Berner is really a disgrace to mental health. My father used to be his client for several years, and then his insurance switched and he could no longer see him. He had a total mental crises from not finding someone to help him in time that would prescribe the same meds. I finally got the insurance to approve to see berner since my dad only trusted him. Berner would not be bothered to fill out the transfer pages confirming he would take him. So he basically abandoned a past client who was suicidal because of this, after we went through all the hoops to try to make this possible. I personally think he is an amazing Dr and listened to what I was experiencing and explained to me what I was probably experiencing treated me accordingly, he makes sure on my follow up appointments how my medications are working and is just a great physician overall. On December 17th 2019 I had a 6 month follow up appointment with Dr Berner. I had just arrived from being out of the country for nearly a month while I built a home with habitat for humanity in Cambodia. The day of my appointment, I was walking on my farm with my dog that suddenly had a heart attack and died right in front of me. She had a known heart condition that was being monitored, but it was an absolute shock that she collapsed and died in my arms. She was my whole life and was absolutely devastated. I don't have a lot of family and at the time lived alone with my dogs. They are my family. I forgot to call the day of the appointment but remember calling a couple days later to apologize. I remember that I received one invoice for the no show fee. I played phone tag with Lynne until I was finally able to get a hold of her. I explained the situation that normally I wouldn't have ever missed an appointment but I had a family emergency. She said I needed to write a letter and mail it to her and then she would see if that fee would be waived. So I typed up a letter, printed it, signed it and went to the post office the next day to buy stamps and mailed the letter off. I never heard back and assumed that everything was okay. In the meantime, I found out I was pregnant and going to be a single mom. I had moved to Seattle and sold my farm as soon as it was finished being fixed up (being pregnant- it wasn't safe for me to be living in a construction zone). Although, my mail was suppose to forwarded I never had any other invoice or anything from your practice. I guess this was sent to collections and my 810 credit score dropped to a 680 because of this. I didn't realize this happened until yesterday as I'm applying for a mortgage. I'm really at a loss here and I'm getting a higher interest rate on my loan because of this. I need this to be resolved ASAP so I can hopefully get a better rate and not be throwing literally thousands of dollars out the window because I couldn't make a meeting because I was crying so hard I couldn't breathe after seeing my 10 year old beloved dog take her last breathe in my arms. I also don't understand how a collections agency can do this to my credit without ever contacting me? Dr. Berner's office has my number- why didn't anyone call me before this happened? I'm just such at a loss with all this and here I am with my 9.5 month old trying to secure housing for us and honestly don't know if I can afford to pay a higher interest rate. You have no idea the level of stress this has put me under. What a heartless practice. read more

I used to work in child mental health. I felt like Dr. Berner was the Wild West. A teenager who was given a bottle of esketamine nasal spray to use at home (FDA regulations state that medical supervision is required for two hours after a dose. This teen was using it like candy.) A kid who was depressed, got side effects on two antidepressants, was diagnosed bipolar and given a mood stabilizer with really severe side effects. (The kid wasn't bipolar. He just had some side effects. He did great on a different antidepressant.) I met with many families who had negative experiences. He is kind of infamous in the area among child mental health workers. If they're seeing Dr. Berner, they're going to come in on something weird. read more

NO ONE IN THAT OFFICE IS WEARING MASKS!! I was told it was required to meet in person as a first time patient, felt weird about it but I went anyways. No one in there wore masks and they weren't required. If I knew that sooner I never would have come. Extremely unprofessional and unsafe and shows what kind of medical professional he is. Not LGBTQ+ friendly... Doesn't care to get to know you, talks over you, seems to think you don't know what you're talking about... Felt very uncomfortable the whole time. I was unable to communicate all my feelings, and he severely underestimated them and said I was not as sick as some of the people he sees... Sorry if you can't visibly see how much I struggle, and even if I don't struggle as hard as some doesn't mean I am not struggling. Said he couldn't help me. Waste of time and money. I have been seeing Doctor Berner for five years. After cycling through psychiatrist after psychiatrist for nearly 20 years, I finally found a doctor whom I feel genuinely understands my needs. Doctors are so prone to giving you guilt trips when you need certain medications; in the past I've felt guilty asking for more xanax, etc. Berner is certain my needs are met and then some, for emergencies. He is not a therapist, so don't expect him to give advice on problems. He will care that you're having them, but he is there to fix the chemistry, and that's what mental illness needs. When I first started seeing him, I did not have insurance so we exhausted the cheapest medications possible. He's not one to be purchased by drug companies, and will load you up with free samples when money is tight. Truly the best, I've since recommended him to family and friends and not one has complained. As another reviewer said, his style is unorthodox, but that dark sense of humor goes miles with me! Dr. Berner and staff are great! I'm not surprised at some of the reviews here. Psychiatry and counseling are not the same thing but I've found Dr. Berner to be sufficient in engaging my intellectual curiosity about what WE currently know about the brain (I like that psychiatry is a WE game). Has it been an easy journey? No. Have I been frustrated, certainly. This man is intellectually oriented so the warm and fuzzies (be grateful you can even experience that but I digress). He's a man, knows his stuff, and can help chronics which I identify as but like any good patient I know a few things about my condition(s) (Dr. B always cements what I don't on the chalkboard) After a few years I'm grateful! Personally, read up on some stuff. It makes for pleasant banter anyway. We need more intellectuals in this field, badly. This isn't a feel good immediately gig for a chronic like me. It's been a joy writing my 2 pennies here! If you are cocky and act like a 5 year old unwilling to accept help, don't see this man. Seriously why the bad reviews? Scared the hell out of me when I consulted him for post partum depression. He may be a good doc but it didn't work out for me.

At first when I started seeing Dr. Berner I really thought he was an amazing dr. He was the one who diagnosed me and found meds that really started helping me. However, as the years have gone on, he has started over booking patients and is never on time. I have just recently come to the conclusion that he is one of those pill popper drs. Instead of actually listening to you throughly, he rushes you out the door with a script for another med to try. Yesterday was my last straw with him. Waited 25 mins past my appt time to meet with him for LITERALLY 2 mins for him to tell me he is so busy that he doesn't have the time to listen to me and to schedule another appt when he has availability which is about a month out. Per the front desk's instructions, I wrote him a note to leave for him to read about how upset I was and I never heard a word back from him. I'd HIGHLY recommend you do your research on drs before settling for this one!! read more

Dr. Berner is not professional at all. I took my son to see him. He proceeded to tell me that "you know everyone that works at Microsoft is on the spectrum" and suggested that because my spouse works at Microsoft, that maybe my child is on the spectrum. Well, neither my spouse or child is on the spectrum. Then he said that when my son is "having drama and says he wants to die, that I should just ignore him". I am a medical professional and found him to be very unprofessional. I would not recommend him to anyone. read more

I have never heard someone talk more about themselves, their accomplishments, and other tangents than Jon Berner which I thought was really inappropriate especially during an appointment that is supposed to be about MY concerns with anxiety and my mental health. He mansplained what anxiety was to me and told me I shouldn't worry too much because when he looks at me he doesn't see me becoming schizophrenic 5 years down the line...thank you Jon for implanting the idea of schizophrenia into my already anxious brain and telling me this when I came in to talk about anxiety not other psychological disorders. It just seems like he was trying to diagnose me with a billion other disorders than just talk to me about anxiety. I cannot see anyone who has a psychological disorder that is even slightly more serious than my issue feeling safe, comforted, or helped by Berner. Also, none of the employees of the practice were wearing masks at any point during my visit which was extremely unsettling considering were in a pandemic and COVID cases are on a rise. Overall, I was very uncomfortable and left the appointment feeling frustrated. I simply would not recommend that anyone go see Berner. read more

My son was having severe anxiety problems when he was in his teens. We consulted with Dr. Berner to see if these problems could be alleviated. After only an hour of talking with both of us, he determined that my son was bi-polar and would be on medication for the rest of his life, and that my brother, who had detached from my parents and family, was schizophrenic. He had only just met my son and had never met my brother. Understandably, my son was extremely upset by Dr. Berner's instant diagnosis, and I was appalled by his unprofessionalism in giving it. Needless to say, we found another doctor who worked with my son and the problem was alleviated fairly quickly and without medication. This happened over 10 years ago, so hopefully Dr. Berner was having a bad day and this type of thing is not his normal practice method. read more
