The Saxophone Duets from lessons makes you feel like a pro!! Seriously! Since I am elated with playing instruments, I started taking Piano lessons with Mason. Guess where?? Yes!! VMS!! His teaching methodology for piano is outstanding as well. Reading the treble and bass clefs for piano at first seemed difficult. But once you concentrate it's achievable. He explained and demonstrated the proper posture for playing piano. In other words, No T-Rex style playing. Moreover, the VMS selection on instruments made me think of playing Saxophone and Piano. (or Violin)…read more Not that I'm getting plastered at 2pm on a Saturday, but if you like good beer or red wine, you won't have to worry about getting a bad case of the nerves, that's for sure. For the last class there's some seriously good bourbon. It's a good thing it's not available the whole time or I'd be slurring my chords worse than I do now. But it's a zero pressure class. Though I do feel bad when I disappoint Pete and Adam. I have a healthy dose of guilt for not practicing as much as I should. I may be completely projecting Pete's sad puppy dog eyes though. Speaking of puppy! Pete and Ginger will sometimes bring in their adorable lab/motivational dog. Not distracting in the least. Nope. I'm a rock of self-control. "PUPPY!!!!!" This is my second semester (session??? It's not a credited course) and I'm so happy I could do the two. The Beginner's class learned "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" by Hank Williams. Kismet. Because who went to a screening of "I Saw The Light" with Tom Hiddleston's charming self... ME! If I were a wee bit crazier, I would have brought my guitar for Hiddleston to sign. As it was, it was a close thing. In the Intermediate group, we're learning "Ring of Fire". How did they know? How could they have possibly known how much I love this song? Once I get the chord changes down, there's no way to stop me from singing along. No. Way. Everyone's been warned. And I'm SO wearing my Johnny Cash tee to the recital. The recitals are held at Littlefield ( https://www.yelp.com/biz/littlefield-brooklyn ). We packed the joint. I didn't expect that many people. And it wasn't like when their friend/child/SO finished their set, people bounced. That would be rude. They stayed to watch me completely butcher the whole second half of my piece. Thank God for the bar. Ginger told us that they started giving the student's free pizza because they would be in such a daze afterwards, most of them were leaving their instruments behind. I guess we needed the de-stress carbs. You can rent/buy/bring your own instruments. The purchase price is competitive with Amazon because you are getting a soft case as well. I bought mine and I've already covered my case in patches. My flair obsession has reached ridiculous heights. These classes are an investment in my becoming a well rounded human being, and I'm now 7 chords closer to enlightenment. Thanks Ginger, Pete and Adam!

I'm getting better at sight reading too! It's turned from a very casual hobby into something I'm starting to invest more time and effort in. The teachers are really fun and extremely encouraging. I don't know how they do it, get us to progress even through we're all busy and don't practice nearly enough! The recitals are the best too. The environment is so supportive at all levels. I look back at that first recital and can't believe how far I've come. I've also made great friends! Highly recommend!!

Edmund is a fantastic teacher!! I would recommend him to anyone who is interested in taking piano…read more(or voice/guitar/violin) lessons. I started taking piano lessons with him shortly after I turned six years old (back in 2002) and continued until I was 18 (and left for college), so I'd like to think that I can speak honestly about how amazing Edmund is as a music teacher. He was extremely patient with and encouraging to me during lessons, even when I was facing a challenging piece that I wasn't sure I'd be able to play (and I was eventually able to play this under his instruction and many, many hours of practice). I had not always loved playing the piano (parents were very adamant that I learn--it was not something I had initially wanted to do), but I grew to love it over the years of lessons I had here. Looking back, I want to thank Edmund for being so, so, so patient with me. There were so many reasons for why he could have gotten frustrated with me during lessons (e.g., occasionally came in without practicing enough, really did not enjoy playing Mozart pieces when I was younger, etc.), but he was ALWAYS calm and understanding. The best part about having Edmund as your music teacher is that he works with you. As I said before, I hated playing Mozart when I was younger for some reason or another. Many other piano teachers would force you to do that anyway because Mozart's pieces are so iconic, but Edmund gave me different options and allowed me to play other composers' works, which made me so much happier and excited to play the piano. He always keeps in mind what the student wants and needs, and this is something that is so important when choosing a music instructor. I have seen Edmund work with all types of students throughout the years (different instruments, all sorts of ages, etc.), and he works well with everyone. He works with his students at each student's pace but also pushes them just enough so that they grow without feeling overwhelmed. SUMMARY - I highly recommend Music and Method. Edmund is an amazing and patient professional music instructor who works well with his students. He played such a huge role in my life while growing up and helped me find my love for playing the piano. Thanks, Edmund!!!
