This place is so funny. I will tell you 100% that it does not matter where you go in the world... there WILL be an Irish bar there. The Irish go everywhere and open up their pubs. This one is very authentic though. It's located a bit off from La Rambla and the staff are Irish. I'm glad we found it! Very fun, hole in the wall, no BS pub. Who serves beer? Scobies do! We had to stop in here and catch some Scobies. Scobie was one of the astronauts on the space shuttle Challenger, but I'm not sure it's the same Scobie. It really is the best pint of Guinness in Barcelona. I don't know where else you'd go for something like that, but they pour it true, where it takes a few minutes to properly pour it. They have the Guinness beer signs all over the exterior of the place. The bartender was the owner, who was real excited about having beer drinkers drinking beer. My favorite types of bartenders! When I went, it was sorta still a bit skiddish about having people inside, so we sat on the outside patio, which worked out just fine. It's the bottom floor of an otherwise ugly building, but they bring a bit of Dublin to the Catalonian capital. It looks legit. The beer was fairly priced, and they were open most times of the day I went by. Most times, they had football on the televisions. If you're sick of Estrella Damm, this is a good place for a change. read more

As an American. Haha. Stop reading there, right? But really. Listed as #1 Sports bar in Barcelona (limited area search). Nope. More than half of the 6 TVs not on. Popped in to watch USA v Morocco Olympic Football Match, no wonder the bartender wanted to pour the drinks first as he looked up the game. If you like Equestrian or Golf, this pub is a maybe. Dark, as all good pubs should be. But its short comings reflect bad on Irish. The bartender is nice though. What a fantastic pub. Upon the recommendation of a friend, I came here for the "best pint of Guinness you'll find in Barcelona." This is certainly the case. Ursula and her husband Garrett run a fantastic establishment. The proprietors are friendly and the crowd is a mix of locals, English speaking tourists, and expats. The music is generally tasteful classic rock and the purple lighting obtains a green hue from the Jameson bottle lined walls. Liquer selection is extensive as well. Conveniently located. Friendly. Off the Ramblas so you don't feel like youre in Disneyland. The bartender is always ready for a chat. They also speak Catalonia/Spanish well---so no problems there. Every pub review should be based on the hangover the next day. I entered this great pub on a Thursday night at 21:30 and was immediately welcomed by the owner Ursella from Listowel in Kerry. She poured me a pint of Guinness and it was a perfect pint. As the pints continued to be consumed the pub got busy and I interacted with several holiday makers and exchanged many stories, As an ex publican I have visited many an Irish bar but found this one just brilliant. I will defenity be back for more while on holidays in Barcelona. They are also showing important GAA matches like Mayo v Dublin on Sunday 30 August. Well worth a visit, I finished the night with Bombay Gin and Tonic at 02:30 and am now nursing an almighty hangover. A great night was had, well done to Ursella and the team at Scobies read more

We were looking for a nice place to watch American football. This place began as a joy but ended in the shorter male bartender telling us to "Get out, You're not in America, anymore!" The female older manager(maybe owner?) had expressed a lack of vocabulary when she used some vulgar/disgusting words also telling us to leave the establishment. Would not recommended Americans to visit this restaurant. read more

They went out of their way to stream a hockey game for us. Went througj an entire process just to find what channel was vroadcasting it and if they had it. Hockey is not typically a popular sport in Spain, and with soccer game taking place the same night, they werr able to accomodate us with a TV and provided great customer service. read more

On my first trip to Barcelona for business from the US I decided to forgo the traditional dinner scene and opt for a Irish pub. By happenstance Scobies was a short cab ride from my hotel. Upon arrival I quickly found myself in an authentic, friendly Irish pub with an amazing selection of whiskey - I'm not fond of beer. Hungry, I decided to order some food. The food was fantastic! American classic rock was playing, sports on the television, and several patrons with Irish accents enjoying the evening. To be fair I have not tried any other Irish pub in Barcelona but based on my first experience here I'm not inclined to experiment and will just come back here to relax and unwind after work. The pause that refreshes when you're tired of trying to speak Spanish and find your way around and need a place like home. Great little slice of Ireland, or Boston or New York for that matter. Young Irish couple decided to open a Pub in Spain. If I recall correctly, They cater to about 40% tourists like us, 20 % Irish X-pats and 40% Spanish people looking for the experience. Of course Guinness on tap but also Amstel Lager, a favorite of mine and difficult to find. Hundreds of empty Jameson bottles ring the room giving the proper impression. Looked to be 8 or 9 different Irish Whiskeys available plus about anything else you might want. Oddly enough, no food. Sad because nothing says Barcelona like a nice Shepherds pie and a Guinness. Conversation with the owner, Ursula, with a lovely Brogue.I must say, showed why you might go there even without the beer. Her stories about living both in Ireland and in Spain had us captivated. Obviously the welcoming, outgoing attitude of her Publican ( The original Scoby ) father has worn off. What originally hooked me was the playlist of Clancy Brothers songs from my college days and then American music from the same era but if you're too young for that some playlists were more current but, never fear, no electronic Eurotrash to be heard. There was no stage and, apparently no live music. Perhaps that would have been too much to ask for in Spain? read more

Best place ever! Talk about a pub that allows you to feel right at home. The staff is wonderful. We stayed in Barcelona for a week and let me tell you, we were at this bar pretty much every other day. Our first night day, the bartender opened up one of our maps and started marking down all sorts of cool places for us to visit. Bars, clubs, local beaches... After that, we began meeting some of the regulars, the owner, all of the bartenders. Let's just say that this place is amazing and if you are looking for a place to call home base, this would be it. If you are a local or a tourist, this place is great for both. Also, you may not notice it between the perfectly poured pints of Guiness, but the music in this place is top notch! Especially if the owner is working the bar. Give this place a try. You won't be sorry. read more

We had a great time at Scobies! The bartender Michael was friendly and chatty with us (Americans) and the locals (in Spanish). It was the kind of pub where no one was a stranger for long. We met someone from home (Texas), Israel, and another bartender who wasn't working from Ireland as well. It had a comfortable feel and the restrooms were very clean. Barcelona was one of my favorite places in Spain...most because of this bar! We came here after wandering aimlessly in Barcelona for hours. We needed a beer and a rest. What we got was an awesome pint, great conversation, and tons of local information. The bartender spoke perfect English and was from Ireland. My husband is Irish so they got along famously. We were pretty uninformed tourists, but we wanted to just experience Spain. Our bartender told us where to go, what to see, what to eat, and what not to miss. He was awesome. Honestly, we were there over a year ago and my husband and I still talk about the bartender at Scobies. We ended up coming back 3x during our 4 days in Barcelona. We normally visit Barcelona twice a year and we always make sure that we stop and take in the atmosphere of Scobies. This Irish Run and Irish staffed bar that is well stocked for beers, ciders and spirits. Right in the centre of Barcelona situated very close to the Universitat metro stop. It is always a welcoming environment and a good place to spend a few hours out of the heat of the sun. They ahve many large tv screens showing sport. If on holiday then you will be able to catch Scottish and English Premier League games, champions league games etc easily. The bar is also frequented by the locals which is a good sign. Good old friendly establishment. Visiting Barcelona and as we walked back to our hotel we spotted Scobies Irish pub. We didn't know that the rugby championship cup was going on. We got talking to the bar maid who turned out to be the owner and after talking she directed us to some great food spot and point of interest. We ended up at scobies every night after our site swing day. If we visit Barcelona we will make sure to make scobies our to go spot. read more

Stopped here whilst on a recent visit to Barcelona, Scobies is a really friendly bar and the staff are very friendly and helpful, however it was the most expensive bar that we drank in. It seems to be a theme that runs through all the Irish Bars. Try and drink where the locals drink. We all know whilst on holiday that your are going to spend your hard earned euro but this bar was way over the top with their prices. read more
