This is the first restaurant/bar we dined at in our visit to Barcelona. The paella was cooked very nicely and rice was a little on the uncooked side, if you like it that way. It came with giant shrimp and other creatures in the sea, that I can't remember. The overall flavor was very good! The staff was great, and very helpful. The service was pretty slow but the servers were nice once we got attention. The food was just mediocre bar food with not too much flavor. We only went here cause it was raining so hard and it was close to our hotel. The waitress at the end of the meal asked me to sign on to Trip Advisor and leave a positive review and she would give us a free shot. Little did she know I am a yelper and had no intention on leading others astray with her bribe. I can usually find more positive remarks for a review but this place left me kind of numb. Walking back to our hostel after our first meal in Barcelona, we came across this bar: music loud, drunk people lingering outside- must be fun! Didn't even realize the name of it until walking through the door: "Obama's". The statue of Mr. President at the entrance could've also been a clue. It's a little weird and uncomfortable. Drunk people ('mostly men in their 30 somethings) are singing and bobbing their heads to a man playing the guitar, (songs like "La Bamba", "Twist and Shout", and one I recognized as a guitar hero song) while walls of black and white photos of Africans in Africa look upon them. We each had a glass of wine in the crowded bar then slithered out and away from the drunk creeper who was trying to converse with us in his slurred speech. First off, I completely realize how this bar is politically incorrect and offensive to most Americans in so many ways (Obama named restaurent in an African colony under British rule themed restaurant). Then you realize the Spanish are oblivious to the political symbology. Anywho, aside from the point of amusement (the Obama statue of sorts that you can take a picture with), the food here is surprisingly decent for a pub. Yes, they will actually make Paella, Sangria, and etc. national Spanish dishes with the spices drenched inside and full compliment of local seafood add ins (speaking in particular to the Paella). The Brits next time found the British items (American/British fare is the main stay) as to their native homeland's liking. The service was hospitible and were very wiling to help me out since I was on a time crunch. I do admire that it was clean and organized! read more

We stumbled upon this place on accident while we were waiting for another reservation! Let's just say we didn't even bother going to the other restaurant because this place was great. The drinks were reasonably priced and the food was good for bar food! What more could we ask for ? Well they also had a live band that was jammin! Great spot. read more

Visited: Sunday - March 27, 2016 - 1:00 PM So, I'm here alone after meeting my fellow singles. They were able to secure their room for the night; I'm still waiting for my room. The staff assured me that my room would be ready once it was cleaned. I said I'd check back in an hour. So, I walk until I discover a sitting, smiling, plastic version of President Obama just inside the entrance of a gastropub titled "Obama's" So, I walk past the POTUS and address a live, breathing bartender and ask if I could seat myself. He said, by all means. So, I walk to the rear of a this nearly deserted gastropub and seat myself. So, I notice that there is one person serving several tables alone. I wait patiently until he serves all the diners. He glances toward me but, continues serving lunch and libations to diners. After what seems a ten minute wait, he approaches my table and asks in an English accent what I'd like. I request my standard drink, Dewars on the rocks. He asks if I'd like anything to eat. I replied that I never received a menu. He hands me a menu that is directly on the table behind me. I asked him if there is WiFi. He said yes, then stated that the username was coincidently, OBAMA and the password was FREE. So, I'm finishing my drink and ask the server for the check - 8 Euros. I place 10 Euros in the cup provided by the server and confessed that I didn't fully understand the tipping customs in Barcelona. He checked the cup an declared that he owed me two Euros. I said keep it. He said the 25% tip was quit generous and that the average residence NEVER tips. So, about the drink....it's Dewars on the rocks....what can go wrong? We were walking by trying to decide where to go and were lured in by a guy promising a free shooter (yep, we're weak). This place has the strangest decor I've ever seen. A throwback to the British Empire in India with a life-size figure of US President Obama thrown in for diversity. (??) For a British-style pub their selection of beers on tap was bland. I know we're spoiled in Vancouver though so my standards are high. The place filled up with the most obnoxious, loud tourist off their cruise ship and we needed to get the heck out of Dodge! Of course our free shooter hadn't arrived nor did it look like it would. As we left I commented to the promiser of said shooter so he dragged us back in for some horrific concoction. Eclectic as all bejeezus, but the waitstaff were perfection, the food was better than expected, the beer selection was adequate and we had a great time! The place made me laugh with its outrageous but well curated decor. It grows on you! Have a beer here while you wait on Ciudad next door. You might come back for more. read more

we arrived in Barcelona well after midnight, my limited spanish failing me, my rumbling gut refusing to push my feet any further, and a passerby's vague rememberance of a sandwich shop 8 blocks away was not inspiring confidence. then some drunk chick on the street urged us to come inside the chandelier-swinging harem of Obama. Inside I saw a man curled up in the lap of a presidential mannequin, a cover band blasting through American punk and rock singles in Spanish, and a bunch of colonialistic photographs, camouflage, firearms and taxidermy projects on the walls that would pass for a recreation of Rudyard Kipling's writing room. It's a strange bar. Mostly pictures of African people not related to Obama. I ordered the steak fajitas which were pretty good. My boyfriend order the pizza which was not good at all. Just visited this place. Almost passed it up when the guy at the door tried to sell us on the 3 drink special. Hey dude, I just want a beer. Well, we went in anyways, and the place is African themed, with lots of old B&W photos from the Dark Continent, and a British Empire sort of feel. Well, the musician singing and playing guitar was superb. He played a rendition of Bob Marley's Redemption Song that seriously made me tear up. So awesome. Hey, to the other patrons -- apologies for being the slightly noisy, over zealous Americans in the bar. And thanks for being patient with us. Wanted to like it because of the name. British Africa colonial decoration. American and British food menu. Spanish food (paella and sangria) as the special. Motown music while someone was warming up through the PA system on piano. I went with the special, which is my regular practice at a new place (It's the recommendation of the house, right?). Food is good but takes FOREVER to get. It seems the wait staff was a bit confused as to why people were there and why they were there. Great full English Breakfast and a range of English beers including Heineken and Guiness. The menu also offers American as well as British meals. A little more pricey than other local bars and restaurants but we'll worth a visit. read more

We had lunch here the other day. Burgers were very salty and cheese sticks looked like they were from the freezer aisle. Overpriced for mediocre food. Also, my history teacher friends and I were a little uncomfortable with the decor. It looked like it celebrated the imperialist age. South African stuff everywhere. We couldn't tell if it was a racist place with an ironic name or if it was just ignorant to the terror of imperialism. I actually thought about asking the owner but wimped out at the end. Interesting late-night bar that I stumbled upon after getting to the Plaza de Catalayuna on a late night layover in Barcelona. There were two people outside (employees of the restaurant) who were soliciting people to come in. Besides the live music, which was actually quite good, the food and drinks were mediocre and somewhat high price from what I can recall. There are much better late-night places to be had from the area, and caddy corner from this bar there is an excellent late-night tapas place that is recommended by many locals. read more
