patatas bravas, a banana milkshake, a vanilla milkshake, and a banana split ice cream. All take out. - The burger was raw. We couldn't eat it. - The fries were as bland as fries can be. No seasoning, and like rubber. - The patatas bravas were literally just plain steak fries. Also no seasoning but most importantly no bravas sauce or aioli. - The banana milkshake was mostly milk. Vanilla wasn't bad. - Banana split was pretty good, but it's hard to mess up scoops of ice cream and toppings. The woman who took my order wasn't rude by any means, but she was cold and almost seemed bothered to be dealing with an American even though I spoke mostly in Spanish. If you're really desperate for American food in Barcelona, I guess you can find worse, but if you have time, I'd go elsewhere. For what it's worth, the atmosphere was cool. Good music and aesthetic. Definitely the best Burgers and American hometown food in all of Europe, we have traveled for the the last three weeks in Europe and love the food culture here, but there is nothing like a Fabulous Burger to satisfy your hunger and deep craving of home, I personally had the Lamb burger , tried the American Rodeo along with the French fries and onion rings, I will definitely come back here to Bernie's Diner on my next trip to Barcelona, I highly recommend it ! read more

From the US and wanted to try an american style burger from a different country. I can tell you to avoid this place as I've had tons of burgers from the US and they are so much better than this. I had a BBQ burger and it was not hot. The taste was average. The bacon on the burger was decent. Onion rings on it were bland. I also had fries with eggs and the fries were not that hot and the eggs were STIFF. They said it was supposed to be that way!!! Girlfriend didn't like her goat cheese salad as the goat cheese was a block of cheese. Friend had a hotdog and said it was good. Not hard to mess up a hotdog with nothing on it but bread... Service was average but then I was made fun of for saying queso wrong. Skip this place and get some more tapas. read more

It's my parents first time or of the US and we ended up at this little place. They got in wire late from their flight and just a little bit of home is exactly what they needed. It is right by the hotel we're staying at, so that made it super convenient. For 4 of us to eat, it was less than €40. The good was pretty good, just simple burgers and chicken sandwiches is all we had. The staff was super nice and welcoming. I'd go here again if there weren't do many other places to experience around here. read more

Seems silly to want to eat American style fare when in Europe, but we actually ended up eating here twice on our trip along with other Spanish restaurants (come on, we're not that uncultured). The food was great and the ambience did a great job of giving you that hokey diner feel. It's a very clean restaurant in a cool little part of the gothic district. The menu was your typical burgers and fries but they were very, very good. The wings were delicious, but very small. This would be a 3-star if the prices weren't so low. If you're really craving an American style breakfast, this will do, and the prices are all 4-7 euros for combo plates. The quality just isn't great. It's not bad food, but it's just not a great meal out. If you're looking for a cheap place to go with kids (because the fare is pretty "normal"), this is a good bet. Pretty solid diner when it comes to burgers, fries, and typical American fare. The inside is lined with Rt. 66 signs, James Dean photos, and Marilyn Monroe photos so you get the picture. My girlfriend and I came here after a week into our two month backpacking excursion (Barcelona was our third stop on our itinerary right around Thanksgiving). At this point we were both feeling a bit homesick due to the holiday and since we come from a place where there are more diners than there are U.S. states, we felt right at home at Bernie's. Great burgers - one of the best I can remember. Great caramelisation on the outside and cooked to order so pink and juicy. Sides were delicious and come in 2 sizes depending on your appetite. Prices are v.reasonable c.6-9 € and come with a great choice of fixings. Staff are extremely friendly and service is fast. All burgers are made on the day and from beef certified to be 'Eusko label' so guaranteed fed with natural forage. Which will be why they are so yummy then! read more

We were a little sceptical in the beginning because the restaurant was empty. But that was unnecessary. The food was plenty really delicious. Drinks good, as well. I like the atmosphere there because of the old music boxes on every table and the many pictures. I can recommend this one. read more

Great burgers. They understand temperature of cooking burgers, which we have found not the case elsewhere. If you order medium-well, you will actually get medium-well. English speaking, very friendly. In a good spot too if you want to walk to other areas. A lot of variety. Desserts looked yummy, but we were full. It took a while to come, but what I found on my mouth was what I was expecting: A good, moist patty (200g, 7 ounces), with an OK bun and a really good spicy sauce with the right amount of Jalapeños, that gives your mouth that extra joy. I saw it is a place that the families bring their kids to celebrate their birthdays (maybe the house invites to the cake?).
